Work Text:

It had been 2 weeks since Peter had been rescued from the small town in Russia. Since then Thor had returned to Asgard and Bruce left for Europe to do some medical research. Peter was settling into living fully at the tower, he was learning to live without May. It was hard and not without breakdowns, but Peter was recovering - slowly but steadily. Today Tony had allowed Peter to train with the team for the first time in what felt like forever. Everyone was gathered in the gym doing stretches and warming up. Peter was using in new-found range of movement to fully stretch out his body, Clint and Sam were looking at him like some zoo animal but to be fair he did have his leg against his head. Whilst the men were ogling at him, Nat walked in and started copying his stretches. "There's two of them" Clint 'whispered' to Sam. Only Nat knew the extent of his training in the red room as a former graduate herself. Steve paired everyone up for sparring. Peter ended up with Tony which would have been fine pre-Hydra but know it seemed laughable, especially as Tony didn't even have his suit on. Tony lasted 6 seconds flat which was generous as Peter was toying with him for the first 5 seconds. "Buggering Christ Peter, at least give me a chance" Tony laughed from the floor. Tony and Peter continued to spar 5 more times before Tony gave up as he could never last more than 10 seconds. Sam and Clint finished sparring and came up to Peter, "What do you say champ, 2 v 1?" Asked Clint. "Sure!" Peter smiled. Sam through the first punch, it was sloppy. Peter easily deflected and swiped his leg leading to Sam being on the floor extremely winded. Clint looked nervously at Peter but came forward anyway with a fake to the left and then a punch from the right but Peter saw through the fake instantly and ducked under the punch. He spun around Clint - smiling and laughing as Clint fell forwards. Sam got up now and Peter decided that this was his time to shine. Sam came running forward so peter jumped feet forward at Sam, into a back hand spring and a somersault. Clint was behind him but Peter knew and jumped over Clint and swiped his legs. Clint and Sam were both on the floor with no injuries except a bruised ego. Tony was snickering in the background and Nat was watching intently. Nat walked up to Peter, "Spider v Spider?", "Okay" Peter didn't know if he'd be able to win against Nat, she had the same training after all. Nat didn't hesitate and dove straight in with a strike for the chest which Peter deflected. Nat kept striking, never leaving herself open. Peter decided he'd had enough and jumped straight over Nat, she spun round quickly intending to catch him on his landing but it was perfect. Peter began the offence, striking again and again. Peter never laced any of his strength into it though - he didn't want to hurt her. Peter did an average person hard hit and Nat was pushed back. Peter smiled but Nat had a burning fire in her eyes, her legs twitched as she ran forward and her heels left the floor, Peter slid down onto the floor as Nat jumped upwards - trying to wrap her legs around his neck to bring him down. As Nat was above Peter he reached for her shoulders, twisted himself upwards and brought Nat to the ground beneath his firm grip. The sound of her being pushed to the ground echoed through the large training room. It brought Peter back to reality and when he looked around he saw that everyone was staring at the two. Peter grimaced to himself at the attention. "Good job Маленький Паучок" ("Little Spider") Said Nat who was getting up from the floor. Everyone looked stunned, no one could ever beat Nat. Not even the super soldiers - black widows knew how to defeat people twice their size by redirecting the blows meant for them back on their opposition.

Tony stood up and clapped slowly, "Looks like we have a new champion!" Tony proudly smiled from the edge of the room. Peter blushed to himself, he was not a fan of the attention.

----------- 3 days later--------

Since Peter proved himself in training, Tony had allowed him to return to Spider-Manning and to do missions. People cheered seeing their local super hero return to action, news outlets (even the Daily Bugle) celebrated his return. It warmed Peter's heart seeing people happy to see him. Banners hung out of windows displaying the spider emblem. But only after 2 days of patrol something happened, typical Parker luck. A giant robot came tearing through Manhattan and Peter was the first one at the scene. "Karen, alert avengers to the threat", "Avengers alerted, ETA 5 minutes" Karen told him. "Right then, gotta keep him distracted for 5 minutes" Peter muttered to himself. Peter began wrapping up the giant's feet hopping to execute the AT-AT tactic he used on Scott at the airport, however that didn't last long as it kept braking the strands. Peter realised he couldn't do anything so he changed the plan to get any civilians in the block evacuated. Peter did this in 2 minutes flat and even saved a family in a car from being trampled on by the robot. Peter could hear the Iron Man thrusters in the background, he looked up to wave at Tony but in his distracted state the Robot wacked his arms outwards and sent Peter flying through a window of a skyscraper where he proceeded to hit his head against a support beam. Peter stayed down, dazed by the hit and the throbbing of his head. "Kid, you alright?" Tony asked on the comms worriedly, "I'm fine Mr Stark" Peter responded, "Funnily enough kid I don't believe you" Despite the joking statement, Tony still sounded worried. Peter rose back up, weakness wasn't permitted in the red room. He knew that and wasn't going to start slacking now that he'd left. Peter made a running start and launched himself out the window straight at the robot that Sam and Tony were flying round and assessing. The non-flyers were evacuating civilians as the robot got closer to the heart of New York. Clint was perched on a rooftop but his arrows were useless against the robot's hard outer shell. Peter landed on the robots head and started banging in one of it's eye sockets, the blue metal started denting. "Kid whatever your doing stop" Tony said sternly. Peter didn't stop but kept pounding until the metal broke and he shuffled into the robot. "PETER!" Shouted Tony. "Tony what's going on? We need to stop this robot ASAP" Nat chimed in on the comms from the ground where she was helping evacuate the ever growing perimeter as the large robot kept ploughing through the city. "The kid decided to go inside the robot" Tony deadpanned. "WHAT?!" And various other statements were heard across the comms. It reminded Peter of the time he was thrown out the window at the tower. "I'm fine, it's quite interesting actually the inner workings of the thing", "Do you think you can deactivate it from inside it Peter?" Asked Steve. "Yeah I definitely can" Peter sounded sure of himself which was the only reason Tony didn't protest. Peter found some wires which connected to the main circuitry of the robot's core. Peter started disconnecting them, one after the other - he knew he might get electrocuted but it would be worth it if he saved lives. Peter didn't get electrocuted but he forgot one important thing, the robot would fall. Peter was quite high up in the robot, around it's neck but there was no way he could get out in time. The heaviness of the robot make the velocity of the fall quick and a harsh landing. Peter was banged around inside until he hit his head hard again and passed out. "-ETER, PETER ANSWER ME!" Tony's screams woke him up. There was a dampness around his head but Peter ignored it. He got up and army crawled to the eye socket where he entered. Outside Tony was there banging on the metal surrounded by the red of the team. When Tony saw Peter get out of the robot he ran over and bear hugged Peter. "I thought I lost you again" Tony whispered into Peter's ear. Tony pulled out of the hug but horror replaced his relief as he realised the blood on his hands. "Peter where are you hurt?" Tony looked helplessly at Peter. "We need to get to medbay now!" Tony ordered at everyone. Tony tried to grab Peter's arm to guide him to the Quinjet but Peter suddenly dropped to the floor, lightheaded and on the verge of unconsciousness. "STEVE!" Steve turned around and scooped Peter up and ran to the Quinjet with him.

Once on the Quinjet, Peter was placed in a cot and Clint promptly took off for the Tower, it was only a quick ride but Tony was having difficulty keeping Peter awake. He obviously had a head wound as after taking the mask off, blood pooled out the back of his head. Tony knew head wounds bled a lot but surely not this much? Sam kept pressure on his head whilst Tony kept talking to Peter to keep him awake. That was until about 30 seconds from landing Peter's eyes fluttered shut, "Peter!" Tony started lightly tapping his cheeks but he wouldn't wake. Tony looked up to Sam, but Sam looked just as unsure as for what to do. "Clint we needed to be in medbay yesterday!" Tony shouted out. When the Quinjet finally landed, Helen and her team were waiting at the hangar with a gurney. They took Peter and hurriedly left for medbay. Tony was hot on their heals but couldn't go into the ICU when they entered. He was held back by a nurse. Pepper came running in with the team and Tony launched himself into a hug with her. She stroked his hair and muttered reassurances to him. Everyone took a seat and waited in the waiting room for hours. Tony was loosing it, he kept asking for updated but no one had any information. Tony was about to storm through but Helen walked through after 3 hours, "I'm sorry no ones been out here with any news but I'd like to tell you that he's stable and will make a full recovery" An immense weight lifted off of Tony and he let out a breath he didn't now that he was holding in. He rubbed his face, "He has a pretty severe concussion that I would be worried about if he wasn't enhanced, we've deemed it safe for him to sleep but we need to keep him in for observation. Tony and Pepper you can go see him in his usual room but try not to wake him, he'll have a pretty severe headache if he wakes up now" Tony nodded and walked hurriedly to Peter's 'usual' room which thinking about it was worrying that he had one. Pepper was behind him but struggled to keep up to Tony's fast pace. Tony rounded the corner at Peter's doorway and saw him lying there, motionless in the bed. He had a few wires coming off of him, but it didn't look too bad besides the bandaged head. Tony took his place at Peter's bedside at the right and Pepper took the left. They sat there for a few hours, chatting between themselves. Some of the avengers popped in to give Tony and Pepper supplies but other than that no one disturbed their little bubble.

When Peter awoke, the lights were blinding and his head felt like it was being hacked away by an axe. Peter felt a course hand in his and new exactly who was at his bedside. "Mr Stark" Peter said blearily. Tony awoke with a jolt to Peter's voice, "Hey 'Roos, how's that head of yours" Tony smiled. "Pounding me" Peter grimaced, "I'll get Cho in her to give you the good stuff" Peter nodded at that. Helen came and the pain subsided, she was honestly a miracle worker. Throughout the next few days the team popped in and kept Peter company but one constant was Tony who was always there by his side.
