"Subjugation," Ways of relinquishing your will.

Summary:

"There are millions of viewers online that love me, and that's all I'll ever nee-" Div's voice sharply cuts out. He finally recognized what he had been conveying.

A long, unsettling silence rang through the three close friends.

Pika and Saturn would stare, disbelief clear on their faces. Even through every wrong doing Div had ever done, never in their life had they thought he'd say anything close to what he had spilled out.

"What about us..?" The three words asked by Pika, simple and short. Letters that combined together to form such a comprehensible sentence. But in that moment, it was a sentence Div just couldn't understand.

OR

Div has to go through a challenge called, "Do what ever people say for 24 hours." This weird topic helps reveal a fairly off-putting side about Div's(Not so good) relationship with his cameraman.

Will probably change title but this is fine for now...

Chapter 1: A moth will follow what it thinks is light.

Notes:

Yoooo... Making this chapter was totally not the reason it's taken a hot second to upload on my other fic ahahahaha

First things first!! The general story/plot was made nut just by me but with a user on TikTok^ ^ Basically a collaboration kinda Lmao
All of the actual writing is me but they definetly helped a LOT with brainstorming and developing the plot <3

ALSO I know ur reading this, if u want me to list ur AO3 @ just dm me and I'll do it immediately

ALSO ALSO!! Guys this chapter is still iffy but I promise the plot is fairly good... (Can't say the same for my writing/grammar...)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The Minecraft sun slowly sets, a yellow glow emitting through the windows of a certain monochromatic YouTuber. Its lighting is fully designed to entrance any normal person, capture them in a trance of overwhelming beauty; at least for a moment. Completely built to let them acknowledge the random good in nature.

It would linger through every piece of cloth on his bed, shine through every strand of fabric in his curtains, and let its energy be absorbed into every item that it touched.

Div however, paid no mind to this natural ambiance. Laying flat on the solid floor of his room; out of reach from the shining yellowish orange glow. Why had he not just opt to be on his bed? Good question.

He held his phone above his face, completely focused on his YouTube channel that was displayed within. Staying in such a pose brought big risk to his face, but it was worth the comfort as he scrolled through his videos.

He had already spent god knows how long recording his next idea, but inspiration was already running low. After all, the Cameraman had already made him do probably every possible thing ever known to man.

From pranks and challenges, stupid experiments and then even stupider click-baits.

He sighs in inevitable defeat. He supposed it was destined for any great content creator to go through this situation.

Click. Click.

Huh?

Div's phone would suddenly start to scroll up again, quick and automatic. It disrupted his moment of self-pity—though he was less irritated and more curious about what was happening. Div's hands remained unused, the YouTube app would appear go into the search bar as though someone else was using it.

As words typed onto the screen, he realized what was happening. "Oh my God, Editor." He sighed as he acknowledged their presence, now sounding much more annoyed. Apparently, this was a far too common occurrence. "You know you can just exit flashback mode to actually talk to me right?"

The 'Editor' figure seems to completely ignore him and carried on with searching something up.

"Dooooo whateverrrr…" Div would slowly read along as the words appeared on screen. After the first couple of words, he gave up entirely and just waited for the person to finish.

Once the final letters had been typed, he quickly shook his head in an overly excessive manner. "Oh hell no man, I'm not doing that!" Politely shooting down the idea, to which he continues to defend why, "Doesn't that literally go against everything we build my channel on??"

"People like a change in pace Div." An audible voice would very suddenly appear, as Div looked up from the floor, it seems to be the Editor. "Something new from our style of content, something that would make the viewers go, 'How is he gonna manage that?'" Their voice stayed in a calm mid-tone, forever in a professional manner that shook Div's nerves.

"Broooo." He complains, setting his phone down next to his head. In a mix of simple exhaustion and visual protest, he slides his hands down his face. Editor always loved to force Div through challenges he didn't want to do most. He couldn't lie, unfortunately those videos were always the ones with most views… but being forced to 'do whatever people want'?? Even if only for 24 hours, it sent shivers down his spine what people could make him do in that time span.

"No bro, submission like that is for desperate losers. And I'm not that desperate." He would continue to argue.

"That's funny coming from you." Editor quickly remarks, a small smirk arising from their mouth.

"Shut up." Div sat up, responding just as fast, "We don't talk about that video." He glares at them, half joking but mainly just embarrassed to be reminded of such.

They only shrug in response.

"Div, all I'm saying is that you'll get a lot of views. Like a ton." The Editor follows up. When Div said nothing to this, they thought for a moment before following it up with, "Aaaaaand… If you act nice enough, people might actually change to like you."

Now—Div would never actually admit it—but those last words definitely made him more intrigued.

Unfortunately, it was very true that people disliked him. Actually, understatement—everyone on the server despised him. Which wasn't even fair because there were people he hadn't even met yet and they STILL hated him?? It was all because he had made a couple people only 'slightly' mad, and then they spread rumors about him!

Completely not his fault by the way!!

With all of that said, it wasn't his fault that people were all just mean; so then why would it be his problem?

Still sensing his hesitance, the editor talked once again, "Come on man, no hard feelings but it won't even be that hard."

Thinking hard once more—weighing in the pros and cons—he hums in thought.

"Well… Augh." He was way too tired for this crap. Honestly, couldn't they just wait to think of what to do tomorrow? Like- They'd already recorded fo-

Say, how long had he recorded his last session?

Curiosity peaked—and also somewhat hoping that maybe its content would be enough to drag along 2 videos worth at least—he exits the YouTube app to check.

Let's see, time recordedddd anddd… He monologues to himself, his eyes widened in shock when he finally sees the number.

WHA- 8 hours??

Div stared at the screen, rubbing his eyes for a moment as if thinking it was all the trick of the eye. Yes, it wasn't unusual for him to record his life as he walked around in game, but 8 hours of nonstop recording with no rests in between was probably not a good idea. For the sake of his health yeah, but more so his poor storage space!

Why hadn't Pika even thought to notify- oh wait, he probably didn't even realize Div was recording.

"Oh well, no wonder you're tired." The Editor cut in, not really surprised because he was the one who recorded the entire time anyway. Seeing that Div would probably be over exhausted, he slyly takes the opportunity. "I mean, if u do my video idea, we'd probably get a lot of views." He repeats, but also adds something new, "Probably enough views for you to take a long break too."

After a long pause Div sighs, he hated how true the Editor's words appeared to be. He really should take that break shouldn't he?

"Fine," He rumbled, "But tell me the rules before I actually agree."

"...And cut that damn camera!"

Notes:

I might change the title or what not but that's a problem for another day...

ALSO I suck at staying consistent when it comes to past/present/future tense in my writing so like ignore that really...

Just mainly, stay tuned~!! ^ ^
