    Charles has made a lot of questionable decisions in his life.

    Not telling Erik that they have a son is probably somewhere near the top of the list.

    For ten years, it works. Danny is Charles’s son, his mother died when he was young, and no one has any reason to question it.

    Then Danny starts looking less like Charles and increasingly like someone Erik sees every time he looks in a mirror.

    The mutation really doesn’t help.

    Or: Charles Xavier successfully hides Erik’s son from him for ten years and then discovers, somewhat belatedly, that genetics do not care about his elaborate cover story.
