Katsuki grumbles as he heads to Eijirou’s bedroom after a long patrol. Usually, he’d be happy to lay next to his boyfriend after a tiring day, but Eijirou texted that he has a surprise for him when he arrives back. Katsuki has been told about these surprises before. Most of the time it’s about some assignment Eijirou procrastinated on that he needs help with. A few times it’s been something really nice like a surprise movie night or picnic date on the balcony. However, given the upcoming essay in English, Katsuki’s guessing it’s the former.
He kicks open the door to find Eijirou sitting on his bed. Eijirou startles at the abrupt entrance and Katsuki is shocked by the shark kigurumi his boyfriend has on. Eijirou recovers quickly and jumps up holding another onesie out, which looks like an orange cat.
“The hell is this?” Katsuki demands an explanation.
“You complain about always being cold in our dorms, so I bought this! I already had one, but I finally brought it from home.” Eijirou smiles, still holding up that stupid, skinned cat.
Katsuki ignores it and stares at Eijirou. His shark kigurumi shows its age. There are quite a few patches where the faded blue fabric wore out, and it’s clearly a bit too small for him now. His eyes flick upwards, and he scowls. The hood does nothing to hide Eijirou’s earnest expression and puppy dog eyes.
Katsuki begrudgingly agrees to wear it. He pulls it on and Eijirou insists on taking a selfie of them. Katsuki insists on flipping the camera off. Eijirou laughs and takes it anyway. They climb into bed, and Katsuki has to admit that it’s pretty nice to wear. It’s soft and comfortable and keeps him warm.
He is still irritated, however, and not just with Eijirou’s loudass snoring. Katsuki refuses to lose the best boyfriend title. If this moron thinks he can give Katsuki something and not receive anything in return, then Katsuki will beat that idiotic notion out of him by buying him an even better present.
Katsuki searches around online. He finds what he’s looking for, reading the product details to ensure the quality, and adds a couple more items that caught his eye to his cart. Afterwards, he shuts his phone off and flips on his side, snuggling up to Eijirou now that his boyfriend can’t see. Katsuki passes out wrapped around him. In the morning, he’ll blame the closeness on Eijirou being a clingy bastard when he’s sleeping.
A few days later his purchases arrive. Katsuki sneaks them up to his room and wraps ribbons around the two smaller items. Then, he texts Eijirou that he has a surprise for him in his room. His boyfriend’s playing some stupid game with Dunce Face and Soy Sauce downstairs, so he knows it’ll take a while for Eijirou to head up. In the meantime, Katsuki reclines on the bed. He only relaxes for a few minutes before jolting up once Eijirou slams his door open and shut. He is panting from running to his bedroom, face flushed.
Katsuki stared at him for a handful of seconds, stunned by the sudden entrance, before yelling, “Why the hell did you rush up here?”
“You never say you have a surprise for me,” Eijirou explains, face still as red as his hair from exertion. “I didn’t know…” He trails off as he stares at his gifts on the bed.
Katsuki notices his drifting gaze and snatches the items off the bed. He chucks them at Eijirou, who scrambles to catch them all, and says, “There’s no way in hell I’d let you beat me, you bastard. Accept them or die.”
Eijirou’s dumb, awed expression soothes Katsuki’s irritation. He doesn’t acknowledge the whisper of “so manly” as Eijirou rubs the soft material of the red shark kigurumi and squishes the fluffy red and orange shark plushies. Katsuki eventually gets fed up with waiting and yells at Eijirou to put it on.
He complies and Katsuki ends up forced into another selfie dressed as a cat. This time they’re both holding sharks, as well, so Katsuki can’t easily flip the phone off. He settles on glaring at the camera as Eijirou laughs and smiles brightly.
Later, when Eijirou is sleeping, he sends himself the selfie and saves it into the album reserved for pictures of his boyfriend. One day he’ll compile all these photos into a giant, physical album as a gift for Eijirou. Katsuki smirks as he lays against his boyfriend. He’d like to see Eijirou try to top that.
