Summary
The rules, as far as Eddie was concerned, had never actually been agreed on. They'd just accumulated, the way rules do when two people spend enough time trying to embarrass each other in public.
Rule one: it had to be a real restaurant, not fast food. Nellie's on Fig didn't count because Nellie's didn't have servers, it had a guy who yelled your number.
Rule two: no repeating a venue within six weeks, because the staff needed time to forget.
Rule three, added after the incident at the place on Sunset, was that Eddie was not allowed to cry. Buck could cry. Buck was, annoyingly, an incredible crier, could get his eyes wet on command like some kind of Broadway understudy, and it worked every time. Eddie's face just did something that looked like he was passing a kidney stone, and one waitress had asked if he needed her to call someone.
