Chapter Text
Jareth sighed, watching as the crystal ball rolled off his fingertips and fall to the floor with a crash. Even though he had watched the memory from the Escher room over and over it was still painful to him. Jareth had thought that sleeping his way through the fae court would have rid his mind of the Labyrinth champion; yet again she had proved him wrong. Jareth lounged back across his throne, slinging his leg up against the arm in his trademark pose. He was in a foul mood; something that had become a regular occurrence in the Labyrinth. He was still a fair ruler and upheld the rules of the Labyrinth yet there was no heart in it. After all his heart had been stolen by the girl who ate the peach and stole everything. True to Sarah’s word Jareth was unable to hold any power over her life. Thus, he could not see the young woman through his conjured crystals nor could he see or manipulate her dreams. So, Jareth found himself resigned to perch outside of her window in his owl form or to simply sulk in his rooms replaying Sarah’s run in his crystals.
The King of the Goblin’s thoughts were interrupted by the soft voice of a young boy;
“You don’t deserve this Amy, you really don’t. I wish… I wish…. I wish that the goblins will come and take you away. Right Now,” Jareth closed his eyes solemnly, he was noticing an increase in these sorts of cases recently. It was heartbreaking to see that some human children really were better off in the Underground than they were about. Jareth moved off his throne.
“Darcy” he called out in a soft tone to his younger sister who had been living in his castle for some time now. Darcy had been sent to him by their father Oberon; although Jareth was kindly not informed the reason why; although Jareth suspected that this had something to do with the recent friendship with his father’s servant boy, Puck. She was in a foul mood most of the time, and when she wasn’t she was tormenting him. He knew she was miserable and, yet he couldn’t help her.
Darcy materialized in front of Jareth, a patronizing smile on her face.
“Yes dear, darling brother?” Jareth sighed resisting the urge to pinch his nose, evidently, she was in one of her mood of the latter. This was one of her more difficult qualities.
“Go deal with our new member of the court.” Darcy folded her arms across her chest.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t aware that dealing with the brats that run the Labyrinth was a part of my job description.”
“Well if you’re going to be staying here you might as well make yourself useful instead of tormenting my goblins.” Jareth had hoped that caring for the runners of the Labyrinth would cheer her up, even if it was a dark source of enjoyment, but she seemed to take a higher glee from kicking goblins out of windows. This he could not abide by, they were his goblins to kick, and even then he wouldn’t kick them so they actually got hurt. He gave Darcy a hard stare, his height and the stone steps giving him the height advantage. Darcy returned his stare before unfolding her arms.
“Fine, I’ll go, but only so I can make the boy cry. One day you’ll have to tear yourself away from your precious visions of your mortal. Don’t think I haven’t noticed. You’ve become a laughing stock, not attending court in years, pining away over a silly little girl. Honestly, you’re making the Fairy King look fierce, all 6 inches of him with all your moping.” A sly smile appeared on her face as she mocked him. Jareth took a seat ready to dismiss her.
“What I do in my spare time is my own. I do not need to attend those vaudeville displays at court, Sarah could outwit them all in a second.” Jareth froze as Darcy’s grin grew menacing and he realized his mistake.
“Sarah, so that’s her name is it? Well isn’t this an interesting piece of information.” Jareth stood his eyes ablaze.
“Darcy, if you dare…” Darcy waved her hand flippantly.
“Now, now brother don’t you worry. I have far more pressing members to attend to.” With that, she disappeared in a wisp of smoke. Jareth stalked over to the window to survey his Labyrinth, worry tormenting his mind.
Later, much later. Darcy sat on the windowsill of her room, the goblin Pip sitting between her knees. While she may enjoy rising her brother’s hackles by tormenting his subjects; Pip, she had a softness for, and he, in turn, enjoyed watching her punish those that bullied him. But now she had a far more enticing target to occupy herself with. She spun an orb of midnight in her hand, watching as the clouds parted over a mortal woman. She grinned.
“Sarah, oh Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. How I am going to have fun with you.”
