Dungeons & Dingoes

Summary:

I made this about 3 years ago while I had a D&D obsession, I'm uploading it to ao3 just for the fun of it. It is unfinished and I have edited it before posting to ao3, I shall try to be as transparent as I can with where and how much I have edited.

Notes:

This chapter is actually the newest in terms of when I wrote it but its not edited much, I only removed useless text that I forgot to remove.

Chapter 1: New Beginnings

Chapter Text

The tavern is bustling with men, the air reeks of booze, the wooden floors are rotting and moldy from all the liquid spilled on the floor. The floor above creaks loudly with every step.

On the first floor Turo the giant minotaur, Bhart the handsome elf, Admur the bothersome dwarf, Zoth the traveling human, Terna the Infernal dragonborn, Spine the shifter, and Doug the human archaeologist. They were all drinking booze, laughing, making jokes, and making ruckus.

“Turo I bet u can fit a whole barrel of booze in your mouth” Admur says laughing. “I bet I could” A moderately drunk Turo replies. “One barrel of booze please!” Admur yells at the waiter. After a bit of laughing and making jokes two strong men come with a giant barrel of booze and put it next to Admur. Turo immediately picks it up and guzzles the whole barrel dry. “Uhm, isn't that too much Turo?” Doug asks. “It's fiiiine” Turo says. Right after a befuddled Turo collapses on the ground. “How much did he drink again?” Spine asks. “38 pints i think and another 20 from that barrel”.

“Okay, time to get out of here” Doug says. “How are we going to move Turo dumbass?”. Doug looks around for a solution, he sees a mage. “Hey you mage, can you help us with this?” Doug yells. The mage looks over his shoulder at Doug. The mage scoffs and teleports over to Doug in a blink of an eye “what tis it you want peasant?” the mage says. “Could you teleport us somewhere?” Doug says pointing at Turo. “I'll pay you 60GP”. The mage thinks for a short while, sighs and agrees to the deal. “Where to?” “the forest just outside the village”. The mage chants his words and in an instant they're standing in a random open area in the forest.

“Thank you” Doug hands over the money. The mage scoffs and disappears. It's quiet, cold and dark… maybe too quiet? “Admur, Bhart and I will set up the tents, Terna you and Doug will prepare the firewood and Spine you stay near Turo” Zoth commands. Everyone spreads around and starts working, Spine sighs and sits down next to Turo. “How did we get ourselves here again” he leans against Turo’s chest and takes a deep breath.

Spine's hair starts standing up a little, after a few deep breaths he smells a whiff of rotting flesh and bones. “Hey guys, I smell something weird” Spine points out. Just as Spine says that he sees a pair, no a few pairs of glowing red eyes staring directly at him through the dark bushes. “Skeletons!” Spine yells. The skeletons lunge towards Spine. Spine ducks under and dodges left. Spine looks around thankfully he only sees skeletons. Out of the blue Admur appears and bashes a few of the skeletons turning them to nothing but ash.

The other skeletons visible get angrier and start sprinting towards Admur, however they're no match for him. In one fell swoop Admur destroys every skeleton in sight. “Thanks Admur” Spine says. “No problem, we always look out for each other” Admur replies.

An hour later. Admur, Zoth and Bhart finish setting up the tents while Doug and Terna finish up setting the firewood in place. “Whos gonna light the fire?” Doug asks. Terna looks at doug “i dont know” she says sarcastically.

The silence is loud, so loud you can hear crickets up the mountains chirping. Terna sighs and breathes fire on the firewood. A warm soft fire erupts from the firewood, the embers flying of into the night sky. “What do we eat?” Bhart asks. “Mmm how about some leftover steak?” Zoth replies.

Zoth puts the steak on a rock and sets it on top of the fire and it instantly starts searing. After a few minutes of cooking the steak is done and split among the party. “Okay i'm hitting the hay *yawn* it's probably past midnight already” Terna says. The rest of the party decides to sleep in their tents too.
