The waiter jots that down, then asks Illi, “for you, sir?”
Illi starts to talk, sheepish and slightly uncomfortable, but Frank interrupts with his drink choice. He thought the waiter was talking to him, since he said “sir.” “Could I get a Diet Coke?” he asks, pointing to it on the menu. Frank then looks up after interrupting, shrinking a little from - in his mind - embarrassing himself in front of Illi. “Oh, sorry. Were you talking to her?”
The waiter soon realizes his mistake after Frank refers to Illi as a “her.” He clears his throat and corrects himself. “Ah, and for you, ma’am?”
