꒰ Amortentia ꒱

Summary:

You've recently learned how to brew Amortentia in Potions class, but unfortunately your first attempt wasn't the best. You decide to redeem yourself by trying to make it again, with the help of Hermione in the Gryffindor common room. The potion is successful, but that means you'll finally be able to find out what Amortentia smells like for you. You inhale deeply above the cauldron and smell… ❤︎

Work Text:

Your eyes narrow as you look from the paper to the bubbling cauldron.

"Okay, I think I've put in all of the ingredients. You can do the mixing part, pretty sure that's what I got wrong last time," you sigh.

Hermione finishes scolding Ron about how poorly he did in Transfiguration, before she overtakes by grabbing the stirring rod and making the correct circular motions.

You sit in the Gryffindor common room, along with a few of your housemates. You stretch your palms to face the fireplace in an attempt to warm up a bit. As you do so, you look to your right to see Fred relaxing on the closest sofa. This honestly surprises you, since you would usually find him in conversation with Lee Jordan, talking about some new stunt they're trying to pull off.

Last week in Potions you learned about how to properly brew Amortentia. You've known about it in your younger years, but were afraid to mess it up. Even when you were taught, you didn't do the potion justice, so you decided to ask Hermione to help you make it outside of class.

You weren't exactly sure what you would use the love potion for, since you knew the dangers of it. You mostly wanted to brew it because you weren't able to discern the fragrance it emitted during class.

Everyone was aware that the Amortentia would smell like what attracts you, or rather, who you're interested in.

You didn't have a specific person in mind, although you couldn't take your eyes off of Fred as you were thinking about the potion.

Ron interrupts your thoughts, "It looks done to me," he says as he points at the cauldron.

"Your education looks done to me, Ron," Hermione smirks.

Ron playfully shoves Hermione as he turns to ask you and her, "What do you guys smell?"

Fred's head jolts up.

Hermione leans down before the cauldron and inhales the concoctions fumes.

"I smell… fresh cut grass and," Hermione pauses sharply, "uhm- nevermind…"

Ron looks puzzled, but you know why she stopped talking. You hope they'll figure out what they feel for each other soon.

Hermione tries to prevent Ron from inquiring further about what the Amortentia smelled like by asking you the same question.

You scoot closer towards the edge of your seat as you bring your face down to breathe in the potion. This time, it doesn't smell like nothing with a hint of something rotting.

The beautiful scent hits your nostrils immediately as you inhale. It's nostalgic and soothing. The aroma is of sweet cinnamon, fresh wood, and broom wax. You also catch a whiff of someone's cologne. These scents only fit one person you know of… Fred.

Your heart speeds up its rhythm as you realize what all those times you spent with Fred meant to you. All those times when you would look at him longer than you should. All those times you laughed at his jokes and pranks more than you should. All those times you could easily differentiate him from his twin. All those times his eyes lit up when you did these things.

You begin to open your mouth to describe what you smelled before you stop yourself just as quickly. Ron's right there, and that's his brother!

"Oh uhm- I don't think it worked," you glance at Hermione who looks disappointed, "not that it's your fault, you helped me a ton! But I err- think it's something with me…" you trail off.

Hermione and Ron look at you with concern and pinched eyebrows.

"Are you sure?" asks Hermione, "we brewed it perfectly."

"Blimey… maybe you're a rare case," says Ron with a triumphed look in his eyes, "Amortentia might just not work for you."

"Oh, don't be stupid Ronald! Amortentia doesn't lie or not work, especially when it's brewed perfectly!" Hermione exclaims as she jumps up.

Ron appears to regret his words as he hurries to where Hermione is now pacing on the other side of the large common room.

The sofas and chairs near the fireplace are now empty, only you and Fred are still left seated. You suddenly feel a weight next to you. You look up to see Fred eyeing the Amortentia, still in its cauldron. He turns to you the second he feels your gaze on him.

"So," he says as his lips curl into a smile, "Why couldn't we have the pleasure of knowing what the Amortentia smelled like for you?"

You won't let him have his dose of fun by teasing you.

"Because Fred, it smelled like nothing again. Why do you care?"

Fred's smile widens as his hand makes its way onto your thigh, "You sure?"

Your breath hitches as he gives your thigh a gentle but bold squeeze.

"Cause I wanted to tell you what it smelled like for me," Fred says as he bends down to the cauldron.

You hold your breath as he inhales.

"Hmm… passion fruit, sandalwood, and tangerine. Sound familiar?"

You. For Fred, the Amortentia smelt of you.

Your heart feels like it'll rip through your skin, but you decide that you don't have much to lose.

"Fred. For me it uhm- smelled of cinnamon, broom wax, and… your cologne."

Fred's eyes widen slightly, before he drops his head to hide the flushed skin on his cheekbones.

"That's good to hear," he chuckles, "I was gonna ask you later but, I guess now's the right time."

He leans in before continuing, "Will you… be my girlfriend? I felt this way about you for a while now."

What?

A wave of heat burns through your whole body. You feel dizzy, yet you're not moving at all.

You yank Fred by his uniform collar before crashing your lips onto his. His body responds immediately as his hands move to the small of your back, and his lips move in unison with yours. All of the tension that was left in your bodies instantly disappears.

You pull away, trying to catch your breath. Fred stares at you with hazy eyes, before kissing you again.

"You know, you drive me crazy, even without the Amortentia," he whispers as he wraps his arms tighter around you.
