Dj was tossing and turning in bed, he and Superfish had found all the ingredients for the potion and all that was left was to actually make it a for Dj to drink it.
What kept Dj awake wasn’t the fear of Superfish extracting the core and the pain it would bring, but rather about Superfish himself.
He really did love Superfish. He would always find himself thinking about that annoying witch all the time.
He would think about moments they’ve shared together within the few months, some that did happen and some that didn’t, and probably never will.
There was one thought that had been in the back of Dj’s mind for a while, but he had never confronted it.
What if Superfish really has only stuck around for the core?
That question had always been poking around in the very back of Dj’s head since a-bit after Superfish came around.
Dj hadn’t thought about it much, at-least not until tonight.
Dj flipped over onto his stomach and yelled curses into his pillow, all the “What-if’s” were eating him alive. He tilted his head to the side and looked over at the phone on his nightstand. despite it being well into the night and the fact that Superfish was probably asleep, He moved his shaking body to the edge of the bed and reached out towards the phone.
Dj hadn’t thought this through at all, he didn’t really know what he was gonna ask him.
Despite this, he slowly put in Superfish’s number and put the phone up to his ear.
Superfish picked up at the second ring, His voice sounding quite energetic despite the time of night it was.
“Helloooo?”
Dj let out a shaky breath before speaking.
“Superfish..”
“Dj..? You okay?” Superfish questioned, genuine concern forming in his voice.
Dj was tearing up now, but he didn’t really know why.
“Superfish…what do you think about me?”
“What..? You miss me already, Human? It’s only been a few hours since you last saw me.” Superfish giggled.
“Superfish, I’m being serious..” Dj mumbles, squeezing his eyes shut to blink away even more tears.
Superfish gripped his phone tighter, trying to form the right words.
“What do I think about Dj the human…” Superfish says, spacing out each word.
“Well, I think he’s a-bit of a bitch sometimes, to be honest. But so am I.”
Superfish laughs, a desperate attempt to up Djs mood, a silence following.
Superfish quickly realized that’s probably not what Dj was asking.
“Well…I also think he’s really kind, he always pays for my food. And saves me from monsters. Even if he risks his own life in the process.”
Superfish sighs, a smile appearing on his face.
“He always looks at me with this dumb smile, even when he thinks I can’t see him.”
Dj’s eyes widened, a genuine smile appearing on his face.
Dj suddenly started laughing heavily, before wiping his eye’s as he speaks,
“You always know what to say..Thank you, Superfish.”
Superfish found himself flustered by the nickname, Dj usually called him Fish-face or witch boy, Stupid nicknames he made up in the midst of their many conversations.
“So do you, Dhananjay.”
Dj giggles, “You’re STILL saying my name wrong, dumbass.”
“I’m still getting used to human names, Y’know?”
Dj chuckled, “And I’M still getting used to witch names, Superfish.”
Dj and Superfish stayed on the phone for hours talking about many things, almost none of which involving the core. It was the last thing on their minds.
“It’s pretty late, Don’t humans need atleast a FEW hours of sleep to function?” Superfish asked.
“I’ll be fine.” Dj smiled.
“So should I stay on the phone a-bit longer then? Not sure you’ll survive with me, heh.” Superfish laughs.
“Stay forever.”
