Charles climbs up the stairs again, dismissing Moira's concerned looks towards him. Above the deck, Charles finally sees the reason his heart is burning so feverishly:
There is a man moving the chains to wrap around Shaw's boat. They don't move in a natural way; the chains serpentine the water graciously, indicating a brute elegance from the man wielding them. They slash the boat from the inside, almost like gutting it. Charles stands, breathless, as it destroys everything in its path with so much determination. It's beautiful. Charles can think of nothing else until he feels the man’s anger rising, more and more, as he tries to pull the submarine Shaw is in with him.
