Chapter Text
Everything in new york was loud, the cars, the music-
"RAMONA!"
and most importantly, the people.
Ramona opened her eyes and saw Connor handing her another shot, though the bar was dark she could see him through the flicker of the colorful lights
"Hell yeah, thanks man" she screamed before downing the liquor in one gulp.
It was quickly becoming apparent to her that she was starting to get very intoxicated, so to clear her head she went out through the emergency exit at the back of the bar to smoke.
Not long after she went out the emergency exit door opened again.
"You planning on sharing that?"
"Not really"
Tessa chuckled softly before reaching out and taking the cigarette from Ramona's hand.
"Please, help yourself." she said sarcastically
"Don't mind if I do."
They shared the cigarette in silence. The feeling of passing the cigarette back and forth has always just reminded her of one thing. Oona.
Tessa was fun, or at least that's what she's been trying to convince herself to believe for about a week now. She thought the same about Samantha. And Callie. And Fatima. Which was a shame because they were fun, their only problem is they weren't who Ramona wants them to be. They were also good people, most of them at least. Since according to Steven, Callie had apparently tried to set her car on fire after Ramona had broken up with her.
"Hey, what's up? What's going on in that head of yours?" Tessa spoke softly, but it was enough to get her out of her own head.
"Tess, look you're an amazing person, like seriously, anyone would genuinely be lucky to have you... I just- I just don't think that person is me."
"Are you breaking up with me?"
"It's not your fault... I-"
"Just shut the fuck up, Ramona. Don't give me that 'it's not you it's me' shit, I don't need it."
"I'm sorry, Tessa... I really am."
"What was I even to you? Huh? I've liked you for a while now Ramona, and when you said yes when I asked you out I thought 'Finally someone that I could actually see myself having a future with' and not even a week later you fucking break up with me?"
Tessa had moved closer to her so they're now face to face, close enough that she could feel Tessa's anger radiating off of her skin. Ramona remained quiet because she knew, Tessa was right. She had every right to be angry.
"Fucking say something"
"I'm sorry" Ramona was now focused intently on the ground.
Tessa scoffed "Fuck you, Ramona and goodbye."
Once Tessa was out of sight Ramona promptly went back inside the bar, trying to stop the feeling through alcohol.
She went to the bartender and ordered 3 more shots and downed them one by one.
"Hehey! What is up sis, maybe leave some for the rest of us who are actually old enough to even be inside here?" Connor screamed directly in her ear.
"Jesus Christ dude do you ever shut the fuck up?" As she tried to turn and face him, she quickly got hit with a wave of nausea causing her to lose her balance.
A hand caught her before she fell head first into the counter "Okay yeah, I think you've had enough, c'mon now." Connor said while putting one of her flailing arms on his shoulder directly putting most of Ramona's weight to him.
When they reached the outside of the bar Ramona immediately felt the cold air hitting her face causing her to grimace. They sat at the curb for a while just waiting for a cab before Connor started talking again.
"Sooo... what happened with Tessa?"
"Ugh, is it physically impossible for you to leave me alone for five fucking seconds?"
"Ah, I see same with the others then?"
"Fuck off"
After a while Connor was finally able to hail a cab. They sat in silence but once again Connor had to ruin the peace.
"You know-"
"DUDE, OH MY GOD SHUT UP."
"Wow okay first of all, rude. Second, I will be ignoring that and all future interruptions."
Ramona decided she's far too drunk to argue with Connor in the back of a cab so she decided to just stay quiet.
"Okay, continuing. As your older brother, I feel like it's my responsibility to tell you that... I've been down that path too, Ramona. Dating a different person per week and barely remembering their names, I was that person once and... I only did it 'cause I was trying to escape what I was feeling. But then I realized that, no matter how much fun, how much I feel like I'm in control of something in that moment I still had to face what I truly feel. So I did, and it- it worked out man, and-"
Before he could continue a snore cut through his speech.
"Really? Ramona? Ram? Monaaa?" He said while poking her face.
"So rude."
Ramona woke up to the sound of her white noise machine, or maybe it was still Annie's? Her head was pounding and she knows she won't be able to open her blinds anytime soon. That was of course before Connor opened it for her.
"Rise and shine sis, It's a beautiful day." Connor exclaimed far too excitedly.
"Connor, I swear to God if you don't get out right now." She said while covering her eyes with both of her palms.
"I promise you right now you won't be saying that when you find out what I just did for you."
That caused Ramona to open her eyes.
"What the hell did you?"
"Woah, I do not like your tone." He raised his arms feigning innocence
"Seriously what did you do?" She's sat up now and getting ready to throw a pillow at him.
"Well if you insist on knowing, my dear little sister. I booked us a flight to Muskoka!"
"What..."
