Chapter Text
Love At First Kiss
Cal
I walked through the school hallways with my friend, Jeremiah. We were coming from our History class when we saw a group of people. Curiosity took over and we went closer to find out what was happening.
The breath was knocked out of my lungs as I laid eyes upon who was at the centre of the attention.
Him.
I blinked rapidly, uselessly trying to clear my vision when our eyes met.
His shocked expression matched my own before it contorted into knowing smirk. Memories of the night before flooded back as I quickly made my way to the bathroom.
*FLASHBACK*
The music thumped through my ears as I walked through the front door. I was an averagely known guy and had been to plenty of parties before, but something about this one felt different. I greeted friends and drank my way through the night .I was sitting on the couch when a brunette in a red mini-dress came up to me. She introduced herself and began trying to flirt with me.
I was not in the mood so I politely declined and left to go to the backyard for fresh air. I wasn’t by any means gay. I could enjoy a girl once in a while, but I didn’t exactly enjoy it. More like I felt it was an obligation for a sixteen year old boy. Relationships just didn't really seem like all they were cracked up to be. I found a guy smoking, leaning on the fence when I finally made my way outside.
“Mind if I take a hit?”
“Nah”, he said as he passed the blunt.
We smoked for a bit in silence before I asked for his name.
“Mike. And you?”
“Calvin, but everyone calls me Cal,” he answered.
I didn't really know what to say after that, so I just stood and looked at him. The party music in the background turned slow and sultry as we stared into each other's eyes.
Maybe it was all the alcohol, but it seemed to me as though I was in a trance. I couldn’t look away, not even when Mike took a long drag of the blunt and blew a cloud of smoke in my face, all the while still making eye contact. The air turned electric when Mike moved a step closer to me. He slid his hand around my throat and to the nape of my neck, playing with the hair there.
I let out a nervous breath, my eyes involuntarily sliding down to his mouth before our lips met. It was a soft, careful kiss, testing the tides before diving deep. Mike grabbed my waist, pulling us impossibly closer. Our lips crashed against each other, tongues fighting for dominance as the kiss grew deeper, more desperate. Heat pooled low in my stomach and my hands ran through his hair, messing it up.
We reluctantly pulled apart when we heard the distinct wail of a siren not too far away. The disruption enabled me to come to my senses and I realized what I had just done.
I’d kissed a boy.
Me.
Cal.
I'm not gay. Right?
Why did I do that?
fuck.fuck.fuck.fuck.fuck!
“I have to go” I said hurriedly before dashing out onto the road and running straight home, leaving a dumbstruck Mike leaning against the fence, trying to recover.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
I stared at myself through the mirror, anxiety filling me as water droplets dripped into the sink from my freshly washed face. I was starting a new school right in the middle of the school year, in a completely new state because my mom had been transferred.
She worked as a marketer for a leading tech company that decided to branch out and have an office in a new state. Unfortunately for me, mom was appointed the manager and we were forced to relocate.
I heard my mom call my name and hurried downstairs for breakfast. I’d woken up a bit late, so I grabbed a waffle and held it with my teeth as I rushed to the bus.
I had chem first period and we were assigned project partners for our upcoming test. According to Ms.Brandy, it was gonna take up 40% of our grade, so it was pretty serious.
“Heyy! I'm Zoe. It's super nice to meet you! What's your name?” my partner said. She had long brunette hair and green eyes. Undoubtedly gorgeous.
“Mike, and nice to meet you too” I responded
“You’re new, aren't you? Well dont worry cause i’ll make sure you meet lots of people.” she exclaimed.
It was clear this girl , Zoe, was popular. She had all the characteristics. Beautiful, seemingly smart, tall, nice. I just hoped she didn’t draw me too much attention.
“Yeah that’d be great thanks” I said smiling.
“So after two weeks i expect your reports to be done–
*RINGGGGGG*
“Dont forget to start your research!” Ms. Brandy called out as we exited the room.
Turns out Zoe had A LOT of friends. ‘Cause as soon as we walked out, two girls came up to her asking who I was. She replied politely and introduced us. I then went with her to her locker because she’d told me we have the same class next and she would show me around.
Not even a minute passed before two more people –guys this time– came and spoke to her. They dapped me up and we chatted for a bit while Zoe got her stuff sorted out and talked with some more people who’d appeared.
Before I knew it, there were nearly 15 people around us, all holding conversations and trying to get to know me.
I got the sudden urge to look up from my conversations and that's when we locked eyes.
Cal.
He seemed as dumbfounded as me. I was totally not expecting to find him here of all places. Especially no after last night. I’d convinced myself I'd never see that boy again.
But here he was.
Standing right in front of me.
Looking at me with the same hazel eyes from the night before. Eyes that had prompted me to make a rash decision without even a smidge of a second thought.
I felt a smirk form as I thought of what I had in store for him
This was gonna be fun.
