The Coming of Earth .

Summary:

Book 2 of the Kanan chronicles!

Now that Kanan has dealt with the DEO, he's free to deal with other things, like learning about human culture with his friend Maya, eating sushi every day, and becoming a (rather reluctant) superhero.

But when his cousin, the Superman of earth, finds a child locked away in a lab made by his enemy, and abandons him out of fear, it's up to Kanan and his new family to take care of the human-krytonian hybrid, and just maybe learn to get past their own traumas too.

Chapter 1: God or human? Who knows!

Chapter Text

"Hello again Maya." He said with a smile, raising his arms up from his sides. "It appears I am in need of your assistance."

I stare at- What was his name? Kanan? – him with wide eyes, stumbling away from him in search of something to hold onto. My hands cling onto the roofs vent, sending my hair flying in waves around my head. I spit out a lock of my dark red hair, scrunching my eyes and releasing one hand to tuck it back behind my ear.

“Maya?” Kanan repeats, taking a step forward. “Are you alright?”

“No, I am certainly not alright!” I exclaim, sticking my pointer finger at his chest. He twitches slightly but doesn’t move as I continue. “You just kidnapped me!”

“I did not.” He replies calmly. “Your parents were nowhere in sight, and I won't hurt you. Most kidnappers want to hurt their hostages.”

I glare at him. “Get me down.”

“No.”

The sickly feeling of fear sinks back into my stomach. Why is always me that gets in trouble?

Please get me down.”

“Maya, I just need your help.” Kanan softens his voice slightly, taking another step forward, and I take a step back, my gaze twitching to his hands as he follows me.

“What do you need my help with?” I say. “You’re practically a god! What do you need me for?”

“I want you to..” He hesitates, wringing his hands together. “To teach me how to fit in, to..”

“Be human?”

We lock eyes, dark chocolate brown meeting sky blue, and his pupils change colour?

In a split second, he’s standing right in front of me, pressing me against the vent as I’m forced to take a step back.

“I am not human, and I never will be!” Kanan hisses, his gaze burning into mine. “Got it?”

I open my mouth to answer him, but nothing comes out. The realization hits me like a dump truck, . I’m completely defenseless. He could do anything to me, and I wouldn’t be able to do anything to stop him.

Something unintelligible slips out of my mouth, and Kanan tilts his head, the scowl etched on his face shifting into a puzzled frown.

“What’d you say?”

“You’re too close..” I whisper, willing my hands not to shake. “Can you..”

Suddenly I’m standing alone, and I can finally breathe again. I look around for Kanan, and he clears his throat from the left of me. I spin around, my breath catching at the sight.

Kanan’s hovering midair, just beyond the edge of the building, his bright golden hair shining as the sun creates a halo behind him and his striking blue eyes almost matching the cloudless blue sky.

He looks… godly  handsome  nervous?

“I’m sorry for scaring you.” Kanan says softly, his voice somehow traveling all the way across the building. “It wasn’t my intention.”

“You didn’t scare me.” I reply, gaining back my composure as I straighten my back, brushing a wayward lock of hair behind my ear. “Just… surprise me, that’s all.”

He nods, gesturing to the building. “Do you want me to stand or..?”

“Whatever’s comfortable for you.” I say, the words slipping out almost instantly.

Kanan frowns, floating downwards. “You don’t have to fear me Maya. I won't hurt you.”

“You take me out of sight of anyone who could possibly pose any threat to you, put me somewhere high up, get very close to me.” I list, my voice surprisingly calm. “Not to mention that you’re untouchable, plus you have the powers of a literal god. Tell me why I shouldn’t fear you.”

He’s silent for a second, and when he speaks, it’s in a voice I didn’t expect from him. Vulnerable.

“Because I don’t want to be alone anymore.”

I scrunch my eyebrows together. “What?”

“I’ve been on this planet for 6 years, 72 months and 22 days, and I’ve spent most of that time being tortured and broken by your kind. I didn’t think that a good human existed until yesterday.”

He meets my eyes, and I can sense that, however impossible that entire sentence was, he’s telling the truth.

“I want to meet other good humans. I want to learn about the good things this planet has to offer.” Kanan finishes.

“And you think I can help you with that?”

“Why can't you?” He asks.

I hesitate, thinking for a reason. Because I don’t want to? Because that would mean skipping school? Because my parents would flip out if I bring home a handsome alien?

“Because…” I say. “Because where would we even start?”

“You could introduce me to your friends.” Kanan suggests, so quickly that I suspect he was waiting for the question.

“No.” I say immediately. “Not a good idea.”

Who would I even introduce him to? Amelia, who despises aliens and has the FBI on speed dial?

Mia, who doesn’t even think aliens exist? And if they do, she’s a 100% sure they’re green with black eyes that look like a smudge of paint?

Noah, who-

Noah!

“I can introduce you to one of my friends.” I relent. “But only one. For now.”

He grins at me, a smile that lights up his face and gives him two tiny dimples on his cheeks. They look absolutely adorable. “Deal!”

I take a scrunchie out of my pocket, swiftly tying my hair into a messy bun as I sit down on the ground. Kanan sits down Infront of me, tucking his knees to his chest and leaning his head on them.

“Okay.” I begin. “What do you want to know?”

“Everything!” Kanan replied. “Food, culture, people, all of it.”

“Oh, than you’re in luck. I am the best yapper in my entire year.”

He stares at me, bewildered. “The best what?

I stifle a laugh. “Okay, we’re certainly going through slang first.”
