Morning Dental Care

Summary:

A look into the morning routine of the Implant Order's leading members, Devil's Tooth Cookie and Cool Mint Cookie, as they discuss the plans for the day.

Aka: Domestic fluff between platonic partners who share custody of a dog, a dream, and a construction company.

Notes:

I love these two. I honestly didn't expect to enjoy them so much, but Cool Mint and Devil's Tooth dynamic is so cute. Just two bad guys who trust each other and balance each others qualities. I want more of them on my table by the end of the month please!

Work Text:

“Where did we put the medication?”

Cool Mint spat out some foam, looking at Devil’s Tooth’s back through the mirror as she pulled the tooth brush out of her mouth. “Whuzzat?”

“My medication.” The taller cookie, who even out of his armor towered a whole head above her, grumbled at her. “I keep it in the bottom cabinet, and now it’s not there.”

“Oh, that. I had to shuffle some stuff around, pretty sure it’s in the one next to it.” She went back to her brushing routine. That brilliant smile of hers didn’t just exist naturally, like her good looks, they needed thorough care.

Sure enough, Devil’s Tooth found his pills in the other cabinet. It was annoying to have his stuff moved around without his knowledge, but this wasn’t anything worth making a fuss about.

“Sho,” Cool Mint said, pausing to gargle some water and spitting it into the basin (and maybe missing a little and hitting the top of the faucet instead, whoops) before she continued, “what’s the itinerary for today? I’m itchin’ for some mining work.”

Devil’s Tooth swallowed his cocktail of pills, the daily dose needed to not feel like he was going to crumble apart just from a stray wind brushing against his face. “The usual. Budget balancing, surveying some plots of land, preparing for the company break-”

“Oh yeah! We still going to Sweet Sugarland?” The miner perked up instantly. “I already ordered a bunch of trenchcoats so the mint skulls are tall enough to ride the rides. Got 'em color-coded to our order, too!”

He shook his head. “No, the trip has been cancelled.”

She almost choked on her second rinse, spitting it out right into the mirror. “What?! Why?!”

“Rumor has it the calamity of death kidnapped and brainwashed the owner of the amusement park months ago. The park has been shut down since.”

“Shit. And right when they got the new coaster too.” She frowned. There goes her plans for conquering the whack-a-mole games. She’d been training to break that record for a while now.

Devil’s Tooth shook his head. He, too, had been looking forward to that trip. A leisurely trip down the Tunnel of Love with some paperwork by his side to do while relaxing, down the drain due to forces beyond their control.

Cool Mint scratched her backside. “Hmmm. What about a movie night? There’s probably something good going on right now. Like that movie about the rooms? The ones in the, uuuuh, the front? Rooms in the Front, ‘s that the name?”

“It left theaters three months ago.” Devil’s Tooth pointed out. “I suppose I’ll look into it though. ”

He stood behind her with a razor and shaving cream can in hand. “Are you done?”

“Gimme a sec,” she raised a finger while her other hand reached out to grab the mouth wash. Final step of the process, a minty swirl to live up to her ingredient. “What else we gotta do?”

“The usual. Although you do need to take Rotty to the veterinarian for her checkup.”

She rinsed and spat (and god damnit she hit the faucet again), pausing for a moment before realizing what he’d just said. “Whu? Wait, I thought her appointment was next week?”

“No, it’s today. Next week is her trip to the dentist.”

The two switched places. Devil’s Tooth applied cream to his face in order to shave off the stubble that always rubbed against his face mask in the most unpleasant of ways, while Cool Mint went to lean against the other cabinet. “Damn. Why’s it gotta be me, though? Rotty only likes it when you’re the one taking her to the doc. She gets real bitey with me when it’s my turn.”

“Because you are a responsible pet owner who needs to pull her weight as well. Also, one of us has to fight that lawsuit from the Choco Drop Kingdom.” He paused mid-shave to quirk a brow at the miner with a devious smile. “You want to trade?”

She raised her arms in surrender. “Hell no. Trying to learn all that legal mumbo jumbo ‘ll make my brain pop. I’m taking the dog.”

“Good.”

Cool Mint sighed, cracked her back, then went to open the door, already anticipating the horned tooth pup waiting just outside it to start scratching at her leg for walkies. “Alright, alright, calm down ya little mutt. You’re gonna get your walkies once I get dressed.”

Rotty licked her face, oblivious to her fate.

For today, Devil’s Tooth decided to take the opportunity to change that. “Cool Mint will be taking you to the vet. I’m sure that won’t be a problem?”

The tooth creature paused, as if her mind only used to understanding concepts like “fetch” and “protect the snack storage” was grinding to understand this strange yet familiar concept. When it clicked, the reaction was instant, Rotty yipping in panic and wriggling out of Cool Mint’s arms to hide from her horrible fate, to her other owner’s annoyance.

“What the- witches damnit, what the hell was that for?!”

Devil’s Tooth smiled. “That was for moving my medication without my permission.”

The miner made some angry noises, before deciding to drop it. He was kinda right in that regard, so she simply huffed before stomping after Rotty, shouting for her to get her butt out of hiding and face her vet trip like a grown dog.
