Summary
This summer, Lila Cross has a plan: make enough money to buy a car and a new surfboard, spend every spare second with her friends, and build something for herself beyond a trailer on the Cut and the drug-dealing brother she loves fiercely, even if Barry has always taken care of her the best way he knows how.
Then she meets Rafe Cameron. Rafe is unstable, possessive, angry and dangerous. She should stay away from him.
Instead, something about him fits, because damaged people don’t always realise where they’re damaged until they meet someone who fits perfectly into the broken places.
Rafe needs someone who will choose him, soothe him, stay when everyone else walks away. Lila has spent her whole life taking care of people and secretly aches to be needed so completely that she becomes indispensable—to belong to someone enough that, for once, she can stop carrying everything alone.
What begins as a secret summer fling becomes consuming, obsessive love, leaving Lila caught between the Pogues who have always been her family and the boy who makes being possessed feel dangerously close to being safe.
Or: Lila Cross wanted a car and a new surfboard. She got Rafe Cameron instead.
