Work Text:
Chloe is not one to pretend, she’s direct with everyone and everything. Straightforward about her thoughts, and feelings. Maybe almost a little too self aware. She can read between the lines but also wouldn't mind a explicit explanation. But when the need is to pretend, she can definitely do that.
The bar surrounding them is crowded with people, one of the times where Chloe wishes she had agreed to stayed home with Beca instead of putting her dancing shoes on. Beca did agree to come, even while denying it because deep down they both know she wants Chloe safe. They have tried to keep every outing buddy system friendly since moving to New York.
Beca stands back pressed against her while Chloe sips on her drink. No seats left on their side of them but Beca suggests she sit.
To her, Beca has the resemblance of a guard dog when they're out and about. A small yippy guard dog, but a guard dog no less. Her arms are crossed, her resting face is no more bitchy than normal. If they’re hands are intertwined Beca's hands are tight against her own.
It makes Chloe feel safe in a way. Beca is very possessive over items in her life. If anyone touched her computer, or god forbid used her headphones hands were thrown. To be acknowledged by Beca into her world, and held on as tightly it makes Chloe's heart squeeze.
And flip, and jump. But she tries to ignore those and label them squeezes.
“I didn’t realize how packed it was going to be in here tonight.”
“Yep.” Beca leans her head back against Chloe’s arm, eyes looking up at her. “Should’ve stayed home in bed, where we can finish Veep.”
Chloe chuckles. “We’ll go back and finish. I wasted fifteen bucks on this Vodka Coke I’m going to finish it.”
Beca lets out a heavy dramatic sigh, and Chloe just giggles.
Before Chloe can see exactly what happening, Beca’s moving closer. Hand placed on the mid point of her thigh near where the skirt begins, and she’s leaning back against the bar to be slotted next to her. Chloe’s breath hitches at the cold hand and the feeling of someone right behind her.
She isn’t even able to turn before a younger brunette guy comes into her field of vision, leaning against the other side of her body. A mustache on his upper lip, and hair that falls just below his ears. “I saw you sitting across the bar, and wanted to say you looked beautiful.”
He’s just a midge taller than her on the bar stool, so she sits up to even them out and gives him a small reserved smile. “Thanks.”
She shifts her eyes back at Beca, glaring daggers at the man who hasn't left yet before shifting her eyes up at the redhead. Swirling dark blue and heavy under the bad lighting of the bar but calming in a way. Beca gives a small smile.
“I was wondering if I could get you a drink?”
The ask is meek, and it makes Chloe cringe internally. She turns, and declines his offer shaking the full glass she already has. “I’m okay, thanks.”
Beca takes a swig of her beer, her fingers tapping against her thigh. Not able to fall back into conversation without the hawk waiting for another worm to chew on.
“So are you waiting for someone?”
Chloe rolls her eyes, looking back at the man. “No, just sitting here with my friend.”
“Yeah me too.” He smiles, hands clasped on the table. “He’s over there that’s Justin, and I’m Kai.”
Chloe nods once, muttering a cool. She sips on her drink, eyes darting from him to Beca. Beca has her back straighter and she’s waiting for Chloe to signal her uncomfortably and get them to leave. She can feel it in the way Beca taps against her, antsy and harsh.
“What are you drinking?”
Oh my god. “Vodka and Coke.”
“Oh cool, that sounds good actually. I want one.” He tries to signal the bartender, frat flicking with his arm in the air.
Chloe leans over to whisper into Beca’s ear. “Just play along.”
“With what?” Beca whispers loudly, but Chloe is already moving away. She watches the man sip the drink, the movement in his face and the disdain for what’s in the glass.
“No good Justin?” Chloe makes a dramatic pout ask she asks, and Justin or Kai grab the gesture and runs with it. A bright smile on his face.
“No it’s fine, and I’m Kai—”
Chloe doesn’t hear what he says next because she’s already leaning down and grabbing Beca’s collar to connect their lips. Beca yelps out of shock, eyes wide before slamming shut and leaning into the mess Chloe drags on.
She moves herself closer, jutting her hips on the seat and Beca’s hand grips the side of her thigh softly. For balance of herself or maybe to make sure Chloe doesn’t fall off the seat. Chloe keens at the thought of either being the reason.
In her head, she imagined this moment as a soft kiss that ended quickly, a peck. But the man behind her still can be felt, and she won't slow until he is fully gone.
Turning her head to deepen the kiss, Beca lets out a gasp into the space it created. For air, or maybe more shock. Only making it easier for Chloe to smirk, and run her teeth along her bottom lip.
Chloe twists her hand to wrap around the half up hairstyle Beca had set up perfectly. Briefly the thought of Beca being upset that it was ruined upsets her, and it runs through her like a wave of indisputable sadness. But it quickly turns into arousal when she digs her teeth into plump bruising lips and a sound erupts.
Beca whimpers, high pitched and whiny into her mouth. She sucks on the bottom lip, easing the pain and pulls Beca in closer to kiss her soundly. A wordless apology that she attempts to convey.
It’s taken with a smile, and her stomach flips when she feels Becas hand start to move higher and their tongues grazing against each other. All Beca, Beca pushing them further into a yarn of thread that keeps unwinding in Chloe’s hands. Tugged and pulled almost out of reach.
Before Chloe can debate the worry that begins to spring into her bloodstream. The sound of a bar stool scrapping the wooden floor barely pierces through the blood rushing through her head. The wood tips, then hits the floor loudly and it startles her.
Chloe pulls away, her hand so tight around Becas collar she’s wondering how she still has air. Her head whips around to the now empty stool, drink left half full.
She looks back at Beca, who is chugging back her beer with bright red cheeks and mused hair. Chloe wants to laugh, but also wonders how much Beca was okay with that.
Beca is not her show goat, that has never happened before and she doesn’t want her to think that it’s all she was going for. A playful act.
Chloe looks at her finished drink, and watches Beca set down her beer. “Beca…”
“Let's get out of here.” Her voice is horse, and low, and she avoids eye contact with Chloe while setting down a twenty and a five on the bar counter. Turning on her heel and disappearing into the crowd.
Chloe watched it happen, her feet stuck to the floor while she tries to stop her stomach from sinking. Shit.
