Roller Rink

Summary:

Since Sero and Bakugo earned free coupons to go to a local Roller Rink, obviously a one-shot had to happen :) Fun Fact: Bakugo sucks at skating.

Notes:

I would just like to quickly specify that this one-shot is completely platonic. I personally headcanon Katsuki as aromantic, so you won't really find any fic where he's shipped with someone on my account (unless it's a gift for someone else).
But I guess if you desire, you could read this as romantic. Just know that it's not meant to be.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“So, you ever been rollerskating, Bakugo?” Sero asked as he packed his bag. The ash-blond had already finished packing and was watching Sero while waiting.

“Once for a school field trip back in fourth grade,” Bakugo replied, his cheeks slightly red. Was he feeling hot, Hanta wondered.

“Wow. I’ve been skating practically my whole life. My family likes going to the rink together,” Sero replied. “So if you need any help learn-”

“I don’t need any help! I can skate fine on my own!” Bakugo interrupted, which Hanta expected.

He also expected it when the first thing Bakugo did once on the rink was fall flat on his face. Hanta hid a snicker behind his hand before offering a hand to help him up.

“I can get up on my own!” Katsuki protested.

“I’d like to see you try,” Sero replied with a smirk. Katsuki took it as a challenge. He managed to stand for all of one second before he fell onto his back this time.

Hanta was laughing fully while Bakugo glared at him. “Now, will you accept my help?”

The blond grumbled under his breath as he took Sero’s outstretched hand, letting go the second he was standing. That turned out to be a mistake as he almost fell again. Luckily, his black-haired companion was fast enough to catch his arm.

“Yeah, I think you need those skating lessons.” Hanta switched their positions so he was holding both of his friend’s wrists to keep him steady. “This is how I’ve been teaching my little sister, Chie. Although even she might have better balance than you do.”

“Now, first piece of advice: if you think about falling, you’re going to fall. If you focus less on that, you’ll have better balance. At least, that always works for me,” Hanta continued, now fully in teaching mode. “But let’s get the foot movement down before I let go of you.”

Katsuki was strangely quiet as Hanta taught him. He wasn’t sure he’d seen the tape boy so focused on something before; it was clear this was something he really loved.

After about half an hour, Sero was able to let go of Bakugo’s wrists. The teen was still a little wobbly, but he was remaining upright.

“I’ll stick close to you while we skate. Don’t want you to get more bruises than you already have.”

So the two skated side by side, Sero occasionally having to grab Katsuki’s arm to stop another fall.

“So, what was the first time you skated like? Fall on your face then too?” Hanta asked, both wanting to tease his friend and start a conversation.

Katsuki’s face went red. “I hated that field trip.”

“Any reason why?”

Katsuki’s cheeks went redder. Now Hanta was really curious.

“None of your business!”

“Fine… But I’ll tell you all about my first time rollerskating! I think I was about five. I went all about six seconds before falling and breaking my arm. Kenta still won’t let me live that one down. Every time I get on the rink, he tells me not to break anything.”

“Who the crap is Kenta?”

“My older brother.”

“Since when do you have siblings anyway? You mentioned a sister earlier.”

“Wait, I’ve never mentioned my siblings? I know I like to let others lead conversations, but I didn’t realize that was making it so people don’t know things about me. Well, I actually have four siblings. Three brothers and one sister. I’m the second oldest, just after Kenta.”

“I don’t think the extras know about the skating thing either. That was news to me,” Katsuki grumbled.

“I don’t get to do it as much when on campus, so I guess I don’t have many opportunities to show people. I guess I kind of like to tell people I’m good at skating and immediately prove it.”

“Just how good?” Katsuki asked, raising an eyebrow in challenge.

“I’ll show you if you think you can stay standing,” Sero teased back.

Katsuki had to focus so his jaw wouldn’t drop. Sero could do tricks on roller skates most people probably didn’t even try to accomplish. Basically, the whole rink was looking at the guy, cheering for his performance. And Hanta seemed perfectly fine having an audience.

Once he was done, it was time to head back to the dorms. Most everyone was in the common room, as dinner was almost ready.

“Oh, hey you two! How was the roller rink?” Mina was the first to greet them.

“It was a lot of fun!” Hanta replied.

“Kacchan actually went skating?” Midoriya asked.

“Yeah, why?” Sero asked curiously as Bakugo’s face began to redden again.

“Well, after the incident in fourth grade-”

“I told you to never talk about that again!” Katsuki interrupted him again.

“Oop, sorry!”

“Noooo, Midoriya! Please, continuuuuuuue,” Mina whined as Midoriya excused himself into the kitchen.

Notes:

I feel like someone's going to ask what the fourth-grade incident was. Well, the answer to that... Is something only Katsuki and Izuku know. Seriously, I have no clue myself. But whatever it was, it was very embarrassing. That's why Katsuki kept going red. Because he feels embarrassed remembering this incident.
