Movie date

Summary:

I swear it’s worth it to read, even if it’s short.

Work Text:

Steve stared at his phone. He and Soda are going on a date to the movies tomorrow, and Soda had bailed on him during work today because Pony had gotten sick. He was just happy nobody had come to the shop apart from a few customers in the garage. His phone started ringing and it was Soda, and he answered immediately.

“Hey, Pepsi,” Steve said, shifting his weight so his arm wouldn’t ache from all his weight being on his elbow.

“Hi, Stevie. What time you want to meet up at the theater?” Soda questioned.

Steve paused, turning Soda to speaker, and went back to google to see what time they open; it said 10:30am on Sunday but the earliest tickets for the movie were at 10:45.

“Uh… 10:45? That’s the earliest they have open for the movie,” Steve asked.

“Sure, Darry’s going to be at work anyways and Pony’s going with Dallas and Johnny, otherwise, he’s staying home,” Soda responded.

Steve rolled onto his back, and stared at the ceiling with his phone to his ear.

“Soda, Darry’s going to find out about us at some point. Just tell him.”

“Darry would kill me, Stevie! He thinks I’m still grieving over Sandy,” Soda whined.

There was a pause, and then Steve spoke up.

“Soda, you’re almost 21, you can make your own decisions,” Steve said.

Soda rolled his eyes even though Steve couldn’t see him.

“I know my age, Princess,” Soda teased.

Soda had to stifle a laugh when he heard a whine from the other end of the line.

“Quit it, or I’m going to stand you up,” Steve threatened.

“You wouldn’t dare, you practically begged me to go with you,” Soda commented.

“Whatever, bye,” Steve said, and hung up before Soda could respond, and rolled onto his back.

Steve pulled up the tickets online so he can pay in advanced and actually get good seats, even if there’s probably not going to be a lot of people there.

Steve was leaned against his car in the lot of the theater, he had a cigarette in his mouth, and was scrolling on his phone. He was waiting for Soda to arrive—hopefully early, but he really doubted it. Steve took a drag and then looked up when he heard the crunch of gravel and Soda walked over. It’s 10:38, so Soda’s earlier than he expected.

“Hey, Stevie,” Soda said.

Steve dropped his cigarette and stepped on it to kill it.

“Hey, Pepsi. You’re early this time.”

Soda shrugged, and shoved his hands in his pockets.

“The movie don’t start until 45, lets go to the concessions,” Soda said.

“I’m just getting a coke,” Steve commented.

“Nuh uh, you’re getting more than that.”

Steve glared at him.

“I don’t want popcorn though!” Steve whined.

Soda giggled.

“Then get candy or something, I’ll get the bucket for myself then,” Soda said before kissing him on the cheek.

Steve leaned against Soda’s arm, waiting in line, he was swaying his body a little.

“Stevie, are you even looking at the screen or the candy?” Soda asked.

Steve looked up at Soda and stuck his tongue out.

“I just want a coke,” Steve whispered.

Soda grabbed two boxes of Trolli’s, and pulled Steve up when the people in front of them finally moved away. The cashier rung them up for everything, and Soda paid for everything.

After they had paid, they started walking to the theater at the end of the hall. They had to climb to the very top of the theater for their seats. Before Soda had even fully settled, Steve threw his legs on Soda’s lap—without his shoes obviously, that’s why he wore his slides.

“Really?” Soda quietly asked, raising an eyebrow at Steve with an amused expression of his face.
