Summary
The Shape of Summer Rain follows Jan and JingJing, former high school sweethearts reunited more than a decade after their first love ended painfully. Once an unlikely pair, the carefree and popular Jan and the disciplined prefect JingJing began as rivals before friendship slowly slipped into the secrecy of first love, filled with rainy afternoons, hands held beneath desks and kisses stolen in empty corridors. Then JingJing abruptly walked away, leaving behind a wound neither of them ever truly understood.
Years later, JingJing is a successful model preparing an autobiographical exhibition, while Jan has become a photographer known for capturing people with startling intimacy. When they are unexpectedly hired for the same project, Jan must photograph the woman she once loved while JingJing must allow herself to be seen by the person who once knew her best. Moving between past and present, the story explores how love becomes grief, how longing can turn into resentment, and how two people must learn to accept the parts of themselves they once believed needed fixing before they can learn to love each other again.
