Yuki Tsunoda’s Restaurant!

Summary:

+Media at Yuki’s restaurant while a reserve driver too!

Yuki’s opening his new restaurant following his boot from the Second Red Bull Seat™️ and Red Bull were invited to film media on the first week of opening on the build up to Suzuka. (Yuki’s getting paid for this!)

Or: Basically Yuki teaching Max and Isack (and me actually, because I searched it up just for this fic!) how to make Sukiyaki at his restaurant.

(Lots of inaccuracies because Author can’t cook, so sorry in advance!)

Notes:

Hihi I’m back <3 I’ve said it like twice already but again I CAN’T COOK OR MAKE SUKIYAKI IRL so if anyone wants to give me constructive criticism I’d appreciate it! Anywho, I hope you enjoy this short oneshot!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

🏎️ (This is car if you haven’t read my last F1 fic, he’s my time skips, say hi again car!)

“Hi, I’m Yuki Tsunoda, welcome to my restaurant!”
Yuki smiled, as the camera panned over to show the entirety of his building.

He used a lot of his F1 salary he saved over the years racing for AlphaTauri, VCARB and Red Bull to refurbish and buy a basically abandoned building on the near the top of a quiet mountain in Japan, alongside his reserve driver salary. He honestly doesn’t know why he was allowed to even launch his restaurant while having a contract, but he has a sneaking suspicion that it had something to do with more content (which equaled more money).

It was attractive to him when he was looking at locations, because of its calm nature and the sound of the water running alongside it made it the perfect place, in Yuki’s opinion. It was a no brainer, considering his considerably loud lifestyle for the past few years so far.

“Thanks for inviting us to your new restaurant Yuki!”
Said Isack, as the cameras panned back over to the trio of Max, Isack and Yuki.

“It’s great to have you guys here!”
Yuki replied. He was wearing a brown apron and a chef’s hat now, which was a bit of a strange sight to fans watching, and honestly to Max and Isack since they were so used to seeing him in a F1 shirt.

“The place looks great, Yuki, mind showing us around?”
Max agreed with Isack, making a slight show of looking around the mountain they were on, for the cameras.

“Not at all! Let’s go inside, shall we?”

🏎️

“So, Yuki, what are we making today?”
Isack asked curiously.

“Well first, you’re both going to need a uniform.”
Yuki smiled with a glint in his eyes.

“Uniform?

“Yep!”
Yuki snapped his fingers and (for the viewers anyway), Max and Isack were both in Yuki’s restaurant’s apron and hat.

“Woah!”

“Perfect, now you’re dressed the part! We’re going to be making sukiyaki, one of my favourite Japanese dishes!”

“Loud and clear Yuki!”

🏎️

The screen played a short cutscene of Yuki’s logo and when it was pulled away, the counter that Yuki, Max and Isack were standing behind, now had a spread of different ingredients across the dark granite.

“So first, we’ll be mixing the sauce together, and lucky for you guys, I’ve already prepared everything into the correct portions.”
Yuki said as he placed the ingredients in front of Isack and Max respectively.

“Thanks Yuki, I would definitely make a big mess.”
Isack laughed, inspecting the ingredients.

“Okay, so here we have sake, soy sauce, brown sugar and mirin, which is a type of rice wine in Japanese cooking. You guys can put them all in the saucepan to let it boil until the sugar is dissolved and meanwhile, you guys can have a go at slicing the beef!”

“Yikes, hey guys, can I get those uhh knife cutting safety gloves? Thanks.”

🏎️

“Okay, so holding the knife, you take two fingers and sort of pinch the top of the blade, yeah like that.”
Yuki leaned over to fix Max and Isack’s hand on the knife. Yuki said that the gloves were unnecessary, in which Max replied…

“I’m a little concerned on how much trust you’re putting into us.”

Which Yuki also just waved off.
“Nahh… you’ll be fine… ANYWAY! So keep your fingers curled and don’t force the knife into meat, but gently let the knife glide through like so.”

🏎️

“Now that we have all of our ingredients, let’s heat the pan that already has olive oil in, and start with cooking the meat first and adding the tofu.”

On the other sides of Yuki, Max’s beef looked questionably thin and thick at the same time, while Isack’s actually looked quite good despite his earlier concerns.

“…then let’s add the onion and our sukiyaki sauce we prepared earlier.”

“Sh- [bleeped out by Red Bull’s editor], Yuki, is the sauce supposed to splatter like that?!”

“Sh- [also bleeped out by editor]! Isack was that on high heat!?-“

🏎️ [Technical difficulties, please stand by!]

“Ehem. We had some minor issues that have now been resolved. As you were saying Yuki?”
Max laughed awkwardly as he gestured to Yuki again to continue. Isack now had sauce in his pan that was NOT spluttering, because it was indeed, not supposed to splatter like that.

“Yes, uh… where did we get to? Right, we’ll add our enoki and shiitake mushrooms in with the cabbage and noodles too. And then put the lid on it to let it simmer for a few minutes.”

🏎️

Steam filled Yuki’s restaurant as the three of them lifted the lids, the aroma filling the room.

“Oh wow, that smells great!”

Yuki passed around small bowls with raw egg in it for them to try their sukiyaki they made.
“Right? It gives off such a delicious aroma doesn’t it? Usually, sukiyaki is served by dipping it in raw egg in Japan. Tell me what you guys think?”

Dipping some of the beef into the egg, Max nodded in approval.

“Oh wow, that really is good!”

“Yeah this is amazing, can you cook for me everyday, Yuki?”
Isack joked.

“You can come to my restaurant anytime, Isack.”
Yuki replied, giving him an opening to smoothly end the video with more self advertising.

“While Max and Isack are enjoying their food, don’t forget to visit my restaurant if you guys ever are in Japan, the website is the link in the description under this video so check it out after watching the video, I can’t wait to see everyone that comes to support me! And thanks for coming, Max and Isack, good luck for the race on Sunday!”

“Thank you so much for the food Yuki, it was great!”
Isack gave him a thumbs up as he swallowed his bite.

“Yeah, that’s for inviting us over, maybe we should hold our drivers’ dinner at your restaurant this year.”

“Oh yeah? Who’s paying?
Yuki grinned.

🏎️ (Extra off camera!)

“Oh by the way, do you guys also want a bite after filming all day? There should be enough seats.”
Yuki offered the team as they were packing up the equipment.

Later that day on the official Red Bull F1 team’s instagram, a picture of Yuki, Max, Isack and the Red Bull staff that were filming earlier in the day surfaced.

“Thanks @YukiTsunoda for sorting out the team’s dinner! Look out for Chef Yuki on YT soon! 👀”

Notes:

Also Yuki back on the grid for the Dutch GP this weekend made me gasp out loud! I hope Isack gets better though and can race again soon!

Edit: Also I was doing some good old overthinking and do you guys like the car emoji timeskip? I know some people really hate seeing emojis so I could change it to just a dash or emoticon?
