Gotham wind on the top of a roof was never nice, unless you were a psycho who liked the biting, unforgiving, cold. Jason ‘Red Hood’ Todd, stood atop some roof of a crumbling apartment building, leaning against the rusted railing, cigarette dangling between his fingers. The light footsteps of Roxy ‘Siren’ Kasidy approached from behind, she reached Jason and grabbed the rail, swung her legs over it, and sat, one leg crossed over the other. The two existed beside each other in oddly comforting silence. Roxy checked over her nails, then sighed as Jason blew out a cloud of smoke,
“Must you do that around me?”
“You came to me,” Jason responded, but he still dropped the cigarette off the roof before she did it herself, Roxy watched it fall before pulling out a knife. She twirled it around in her hand then started filing her nails, with the knife.
“Penguin’s still trying to find who robbed him y’know,” Roxy didn’t look up from her nails,
“Oh I know. …you good?” Jason asked as Roxy hissed putting her thumb in her mouth,
“Yeah, fine, just nicked my finger,”
“Idiot,” the rooftop fell silent aside from the howling wind, that was still violently whipping the blonde’s hair, the only difference? Jason looked cool and could still see, Roxy could only see her blonde hair in her face, eyes and mouth. She eventually gave up and pulled her hair into a basic plait.
“Pretty scary how fast you can do your hair, one second it’s in your face and the next you’re sitting there looking magical, I mean-” Jason cleared his throat trying (and failing) to brush it off, “shit wrong word, whatever,”
Roxy stared at him eyebrow raised, “the hell does that mean?”
“Nothing,” Jason grabbed and lit another cigarette and just because he could, blew it in Roxy’s direction, she coughed waving her hand in front of her face,
“Ah- ugh- pfft asshole-” she coughed once more and reached over to smack the cigarette from Jason’s hand, she failed, but did succeed in nearly falling off the railing. Roxy rolled her eyes and moved back to her spot, silence crept through the air around them once more, it was nice. But Roxy had to shatter it.
“What did you want to be when you were small?” she asked staring into the horizon
“Hm?” Jason lifted his eyes lowering the cigarette from his lips,
“No one wants to become something like us, I’m sure of that.” Roxy uncrossed her legs to change which leg was on top. Jason didn’t answer for a few seconds, then answered avoiding eye contact,
“I wanted to be a hero.”
“A hero?” Roxy asked voice lost of all mockery,
“Yes,” Jason continued standing up straight, “they help people, heroes.” Silence fell for the third time, as the two just stared into the sky,
“More like die young-”
“Fuck you,” Jason’s hand found Roxy’s back and pushed her from the railing of a forty feet drop, she laughed grabbing onto a rusted balcony bar with her bare hands before she hit the ground.
“Hate you Kasidy!”
“Love ya too Hood!” she let go of the railing, flipped and landed with a bow. Roxy blew him a kiss -earning a very displeased eye roll- and disappeared down the path.
