Work Text:
After the battle at Kamino Ward, everyone of U.A.'s students had moved into the U.A. dormitories. If anyone had asked Class-1A what they thought of the change, every member would have agreed it had been one of the best decisions the school had made.
Living together meant spending more time together, and naturally, pack bonds had begun to form. It felt like living with one enormous, chaotic family.
Sure, putting so many teenage alphas under one roof had caused its fair share of territorial squabbles at first, but hero course students were nothing if not adaptable. Every problem eventually found a solution. To bond as a new pack, movie nights had quickly become everyone's favorite tradition. Each Friday after intense training, the whole class would share dinner that everyone chipped in to make and watch a movie or two to enjoy a night where they didn't have curfew. Some of the beta girls had even started building communal nests for them to huddle together while they watched.
There were other interesting changes too. All of their teachers, including All Might, had moved into apartments on school grounds. It meant the students saw them far more often than they ever had before, and if there was one thing hero students excelled at besides training, it was being interested fans of pro heroes.
Tonight was one of their Friday movie nights.
Most of Class 1-A had gathered in the common room as an action movie played. A handful of students had already turned in for the night after special move training had thoroughly exhausted them, while the rest sprawled across couches or sank into an elaborate fortress of pillows and blankets covering the floor, including All Might and Mr. Aizawa who would sometimes join them. As it became later and later, Mr. Aizawa had left at some point, stating he needed to start patrols for the night. So the room gradually settled into comfortable silence, broken only by the movie and the occasional rustle of popcorn bags.
That was when Jirou heard it.
A soft, steady rumble.
At first she assumed it was part of the soundtrack. Lying on the floor so close to the television, that would have made the most sense.
Except, it wasn't coming from in front of her, it was coming from behind.
She slowly glanced over her shoulder toward the couches.
"...Oooh."
The sight waiting for her nearly made her giggle aloud.
All Might must have drifted off sometime during the slower stretch of the film. The alpha was reclined comfortably against the couch, one arm lazily draped over the backrest. Curled securely under his arm and against his side was Midoriya, equally asleep, his head pillowed against the expanse of the alpha's chest.
The source of the sound became immediately obvious.
A gentle, resonant purr vibrated through All Might's chest, quiet enough that most people in the room would never have noticed.
Jirou, obviously, did.
The sound tugged unexpectedly at an old memory. She couldn't help recalling evenings at home when her own father would purr while the family watched movies together. Alpha purring wasn't unheard of per-say, but it was uncommon enough to turn heads. Most alphas simply didn't express comfort that way, and there were many more who would deliberately avoid doing so in public. Her father had never cared much for tradition and had always been openly affectionate with his family.
But All Might?
She never would have expected it.
The alpha always seemed so reserved from the short time she had gotten to know him as Mr. Yagi instead of the Symbol of Peace. Sometimes, his attitude even bordered on downright mysterious, she felt.
Her gaze drifted down to the sleeping beta tucked securely against his side.
She then recalled that rumor that had made the rounds a while back.
The strange closeness between All Might and Midoriya. The theory that Midoriya was secretly All Might's son.
Initially, Jirou had always dismissed Todoroki's theory as ridiculous.
Now... well, maybe Todoroki hadn't been completely reaching.
She nudged Mina, who was laying beside her, with her elbow.
"Hm?" Mina hummed, eyes still fixed on the television.
Jirou inclined her head toward the couch behind them. "Listen."
Mina blinked in confusion, trying and failing to hear what her friend was hearing, before twisting around.
The instant she spotted the sleeping pair, her entire body froze.
Both hands flew over her mouth. She immediately buried her face into the nearest pillow to smother an explosive squeal, her legs kicking wildly behind her.
When she resurfaced, she looked at Jirou, eyes sparkling.
"Oh my gosh," she whisper-yelled. "Is All Might purring?!"
Jirou grinned. "Yep."
Mina couldn't help but glance back again, completely enthralled by the scene.
"You know," Jirou whispered, amusement creeping into her voice, "this is making Todoroki's secret father theory a lot harder to laugh off."
"Totally!" Mina hissed back. "My moms only purr like that when they're with me or each other."
Jirou nodded. "My dad's the same way. He's never cared about acting like a 'proper' alpha." A faint smile tugged at her lips. "I just...never imagined All Might would be the affectionate type."
Her gaze lingered on the sleeping hero, whose purr never once faltered as Midoriya smiled in his sleep and unconsciously snuggled a little closer.
A soft laugh escaped her.
"Seeing him like this...it's kind of adorable."
The image of All Might asleep with Midoriya tucked against his side proved impossible for Mina and Jirou to forget.
Neither of them wanted to spread gossip, not really, but they were curious!
A few days later, the opportunity finally presented itself. Study groups had become almost mandatory leading up to exams, with different groups claiming tables throughout the school library. Mina had somehow convinced Jirou to join Todoroki instead of ditching it all together. He was seated alone with his textbook already open, looking every bit as composed as ever.
He glanced up as they approached. "Hello."
"Hey, Todoroki!" Mina chirped, dropping into the chair across from him, not bothering to ask.
Jirou set her notebook beside his. "Mind if we study here?"
"I don't mind."
For nearly twenty minutes, Mina managed to stay focused for almost five consecutive pages before the question was too much to hold in.
"So..." She tapped the end of her pencil against the table. "About your conspiracy."
Todoroki looked up.
"You know," Mina continued, "the one about Midoriya secretly being All Might's kid."
"I remember."
"You asked him about it during the Sports Festival, didn't you?"
"I did."
"And?"
"He said they aren't related."
Mina deflated with an exaggerated sigh. So the theory was already debunked...
"He said his father works in America and is rarely home," Todoroki added, returning his attention to his textbook.
Mina rested her chin in one hand, considering that.
"Well..." she drawled. "Actually, that doesn't necessarily disprove anything."
Jirou gave her a puzzled look. "It doesn't?"
Mina shrugged.
"I mean, okay, maybe All Might isn't his biological dad. But packs are basically family, right? Plenty of pups grow up with pack alphas who aren't related to them!"
Todoroki paused at that, looking like he had just gotten a light-bulb. "...That's true."
His gaze shifted toward the two girls suspiciously.
"What prompted this line of questioning?"
Mina immediately nudged Jirou with a grin. "You tell him."
Jirou rolled her eyes. "The other night during movie night, Midoriya and All Might both fell asleep on the couch."
"They were cuddling-," Mina supplied helpfully.
"-and All Might was purring."
It was exceedingly rare for Todoroki's expression to deviate from its usual neutrality, so the lift of his eyebrows at Jirou's revelation was the clearest sign that he'd been genuinely surprised. "...He purred?"
"Full-on alpha purring!" Mina confirmed emphatically, resisting the urge to start squealing again at the cuteness of it all.
Jirou nodded, just as enthusiastic. "I only caught it at first because of my quirk."
Todoroki hummed at that, looking more interested than they had ever seen him look. Mina and Jirou exchanged smirks. Looks like they might've just found a new gossip partner.
At that exact moment, somewhere across the library, Midoriya suddenly sneezed.
Then sneezed again.
The green-haired beta groaned while Iida promptly handed him a tissue. Beside them, Uraraka laughed.
"Man," she teased, "there must be some serious gossip going around about you, Deku!"
Across the library, Todoroki, Mina, and Jirou just looked at each other knowingly.
