In the beginning there was Nothing.
Nothing, for such a long time. Longer than anyone can even count, think, or even imagine.
This Nothing was not wrong. It was not anything bad. It just wasn’t anything at all. The universe and its atoms didn’t know what it didn’t have, because it just was Nothing.
Then one day, there was Something.
It happened fast. In about a trillion times faster than a trillionth of a second. It doubled in size, and doubled in size, and doubled in size.
It happened hard, and fast. The Nothing was suddenly Something. The universe was starting to form.
It was hot. It was big. Some even say it was a Bang.
Bang? Bang.
The Bang scattered atoms everywhere. Atoms that started to drift alone in the universe, until they started to find their place. Their Home. New elements formed, chemical reactions happened, the opaque universe became transparent. Change was visible. The Something was turning into A Thing.
The Thing.
Denser regions started to gravitationally attract each other. Stars formed. And galaxies. And gas clouds. Light. And warmth. And heat.
There was something else though. Something taking up space, among the light and the warmth and the heat. Something that didn’t disappear, despite the light and the warmth and the heat.
Dark Energy. The inevitable. The void. The unknown, that just Is. Everywhere. Surrounding the Something. Surrounding the Thing.
The empty space needs to be filled with something. It’s inevitable.
Embrace the void.
Despite the Dark Energy, the universe continued to expand. Bodies formed, crashed, healed, and found other bodies. Which, just as them, were roaming the universe in search of a place to fit in. In search of a place with the right conditions, where they could thrive, grow, and have the courage to exist.
Systems formed. Likeminded bodies, with the same conditions, the same needs, the same rhythms, stuck together. They were gravitationally pulled towards the same sun. And the same moon.
The sun and the moon.
And then, 16 years later, Dan and Phil told the world that they had been in love ever since that first day.
Since that day when Nothing turned into Everything.
After all this time, you ask?
Yup, the whole time.
