Chapter Text
Not a lot of people know about the power that the word holds.
The language, our form of communication. A single word can move worlds, seas and oceans. We often fail to understand that, if we are trees, the language is what binds us to our roots. It is what connects us to others, a bridge between minds.
“I don’t want you to leave.”
“I’m graduating, not leaving the country.”
“It hurts the same.”
“You have Robin and Wymack. Even Bee. And you have a phone for something. Learn to use it.”
“Will you call me?”
“Don’t ask stupid questions.”
Words move us just as the full moon stirs the tides. The words that are spoken and, even more, the ones left in the inkpot, stuck in our throats without even being voiced.
“Andrew, I don’t understand. Why are you ignoring me?"
“I don’t want to talk to you.”
“You never want to talk with me! Andrew, for God’s sake. Could you explain to me what I did? What happened?”
“I can’t.”
Some of them get stuck in your chest, burying themselves in the hollow between heart and soul. They dig in and turn into thorns, accumulating and breaking you.
“So this is a goodbye? This is your fucking farewell?”
“Get out of my house.”
“You said it was our house. You said it would be when I graduated.”
Little by little, they consume you from inside.
“Andrew.”
“No.”
Until they break you apart.
“Breaking news! Boston’s new signing, number 10, has been injured in the latest match against the New York Wolves! The rising star is at the nearest hospital, but experts are pointing to a major tragedy. The impact was so severe that the leg suffered-”
And that is the biggest problem. When they break you, it is very difficult to get back to the surface.
“Aaron, you have seen it. Tell me.”
“Andrew, you two broke up a year ago. It’s not your problem anymore.”
“I’m not going to say it again.”
“Look, the cameras didn’t get a clear shot. I couldn’t say for sure-”
“Aaron.”
“No, Andrew. I don’t think he will be able to run again.”
And when you can’t return to the surface…
“Lord Moriyama?”
“I was expecting your call. There’s a car waiting for you.”
“See you soon.”
You end up drowning.
