I can tell that we are gonna be friends

Summary:

High school AU where Pomni and Jax accidentally become friends and Jax goes through bad stuff

Chapter 1: Fool on the Hill

Chapter Text

Jax’s life was pretty monotonous. He went to school Monday through Friday, eight hours a day, and afterward he would go home to rot in his room.

But since the last two months had been summer vacation, he basically did nothing but eat, sleep, and stay glued to his phone. Even if he wanted to go out, there would be no point to it, since he didn’t have any friends (or not anymore at least), and to him, going out without friends was even sadder than not going out at all.

That was why he counted down the days until the next school year started, not because he loved school or anything, but because, at least there, he would have a routine.

Jax liked having something to do.

The only bad thing about going back to school was that Jax had already gotten used to falling asleep really late, which resulted in him sleeping only five hours on his first day of school.

Jax preferred arriving early, about 30 minutes beforehand, because he liked everything to be empty. Besides, he felt that arriving late would draw more attention than he wanted. As cliché as it sounded, he liked going unnoticed, and he couldn’t stand having to talk to other people unless it was completely necessary (and sometimes he wasn’t even willing to do it then).

But this time he got up only about 20 minutes before his first class, and because of that, he arrived just on time, not a minute more, not a minute less.
Normally, Jax would choose seats all the way in the back, in the corner, out of everyone’s sight, but this time he had to settle for one in the middle, since all the ones in the back were already taken.

“Great, we’re starting off on the right foot,” Jax thought sarcastically as he settled in.
The hours passed until it was finally time for lunch break.

Jax went to his usual spot, all the way in the back of the school, next to a dumpster. He hated being alone out in the open where everyone could see him, and he especially hated the possibility of suddenly getting hit by a ball.

He didn’t usually eat during lunch, either. Instead, he’d wait until he got home to eat. No matter how hungry he was, he’d rather just sit there and stare at his phone.

But today was going to be different.
