Summary:

Jack is 1,603 years old when he first sees the guardians. He is 2,809 years old when one finally sees him, though is he really a 'guardian'?

Notes:

Please read the tags!! This will be a BlackIce fic so I don't want anyone to see that httyd is tagged and think it's a Hijack/Viking era Jack fic.

Although I do love Hijack this is Blackice!

The Viking era is touched upon but so are all Jack's years of life up untill and after the movie timeline.

Hopefully, if I ever write more for this lolz

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Jack has been around for a long time now. Way before Vikings but well after humans started to live in civilizations. Father Time was weird like that, anyways, Jack was lonely.

So lonely.

Invisible to everyone and thing around him- his very presence being passed right through as if he were never there to begin with.

He felt like he was going insane and he's seen humans do that before! He knows what all the different types of crazy look like and if he was convinced he was already crazy himself then he's sure he is not too far from being insane by now.

Because there was a difference, crazy and insane were not the same thing, thank you!

It's been 1,203 years since the Vikings were wiped out by another winter spirit. Specifically Berk, the first people to see him and not be immediately hostile.

You see he helped one of their own, an important one. The son of the chief, Hiccup. Now 5 generations after Hiccup's time, they're all gone. All of Berk. All of his people gone.

For 300 years he was seen by none when he first awoke out of his lake and told his name by The Man in the Moon, or 'Mani' as he likes to call him. Then once people first saw him they were afraid. They'd run away or throw things at him; he'd had plenty of bad days where he accidently pushed his storms out and the humans were scared a spirit had been angered by their peoples somehow but he usually doesn't mean to! And yeah, most of the time it's accidental but some did deserved it so it's not all bad. The world runs on balance and if he has the power to tip the scale back into place then why not? But most of the time he doesn't mean to cause such destruction his storms create and once he pushes something out like that he can't take it away. Even if he actually didn't mean to do it, he's tried again and again to pull it back in but it hurts him too much to really be of any help in taking it back.

He just wants to be accepted and it's upsetting when he brings his snow days and winter joy just to be walked right through! There are other spirits who see him but don't like his friendliness with the humans so they avoid him since humans are usually prey for winter spirits like himself.

Then, after 100 years of not being seen by anyone who didn't immediately respond with violence or fear he thought he found his home. A place where he belonged. The Hairy Hooligan Clan of Berk. The people who, although afraid at first, built him a shrine for saving one of their own. Who slowly started to befriend him after the children would play with him in the woods, which they were told not to but kids will do what they want.

But one day it was taken all away from him, almost instantly his second home after his lake was no more.

The Snow Queen had slain all of Berk and it's people, his people.

Now a thousand odd years later after they've been wiped out he thinks he is going insane, why you might ask? Well for one, those weird people who crash landed on his planet. There were four who seemed to be in good graces but one, the fifth one, looked like he was running from them for some unknown reason.

And although Jack doesn't know why or how they came to his planet, his planet because they clearly just fell from the stars, he decides to follow them.

After trailing the four who were still running after the fifth person for some time he realizes they can't see him.

None of them can.

He knows he shouldn't be but he's disappointed, he hasn't been seen for over a thousand years at this point and now some space alien people who fell from the stars themselves can't even see him too?

It's not fair.

It's not fair.

Still, he continues to follow the five as he stews in his anger and loneliness, deciding this was interesting enough to not just fly away with The Wind. He studies them as he uses the Wind's help to glide beside the star-fallen people as he slowly pieces together what little information he can about them from just observation.

There's the biggest one who looks all tuff with two tiny swords that Jack has never seen before in both of his hands, he wears a large, thick, winter coat with black pants and boots. Then there's one that can fly like Jack, except she has wings to fly instead of his friend, The Wind, like he does. She wears nothing as colorful feathers cover her entire body, with jewels and necklaces hanging from her neck and hands. The third one looks like some overgrown bunny-kangaroo creature with just a brown bag thrown over his white-streaked grey fur covered shoulders and what seems to be some incredible anger issues to boot.

Like seriously how can one curse so much and not run out of breath while also chasing someone? Not like Jack would know, he doesn't need to breath although his chest rises up and down automatically for some reason he doesn't care to know.

The last of the group that's chasing the fifth person is the tiniest by a long shot. And he's also completely golden. His hair, clothes, and skin are all different shades of gold and he seems to be riding on top of a giant golden sand cloud to catch the person they're after. And the person they're chasing? Well for one his outfit and color scheme is completely black unlike the others who have colors all over them- except the golden person since he's- well, just golden in color. This person though, was shrouded in black, head to toe. It even seems the shadows were clinging to him as he ran and although they look opposite the last two space people's hair fell similarly in the same strange way, always pushed back even with The Wind moving wildly around them.

Eventually Jack grows bored watching them chase the fifth person, who doesn't even look like he's breaking a sweat while running- yet he curiously doesn't try to fight his chasers.

Just keeps running and running while it seems his chasers, minus the golden person, are slowly getting tired.

After some odd 30 minutes of following the group of five on The Wind, Jack leaves to go elsewhere, feeling out if somewhere else needs any snow.

Jack flies off to the southern hemisphere to help bring His Winter and Frost without another thought.

Because why does it matter if they can't see him anyways? No one can, they're not special. No, Jack does what he does best. Ignore the hurt of not being seen despite the small hope he had this time. He instead helps the world with bringing His Winter to the lands that need that little extra bit for the seasons to be balanced once more.
