Chapter Text

Misty Quigley wasn’t searching for anything. She was only looking through her best friend’s personal items. One thing she learned, however, was how beautiful it can be to watch two people fall in love; and how heartbreaking it can be to watch them break each other’s hearts.

Dear Miss Scatorccio,

Forgive me, for this impromptu letter. I am aware we have no association with one another (and I know phones exist. I simply find writing letters more poetic.)

However, I must say; I saw you practicing soccer today and I was deeply impressed. I myself hoped to become a professional soccer player once upon a time, though there are no professional women’s sports leagues for this sport.

I’d like to get to know you better, if at all possible. You seem truly delightful despite being somewhat intimidating.

Wishing you well,

Miss Jackie Taylor

Dear Jackie (miss and miss is weirdly formal, but on brand for you)

I will say I was surprised to get your letter. The part about phones is irrelevant since we often get other letters telling me my mother doesn’t pay the phone bill.

I do honestly admire you as well. I think it would be nice to have people naturally gravitate towards you rather than away from you.

As for getting to know me better, meet me at the strip mall downtown on Saturday at four. I know your perfect friends would hate to be there, and I wouldn’t want to ruin your image by being seen with you.

See you soon,

Nat

Dear Natalie,

I really enjoyed your company yesterday. You’re funny, in the genuine kind of way. Not like anyone else I spend time with.

Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself, but this could perhaps become an every weekend thing? Or possibly every afternoon?

No, maybe not. Or maybe. Only time can tell.

XoXo, Jackie

Dearest Jackie,

I really don’t understand why you would celebrate Christmas in the Bahamas. It’s snowing here, an awful lot. How are you? I am well. I hope you’re enjoying your oddly timed tropical vacation, though I know you’ll be tanned while the rest of us look like ghosts.

I miss you. There is nobody to spend time with except for Misty, but she isn’t as funny or entertaining as you. Our conversations include more pauses than words. And she only ever wants to make snow angels! It’s so… boring.

I don’t know when this letter will find you, but presumably it’s on Boxing Day. Merry Christmas, Jackie.

Sending love, Nat

My Nat,

I did get this on Boxing Day. I arrive tomorrow, and I am planning on breaking up with Jeff.

You can finally have me all to yourself, I suppose.

This has to be short, I’m packing.

Kisses, Jackie.
