Work Text:
"IT'S MY BIRTHDAY! ARE YOU MY PRESENT?" A drunk, slurred voice yelled into Felix's ear as Kyle stared, hands stuffed in his jacket pockets.
His scuffed sneakers turned on the sidewalk, forcefully ambling to where Felix was trying to politely push the plush arm off his shoulder. His right eye was shut in a pained wince, leaning his head away from the warm breath, trying not to make a situation out of the awkward interaction.
A fake laugh escaped Kyle's mouth, grabbing hold of and lifting the arm of the drunk girl off Felix's shoulders. He ruffled the neatly styled dark curls, teasing, "Oi, Romeo, why don't you gift those powers to somebody a little more desperate?" Secretly, he was wishing he was confident enough to pull a pick-up line on the vet, but he really wasn't.
Shadows engulfed the girl as she stumbled home, leaving Kyle with one hand dropping away from Felix's scalp and the other still in his pocket. "Come on, mate, let's get into the club." He gripped Felix's upper arm and tugged him towards the door a few more buildings down, watching other man's fingernails dig into his palm.
Just a habit, right? Kyle blinked away the words in his head telling him to move his hand lower, to gently pry Felix's nails away from his palm and kiss every mark left behind. He wanted to go find that girl with the lidded eyes and flare jeans, and tell her to fuck away from his boyfriend.
But Felix wasn't his boyfriend, and he had no desire to be it. Kyle had figured that out a while ago, through months of staring at pictures he had no business of having, lying awake in bed and staring at the ceiling with music blasting in his ears, stealing his mother's makeup that had gathering dust in the cabinet for years and trying to see if he could be a woman, just to make Felix like him. Because Felix was straight. Felix had always been straight and that certainly wasn't going to change over somebody like Kyle Egerton.
Kyle could kiss his own hand and pretend it was Felix all he wanted, but it wasn't going to change anything. He could dream of a beautiful mouth being ruined with his own, of a shining neck and long nights in bed, of fingers fidgeting with a whiskey glass, of somehow-darkemed strands dripping with shower water, of a rich laugh and how it felt with Kyle's fingers running over a chocolate stomach. But it was always going to be very drunk and very sober girls using cheesy pickup lines with a better chance.
Oh lord, how Kyle wanted to never let go of Felix's arm; if there was a deity out there somewhere, then Kyle would fall to his knees and worship for years, if it meant he could have at least this, forever. Just his hand around Felix's bicep, and he would ask for more, but this— this was poetry in it's own, broken way.
Kyle had never been much good at poetry, so he just pried open the door to the club and pulled them inside. He led Felix through the crowd, releasing his hand but moving it to the small of his back instead, keeping the doctor close by as he ordered a pint and a whiskey for the two of them. "You ready to get blasted?" He asked Felix, leaning his elbow on the bar and turning to the beautiful boy next to him.
"Yeah… guess so," Felix took a nervous breath, biting his lip adorably, and Kyle wanted to kiss him again. "I don't know. Clubs aren't totally my thing, but they're fun with you." Kelly green irises flicked nervously away from soft brown ones, and seemed to tense until the drinks were placed in front of Kyle. Felix immediately picked up his whiskey as Kyle dug £10 out of his wallet, trying to wonder what the fuck that line meant.
Was he flirting? Was he just being polite? Kyle couldn't tell. He was crossing his fingers, begging for it to be the former, but he wasn't stupid enough to convince himself of that. Felix was just… he was just Felix, really. He pushed the £10 to the bartender, and watched as the man next to him downed his whiskey in one go, leaving Kyle's jaw agape.
And then Felix moved past Eggy straight to the floor, where shouts and screams filled the air, Kyle just staring as Felix immediately closed his eyes and began to dance.
What the fuck is going on with him tonight? Eggy's thoughts were racing all over the place, banging into wall corners and crashing into couches. Why is Felix being so weird? Did something happen? He's not even drunk…
But this was good, right? Felix was more adventurous tonight, that's what this was. He'd said Eggy had made it better… Maybe Kyle's energy was starting to rub off on him. Yeah, that was it. That was good! Felix was going to have a good time! Kyle hadn't invited him here for nothing (under the guise that Rupert would also be coming… but Rupert had "a work emergency").
With the sounds of Friday I'm In Love bursting open his ears, Kyle made his way through his pint, not wanting to leave it unfinished as he buried himself in his thoughts. He needed a distraction for a moment. He closed his eyes as he let the music run through his veins for a moment, thinking of his little sister listening to a CD of The Cure and singing off-tune and off-beat to this very same song.
The last notes of Robert Smith's voice trailed off and faded into Sex, Drugs, Etc., and Eggy turned his back to the bar to make his way to the floor—
And he was met with his worst nightmare that was somehow his greatest dream.
An undeniably hot man, in a blue polo tee and baggy jeans, was dancing with Felix. Felix's black curls were flying in the air, the deep laughter of the stranger surely filling his ears. Kyle watched as the stranger lifted his arms, pulling up his shirt to reveal a shaped stomach, not necessarily as impressive as Felix but attractive all the same.
So. Felix wasn't straight. He was dancing with a guy. A blond one, with small stubble and neatly combed hair, tanned skin shining in the neon lights of the club as his perfect smile was absolutely catching Felix's eye.
Kyle wanted to kill him immediately. He wanted to stalk up to the blond man, to punch him until blood ran down his lips (lips that Felix definitely wanted to kiss) and his stomach was bruised, until Kyle's own knuckles shone yellow and purple. That was his man. Maybe Felix wasn't straight. Maybe he liked boys after all… bay-sexual, or whatever the fuck Eggy was. His brother had told him the label.
It was unacceptable for him to be with anybody else but Kyle, though. As much as Kyle wanted to get the handsome blond fucker to call the damn police on him, as long as he was away from his man, he held himself back.
Eggy forced himself into a playful amble, pushing his way through the crowd towards the energetic stranger and the embodiment of a male Aphrodite. He laughed, fakely and unnecessarily loud, wrapping a too-tight arm around Felix and pulling him close. "Hey, babe!" He yelled, doing his best to sound drunk as he created a facade (and one he'd dreamt about many times, at that) to scare off the blond asshole. "Having fun out here?"
In a fit of confusion, Felix turned to meet Kyle's eyes, but before he could say anything, a quick "Oh, shit, sorry, bye." reached the pair's ears and the asshole, doing what he should've done in the first place, fucked off and moved away.
"Sorry, Fels. You looked a little uncomfortable there. Was that okay?" Kyle lied, grinning his hugest grin, dropping the 'drunk' facade. (Kyle had stamina, after all these years. He wasn't even tipsy.)
"I- thanks," Eggy couldn't read Felix's face. Or maybe he was too focused on his perfect, beautiful, shapely, pink lips with a wonderful earthly tint… "I'm kind of thirsty. Agua?"
"Sure." Anything to stay with you. "It's on me." Let me treat it like a date. Like it's a fancy restaurant, like you're covering your mouth to laugh, like I order for the two of us and walk you home, kiss you on the doorstep until you really, really do have to go but neither of us want to stop.
"Kyle, no. You paid for the first round. Let me do this." Felix's tongue looked like roses. Kyle used to pluck the petals off roses and lay them over his tongue, feeling how they fit like jigsaw pieces.
"Too bad. On me, I said so. Plus, I invited you. The guest doesn't pay." Kyle raised another £5 he had dug from his pocket in the air, turning Felix back to the bar. "Drink up, then we're going back dancing!"
An hour and a half later, both Eggy and Felix were absolutely sozzled. Their feet moved in an unsteady rhythm, a ringing in their eyes distorting the music, eyesight turning blurry.
Dance With Me blasted out of the speakers, the constant flow of equally energized songs not matching the tiredness creeping in on Kyle. His drunken mind was focused on the man in front of him, who had barely drifted for the entire night… flirtatious behaviour… Felix wasn't straight… no. Felix just had social anxiety. Felix wasn't straight but Felix didn't like Kyle.
Not that it stopped Kyle from staring at the exposed chest in front of him, Felix's shirt unbuttoned low in the heat of the club. He wanted to see more of that chest, to see how it looked with sucked red marks, to brush his collarbones until they got too tired to go any further and just agreed to go to sleep instead.
He wanted to kiss Felix so bad, and he was going to do it, he was going to do it, Kyle motherfucking Egerton was going to stand on his toes to reach the lips of the most handsome man in the world, he was going to taste what he'd dreamed and dreamed and dreamed of tasting, it was going to happen, fuck everythi—
"DO YOU WANT TO GO HOME?" Felix's melodic voice broke through Eggy's thoughts, yelling over the noise of the club. The moment was gone.
"SURE! I'VE GOT MY CAR!" Eggy yelled back, already starting to slow his movements and turn towards the exit. His mind wasn't off the entirety of Felix's body and soul yet— it never would be.
"I DON'T THINK THAT'S A GOOD IDEA! WE'RE BOTH DRUNK AS FUCK!" Felix was the most gorgeous man to ever walk the world.
"OH, SHIT, RIGHT! CAB?" Nobody was ever going to compare to his cheeks, his smile, the way his hips moved, the way he said his r's, his shoulder blades against the back of his shirt.
"MY PLACE IS LIKE, A 20 MINUTE WALK! YOU COULD SLEEP OVER FOR THE NIGHT!" Oh god. No matter how stupid Kyle was, he knew an opportunity when he saw one, even if it didn't end up going anywhere.
"YOU SURE, MATE?" Holyshitholyshitholyshitholyshitholyshitholyshitholyshit. Kyle knew where he was finally going to kiss this ethereal man.
"YES!" Felix and Eggy had fully stopped dancing, beginning to move back towards the door.
"THANK YOU!" Kyle wanted to scream.
"ANYTIME!" He'd never been to Felix's house before. He'd picked him up on the way here, so he knew where, but to be inside was a different story.
The men stumbled out into the winter air, immediately hit by a cold breeze, strongly contrasting with the humidity inside. "Bollocks," Felix said. "I left my coat inside."
"Same, do you want to go get them? I can wait out here." Kyle needed a moment to think.
"Sure, darling." Felix stumbled back into the club.
WHAT THE FUCK!? DID I HEAR THAT RIGHT!? Eggy had been going to (messily, drunkenly) plan out how to make his move and finally bag Felix, but he was too stunned to think anymore.
"Darling…" Kyle turned the word over on his tongue, tasting the vowels and feeling the syllables in his mouth, repeating the way Felix had lingered for just a second on the end. He was going to kiss him. Fuck plans, fuck that blond from earlier, fuck everything, Kyle was going to shove his lips over Felix's the second he was back outside.
The door to the club swung open again, revealing relaxed jeans creasing as Felix stepped back out into the cold, steel blue jacket already on. He handed a wrinkled zip-up hoodie to Kyle, and Kyle took it, but didn't put it on. He just stared at Felix, eyes shiny and wetted lips partially open.
Felix looked down at Eggy in confusion. "Aren't you cold?"
"Yeah." The cold was stinging into Kyle's arms, but he could care less. "You called me darling."
"Shit, did I?" Felix's cheeks tinted reddish-pink, and he opened his mouth to apologize, but before he could, Kyle's lips had covered his.
There was the sound of a jacket hitting the sidewalk, and Eggy lifted his hands to cup Felix's jaw, messily kissing him over and over. Felix's lips gently spread, and Eggy slipped his tongue through to taste the remnants of whiskey, to kiss him deeper.
A small sound escaped Felix, and Kyle laughed into his mouth, pulling away to gaze at the most beautiful boy in all seven continents and five seas. "Yeah."
Felix dropped his mouth open, staring at Kyle and stuttering out syllables he couldn't turn into a proper sentence. "I-I-I- w- do- do th- do that a-a-a-ag-"
Kyle cut him off with another kiss, trying to savour the taste for as long as he could in his hyperfocused-yet-unfocused state. But the cold began to catch up to him, and he shook in the weather— which Felix felt, immediately pulling away to pick Eggy's sweatshirt off the floor, wrapping it around the boy's shoulders.
Arms pushing through the jacket, Kyle didn't hesitate to give Felix another quick kiss before reaching for his hand.
"…Your place?"
Felix tangled their fingers together. "That would be nice."
