Then the expression disappeared as another wave of pain moved through him.
Rogue watched it happen.
His fingers tightened around hers. His face went pale again. His shoulders drew inward, and his breath caught before he could stop it. She felt his grip become almost painfully tight, but she did not pull away.
She kept stroking his hair with her other hand.
Slowly. Steadily. Again and again.
“Breathe, Sugah.”
He tried.
The breath came out shaky.
“That’s it.”
Another.
She stayed beside him through the next one.
And the next.
