Summary
Most people attend this ball seeking power. To be the spouse of the Watchman of the Underworld is not a simple task. It's not a life that anyone would choose just for the fun of it. But Cater is not here for power--he is here for adventure. He doesn't think there is any universe in which Idia Shroud would even notice him at this ball, in the swarms of people who are richer, smarter, and more powerful than he. But any life would be better than the life he has now, and his sisters mocked him for even thinking that he could attend an event like this, and all he wanted to do was prove he could be his own person and take his life into his own hands.
