" –you just don't want to admit he's stronger than you." Yeongi finished triumphantly with an evil, evil smirk.
"Stronger than me?! Yah!–" Suho flailed his arm so hard he almost spilled his drink.
This punk. God knows why he even hung out with her. Okay fine. Maybe these nights bickering with her while Sieun joined in at times with his quiet voice were some of his favourites.
But that didn't erase the fact she was a goddamned punk who kept insulting him half the time, and teasing him about his crush on Sieun the other.
Well. Supposed crush.
Despite what Yeongi might think, two best friends could be affectionate and protective towards each other without it having any other meaning. And no. Suho did not make pathetic puppy dog eyes whenever Sieun was around— this girl seriously needed her eyes checked.
He huffed as she said something insanely outrageous again. "Aish! Don't you have a life? Stop telling me nonsense and go back to pining over that girl you've been making a fool out of yourself for for the past two weeks."
Yeongi cut herself off, giving him the finger with a deadpan expression.
So naturally Suho did the mature thing here— he stuck his tongue out in response.
He’d just opened his mouth to go on another tangent when he suddenly felt a weight fall against him.
Slowly, he craned his neck back to take a look although he was pretty sure he knew what it was.
Oh.
Not just any weight. Sieun.
Sieun was leaning against him, with almost all of his weight, hugging his bag adorably– no. Not adorably. Stupidly. Not adorable at all– and by the looks of it dead asleep.
He'd been too quiet that night, exhaustion lining his eyes more than usual but Suho had guiltily ignored it in favour of spending some more time with him.
But it seemed like it had taken a toll on him.
"Sieun-ah, " Suho tried calling him.
His voice came out strained for some reason.
Sieun remained asleep though, chest falling and rising gently, a peaceful expression on his face, all traces of stress wiped away. He looked so soft like this, with his bangs falling over his eyes, lips parted slightly, Suho almost wanted to—
What– No!
Suho turned his head back abruptly, freezing when he felt Sieun slipping against him.
His whole body felt like it was lit on fire for some reason. He looked at Yeongi helplessly, not daring to move another muscle.
But it was no use. Yeongi looked just as shocked as he felt, eyes darting between the two of them.
But her shock faded away only to be replaced by that evil smirk again.
"Don't–" Suho hissed before she even opened her mouth.
"What? You don't even know what I was gonna say!" The glint in her eyes spelled nothing but trouble.
"You know perfectly well what rubbish you were going to say, " he snapped back, lowering his voice when he felt Sieun jerk slightly. "Now is not the time!"
Yeongi didn't say anything in response, instead yawning in a dramatic and very obviously fake manner.
"I'm beat. I think I'mma go now," She drawled, stretching her arms.
"What–? No! You have to help me–" Suho spluttered, panicked.
But she was already getting up, tugging her bag back into place.
"Yeongi please."
She stilled for a moment and for a joyous, hopeful moment Suho thought she'd taken pity on him but her face just split into a grin again. "I'm sure you can handle it, strong man." She blew a kiss towards them. "Have fun."
"But not too much fun." She called, walking away, ignoring Suho's whisper-yells.
Okay, he was officially taking back every nice thing he'd said about her. She was pure evil.
He slumped over, resigned, straightening back up immediately when he felt Sieun slip again.
With some difficulty, he twisted his body around, cradling Sieun gently to make sure he didn't fall.
Oh but this was worse. This was so much worse.
Because Sieun was now slumped against his chest, his breaths tickling Suho's collarbone and his heart felt like it would jump out of his chest with how hard it was beating.
He thanked his lucky stars that Sieun was too deep in sleep to hear it.
But then, him being asleep was what had got them into this situation in the first place.
Sieun mumbled something, causing Suho's grip to tighten on him almost instinctively.
He was taken aback again by just how peaceful Sieun looked like this. He almost didn't have the heart to wake the smaller boy up but it was going to get colder soon and they obviously couldn't spend the night sitting like this with Suho holding him. Obviously. Stupid brain.
Well... it wasn't as if he lacked the strength. And their shared bodywarmth would maybe be enough—
What? Stupid, stupid brain!
Suho physically shook his head in an attempt to get rid of these ridiculous thoughts. Yeongi had gotten in his head. That was all. He cursed her mentally.
"Sieun-ah, " He called again, a bit louder.
After a couple of attempts, Sieun stirred, blinking up at him slowly.
Suho's throat suddenly went dry.
God, Sieun really had the biggest doe eyes ever. And they shone too. Like the stars. So pret– No.
Suho cleared his throat, looking away pointedly.
"I f'll asleep?" Sieun asked, slurring a bit.
Suho's heart flipped in his chest. Completely unrelated to this of course. Maybe he needed a visit to the doctor. Hot flashes, heart palpitations– all signs pointed to a dangerous disease.
"Yeah," He cleared his throat again.
"Oh."
Sieun was quiet for a moment and when Suho finally drew his eyes back to him he saw the smaller boy staring at his hands intently.
Which were fisted around Suho's shirt.
Oh fuck. He completely forgot about how they were sitting. Did he cross a line? Fuckfuckfuck did he make Sieun uncomfortable?
"Sieunnie?" He asked, tentatively.
Sieun made a questioning noise in his throat, looking up at him again. His eyes were dazed, and he looked half asleep again.
A wave of relief washed over Suho. Sieun wasn't uncomfortable, he was just extremely sleepy.
Cute. Suho had to bite his cheek lest he burst out laughing.
"Come on Sieunnie we gotta go," He murmured eventually when it looked like Sieun would fall asleep in his arms again.
"H’me?" Sieun asked, barely comprehensible.
Suho's breath caught.
Sieun was completely pliant in his arms, his eyes— which were always guarded and alert— half lidded and so openly trusting, it made something deep and protective rise in his chest.
God. He didn't know what he'd done to earn this precious boy's trust but in that moment he swore he'd spend his life trying to keep deserving it.
"Yeah," His voice was rough. "Yeah, let's get you home, Sieunnie."
Sieun smiled at him then. Slowly and syrupy and completely unselfconscious.
Oh.
Oh.
Maybe Yeongi was right.
She'd be so fucking smug, Suho thought irritatedly, as he gently buckled Sieun's helmet.
But whatever— Sieun's arms came up to wrap around around his waist— it was fucking worth it.
