Jin: important announcement
Jin: friday night at mine
Jin: we’re playing spin the bottle
Namjoon: No.
Hoseok: ????????
Jimin: YES
Taehyung: YES
Jungkook: hyung are you having some kind of crisis?
Jungkook: omg is this your midlife crisis ahhh
Jin: im not midlife yet! 😠
Yoongi: hang on guys
Yoongi: let him cook
Namjoon: Yoongi, we are in our thirties. Why would we be playing spin the bottle
Yoongi: exactly
Yoongi: imagine explaining a spin the bottle related injury to a doctor at our age
Hoseok: What injury are you envisioning???
Yoongi: a pulled hamstring trying to sit cross-legged
Jin: thank you yoongi for being the only person here with vision
Yoongi: I didn’t say it was a good idea
Yoongi: I said I want to watch it happen
Jimin: Important logistical question. Are we ALL spinning?
Jin: obviously
Jungkook: and whoever it lands on you kiss?
Jin: do I need to explain spin the bottle to you
Jungkook: I KNOW HOW IT WORKS!!!!
Jungkook: I’m asking whether you’ve invented some weird seokjin variation. Also there's only seven of us, we gon run out of combinations very fast
Jin: the weird seokjin variation is there will be orange wine and snacks
Taehyung: Can we have rules where you have to kiss properly
Namjoon: What does “properly” mean?
Jimin: Namjoon :(
Namjoon: I regret asking.
Hoseok: Wait.
Hoseok: WAIT.
Hoseok: Is this all because you said last weekend that you have a crush on one of us???
Jin: unrelated
Yoongi: BAAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Yoongi: I kinda thought u were joking about the crush thing
Jin: shut up
Yoongi: oh this is incredible
Yoongi: you’re engineering a kissing tournament because you’re too scared to ask someone out
Jin: you have no evidence
Yoongi: hyung even for you this is next level 😭😭
Jimin: Shakespeare could never.
Taehyung: Jane Austen if she had access to soju.
Jungkook: Wait, so who does Jin-hyung like?
Jin: none of you if you keep talking
Hoseok: The only person ruled out is JK cos Jin threatened to put him up for adoption yesterday.
Jungkook: sorry what. I’M THIRTY?!
Jin: and yet somehow still my son
Jungkook: YOU CAN’T SON-ZONE ME
Jin: I just did ha
Jimin: devastating
Jungkook: YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME YESTERDAY
Jin: parents are supposed to love their children
Jungkook: OH FUCK YOU
Jin: see this is why the adoption is happening
Jimin: It could be me.
Taehyung: Could be me.
Namjoon: Statistically, it could be any of us.
Yoongi: not me
Jin: interesting
Yoongi: what
Jin: nothing
Yoongi: ??
Jin: see you friday x
Yoongi: what does interesting mean
Jin: 🥰
Yoongi: don’t do that
[Yoongi -- Jin]
Yoongi: seriously tho why don’t you just ask him out
Jin: cowardice
Yoongi: fair
Yoongi: but hosting spin the bottle is significantly more embarrassing
Jin: incorrect
Yoongi: you are inviting six men into your home and announcing “hey friends. tonight I would like us to take turns kissing”
Jin: when you say it like that it sounds weird
Yoongi: I’m describing it literally
Jin: it’ll be fun.
Jin: look me in the eyes and say this plan isn't fun
Yoongi: I cant look u in the eyes via text
Yoongi: but yes it will be extremely funny
Jin: see
Jin: you always appreciate my bits
Yoongi: somebody has to
Jin: this is why you’re my favourite
Yoongi: you say that to all of us
Jin: no I don’t
Yoongi: you said it to jungkook yesterday
Jin: he brought me coffee
Yoongi: ughh corrupt system
Jin: plus maybe I want to know if he’s a good kisser before I confess. Sexual chemistry is very important
Yoongi: oh my god
Yoongi: hyung you’re insane 🫣
Jin: **practical
Yoongi: predatory peacock behaviour
Jin: I’m beautiful enough to pull off schemes like this
Yoongi: annoyingly yes
Jin: :)
Yoongi: anyway who is it
Jin: nice try
Yoongi: taehyung?
Jin: no
Yoongi: jimin
Jin: no
Yoongi: namjoon
Jin: no
Yoongi: hoseok
Jin: no
Yoongi: ur son jungkook?? scandalous!!
Jin: nopeee
Yoongi: okay so either you lied about it being one of us or I've already said their name and u lied in response. ur keeping ur cards close to your chest i see
Jin: Yoongi.
Yoongi: what
Jin: I love you
Yoongi: love you too hyung
Jin: but sometimes I want to open your skull and examine the contents
Yoongi: you wouldn’t understand them
Jin: apparently not
[Jin -- Namjoon]
Jin: I’m cancelling the STB party
Namjoon: What happened?
Jin: we were texting and he guessed every single person except himself
Namjoon: Ah.
Jin: HE RAN OUT OF PEOPLE AND CONCLUDED I WAS LYING
Namjoon: That is impressive.
Jin: I hate him
Namjoon: No, you don’t.
Jin: irrelevant
Namjoon: For what it’s worth, I thought Yoongi knew.
Jin: HOW
Namjoon: You pet his hair whenever you walk past him.
Jin: I touch people
Namjoon: No you dont. You are not a touchy person at all! (And no, wrestling kook and allowing tae to drape himself over u does not count).
Namjoon: Also you fed yoongi a tangerine from your hand on Saturday.
Jin: he was busy
Namjoon: He was sitting on the sofa.
Jin: BUSY SITTING
[Namjoon -- Hoseok]
Namjoon: Yoongi doesn’t know.
Hoseok: KNOW WHAT
Namjoon: About Jin.
Hoseok: WHAT
Hoseok: NO
Hoseok: but ever since jin realised his crush he been so obvious. not nonchalant bone in his body i swear
Namjoon: Apparently Yoongi believes Jin has a crush on someone else.
Hoseok: who
Namjoon: He guessed all five of us.
Hoseok: oh my god
Hoseok: don’t tell him
Namjoon: Hobi.
Hoseok: I WANT TO SEE HOW LONG THIS CAN CONTINUE!
Hoseok: I wanna see jin embarrass himself at spin the bottle
[group chat: 5 grown men committing conspiracy]
Jimin: Emergency meeting.
Taehyung: Jin likes Yoongi.
Jungkook: WHAT
Hoseok: HOW ARE YOU ALSO THIS STUPID
Jungkook: JIN HYUNG CALLS HIM A CORPSE WITH WI-FI
Jimin: That’s flirting for them. trust me teehee
Namjoon: Nobody tells Yoongi.
Namjoon: I’m curious now. wanna see jin's spin the bottle shenanigans
Taehyung: Plot twist: Jin just wants to watch us all kiss!
Jimin: We should all kiss before them. really go for it, so then they dont jib out when it's their turn
Hoseok: Oh.
Hoseok: That’s evil.
Jimin: mwhahahha!!!
Jimin: Thank you hobi
By Friday, Yoongi had decided the entire thing was the funniest event of the year.
He arrived at Jin’s apartment with two bottles of wine and absolutely no intention of kissing anyone. Well, maybe he'd give one of his bros a light peck for the plot but nothing more.
That wasn't prudishness. Yoongi liked kissing. He particularly liked the idea of kissing one specific person currently standing in the kitchen wearing a black shirt with three buttons undone, which was frankly excessive for a man serving supermarket tortilla chips and dip.
Yoongi had been attracted to Jin for years which was private information he very much intended to take to his grave.
Jin was Jin. Beautiful, loud, honest Jin, who collected people like stray cats and told his friends he loved them as casually as he asked them to pass the salt. He'd seen Jin have the most positive influence on his friends over the years. His Jin-hyung was the goodest of good eggs and just basically the best person inside and out. However, Yoongi had made peace long ago with occupying a comfortable, decidedly non-sexual position in Jin's life.
He knew Jin loved him. Jin loved all of them.
So Yoongi had become very good at taking the things that made his stupid heart jump and filing them under Jin being Jin. The arm around his shoulders. The hand in his hair. The late-night phone calls that somehow lasted two hours. Jin saving him the best piece of whatever he was cooking without acknowledging he'd done it.
Which was why this crush business fascinated him. Some lucky bastard in his closest circle of friends had caught Kim Seokjin's attention, and instead of behaving like an adult, Jin had apparently decided to lure him into his apartment and weaponize a bottle.
“You came,” Jin said, taking the jacket Yoongi had shrugged off and hanging it up gently.
Yoongi held up the wine. “I wouldn't miss this humiliation for anything.”
“You're going to participate.” Jin said with a mischievous grin.
“Absolutely not.” Yoongi countered with a fond eye roll.
“You agreed in the chat.”
“I agreed it was funny. A funny bit... you know, in concept.”
Jin stepped closer, looked down at Yoongi smirking, “So you’re scared.”
Yoongi looked up at him and scoffed, “Of kissing you idiots?”
Jin's eyes flicked down and Yoongi could have sworn for a second the older man's gaze hit his mouth.
“Maybe.”
Something warm stirred low in Yoongi's stomach. He ignored it with the expertise of a man who had been ignoring inconvenient reactions to Kim Seokjin for approximately forever.
“You wish,” he said bitingly, trying to shake off the weird wave of nervousness that had randomly just hit him.
Jin smiled and walked into the flat properly. It was a strange smile.
Then Jimin yelled from the living room, “STOP FLIRTING AND COME HERE.”
“We aren't flirting,” Yoongi hollered back.
There was a burst of laughter that made Yoongi suspicious.
As instructed by Jin, they all sat in a circle on the fuzzy living room rug, knees bumping, drinks in hand. The empty wine bottle lay in the middle.
“This is humiliating,” Namjoon whined, laying back on his hand staring at the ceiling.
“You're sitting here voluntarily,” Jin pointed out.
"Let's get this moving then." Jimin snapped “Spin.”
Namjoon spun.
The bottle made three rotations and pointed at Hoseok. There was immediate screaming.
Hoseok covered his face. “Why am I nervous? I've known you for half my life.”
“That makes it worse,” Namjoon said laughing.
“Come here.”
It was supposed to be a joke. Then Hoseok caught Namjoon's jaw and kissed him. Everyone went silent as the pair locked lips.
The kisse dragged on for almost ten seconds, much more than Yoongi had expected. Surely his friends weren't actually hard core committing to this game? He had been expecting light smooches not tongue!
When they separated, Namjoon's ears were scarlet and Hoseok was moving back to his seat, eyes blinking rapidly.
Jimin whispered, “Well, fuck.”
Yoongi started laughing so hard he nearly spilled his drink.
“Oh, this was a fantastic idea.”
Jin, beside him, looked unbearably smug.
“Thank you.”
“You've accidentally created the best night of my life.”
“You haven't even had your turn.”
“Exactly.”
Hoseok pointed accusingly at the bottle. “Someone else go immediately.”
Taehyung went and the bottle landed on Jimin. The pair stared at each other.
“No,” Jungkook said preemptively. “I know that look. Whatever you're thinking, stop.”
Taehyung crawled across the circle.
Jimin met him halfway.
Their kiss was even less restrained than the last. They made it a SHOW.
There was a hand in hair. There was a small, appreciative noise from Jimin. There was Jungkook shouting, “WHY ARE THEY SO NATURAL AT THIS?” while Hoseok fell sideways into Namjoon's lap laughing.
Yoongi was delighted.
“Wow this is better than television.”
Beside him, Jin was watching his reaction and Yoongi noticed because Yoongi was always, unfortunately, aware of Jin.
“What?” Yoongi asked curiously.
“Nothing.”
“You're being weird.”
“I'm hosting spin the bottle at thirty-three. The weird ship has already sailed.”
“Fair.”
Jin's knee pressed against his and the pressure sent a shiver through Yoongi.
Jungkook spun next and the bottle pointed at Jin.
The room erupted as Yoongi's stomach dropped. Which was a ridiculous reaction, after all this was the point. This entire ludicrous evening existed because Jin wanted to kiss someone here. Yoongi had known that before walking through the door. He had brought wine to the occasion.
Apparently he had failed to account for the possibility that he would have a front row seat to watching it happen.
Jungkook looked absolutely horrified and Jin looked very amused.
“Well?” Jin said with a suggestive lip bite and an exaggerated smoulder in his eyes.
“Hyung, if this awakens something in me, I'm billing you for therapy.”
“Just kiss me, you loser.”
Jungkook leaned over and planted a quick kiss on Jin's mouth.
Yoongi watched every second of it but really wished he hadn't.
It wasn't even a real makeout. Barely a few seconds. It was nothing compared to the displays already put on this evening. Jin laughed immediately afterward and shoved Jungkook away by the forehead.
But still, Yoongi couldn't help the fiery reaction he was having inside to it. Needing a distraction Yoongi necked down half of his wine. Beside him, Jin looked down at his glass and then back at Yoongi.
“Interesting.”
Yoongi frowned. Jin really liked that word at the moment.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
Yoongi narrowed his eyes.
Yoongi swept his eyes around the circle to find the whole gang staring right back at him.
Yoongi frowned harder. “Why are you all looking at me?”
“No reason,” Jimin said brightly taking a hefty sip of his own wine.
“You’re all terrible liars,” Yoongi muttered, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the five deceptively innocent faces surrounding him in the living room.
“Your turn,” Jin said cleanly. No smirking, no theatrical flair... just a quiet, unnerving stillness that didn't fit the ridiculousness of the night.
Yoongi sighed, leaning forward until his shadow overlapped with Jin’s on the pale rug. He pressed two fingers to the cold glass of the bottle and gave it a sharp flick.
It spun with a smooth rhythm. It felt like it had looped about a hundred times and the whole suspense of it was turning Yoongis insides into jelly. It eventually slowed its spin first skittering past Namjoon, then gliding past Taehyung, bypassing Jin entirely before slowing down to a lazy, agonizing crawl. Yoongi felt a sudden, traitorous pulse of disappointment in his chest. Then, as if mocked by gravity itself, the bottle wobbled, rolled backward half an inch, and settled directly on Kim Seokjin.
The chaotic noise in the apartment vanished instantly.
“Huh,” Yoongi said.
“Huh,” Jin echoed.
Yoongi’s brain stalled. The banter evaporated, leaving only the physical reality of Jin sitting inches away, one knee pressed warm against Yoongi’s thigh, his lips faintly stained from the wine.
“We don’t actually have to—” Yoongi began, his voice lacking its usual bite.
“Do you not want to?” Jin’s tone was soft, stripping away the joke leaving the sentence feeling very, very dangerous.
Yoongi felt his heart hammer aggressively. Want had never been the issue. Yoongi had spent years carefully packing his feelings into neat little boxes. He was fine with the friendzone...or at least, he'd thought he was. “I didn’t say that.”
Behind them, Jimin let out a tiny, strangled squeak. Yoongi ignored the five pairs of curious eyes burning into his side and focused entirely on Jin leaning close enough for their breath to mingle.
“Last chance to run away,” Jin murmured, his eyes searching Yoongi's face.
Yoongi met his gaze, his voice dropping an octave. “From you? Not likely.”
When Jin’s mouth met his, two immediate truths struck Yoongi with devastating clarity: Jin was a terrifyingly good kisser, and this wasn’t a 'bit' after all. There was nothing casual about the long, warm fingers sliding up the side of Yoongi’s neck, or the thumb pressing firmly into his jawline with deliberate, lingering intent.
Yoongi froze for half a beat before instinct obliterated his defenses. He fist-clutched the front of Jin’s open shirt, dragging him closer, and kissed him back in harder, deeper manner, until Jin let out a low, ruined sound against his lips.
When they finally parted, breathing hard, the room was dead quiet. No catcalls. No laughter.
Yoongi swiveled his head around the room and blinked at the five distinct, unbearably smug faces staring back at him. Then he looked at Jin, whose cheeks were flushed dark pink, his eyes wide with a rare, naked vulnerability.
Five names. Five no’s.
Taehyung? No. Jimin? No. Namjoon, Hoseok, Jungkook? No, no, no.
Oh. Oh, fuck.
Yoongi looked into Jin's doe eyes which were clearly anticipating some sort of response from him.
“You lied,” Yoongi breathed, pointing a sharp, accusing finger at Jin.
The room erupted. Hoseok collapsed backward onto the rug screaming, Jimin began wildly applauding, and Jin finally broke, laughing so hard he pitched forward, burying his forehead into the crook of Yoongi’s neck.
“You threw an entire spin-the-bottle party because you were too scared to just ask me out?!” Yoongi shouted over the deafening noise.
Jin peeked up, his usual bravado melting into something soft. “I needed an excuse... in case you didn’t want me back.”
Something in Yoongi’s chest went painfully tender. Beneath the absurd scheme, the wine, and the joke, Jin had just been terrified. Then he remembered the other detail...
"You said you wanted to test if I was a good kisser first!" Yoongi screeched. "You thought I'd be bad?!"
"I thought if I hinted that I thought they'd be bad, It might encourage you to really, you know, go for it with the kiss. As I said, I didn't know if you wanted me back..."
“You complete idiot,” Yoongi murmured, cupping the back of Jin’s neck. “I’ve wanted you for years.”
Jin’s breath hitched. “You could’ve said something!”
“You’re the one hosting teenage party games at thirty-three!”
“Get a room!” Jungkook shrieked, ducking as Yoongi blindly hurled a sofa cushion over his shoulder.
Jin didn't wait this time. He caught Yoongi by the chin, pulling him into a slow, certain kiss.
Much later, after the chaos cleared and their laughing friends finally filed out into the night, the apartment fell into a deep silence. Yoongi stood near the door, watching Jin turn the lock.
Yoongi smirked, leaning back against the wall. “So. Still think your little scheme was a good idea?”
Jin turned around, closing the distance until there was no air left between them. He wrapped his hands firmly around Yoongi’s waist, pulling him flush.
“Best decision I ever made.”
