Summary
Ilya’s mother didn’t die from an overdose. When he was twelve years old, Ilya found Irina in a pool of her own blood. It’s years later, but the image has haunted him, followed him, until the pressure of playing at a hockey tournament in the US sends him into a deep episode that lands him at The Royal mental hospital.
Shane Hollander, who's been struggling with OCD tendencies for years and lives in fear of his looming rookie season is constantly trying to escape his own spirals. The MLH is just as unsupportive of ‘sissy mental health issues’ as they are of queer players, and though his parents don’t know about the second part, Shane is hoping to find ways to handle those compulsive tendencies too.
What he doesn’t expect is to meet Ilya; tall, dark, handsome and a fellow professional hockey player. Apparently they were soulmates in the having-an-existential-life-crisis-at-the-same-moment kind of way. But he can’t shake just how irksomely fake and cheerful he acts, like he's always in control. And he also can’t quite put his finger on why he’s here, exactly, or in his group sessions.
