Work Text:
The sun has fled beneath the horizon an hour ago leaving most of the city to slumber while the rest keeps moving. The city outside the small office window is lit up in a kaleidoscope of technicolors. Faint music rumbles through the glass. People walk by, most heading to some bar or club.
Eijirou gazes out of the window at the lit up, bustling city until a text interrupts his quiet musings. He checks it and curses, looking back at his crowded desk. Almost everything loose in his office is boxed up already. The desk is the last thing he needs to clean. He strides over and picks up what takes up the most space, the computer set up. He wraps everything with bubble wrap and sets it down carefully into a box. Eijirou tapes it shut and focuses on a few miscellaneous objects. He scoops up his mug of pens and a couple of stress balls before shoving them into another box.
Then, Eijirou turns back to all the picture frames lining his desk, the only thing left. His hand hovers over a large picture frame. His eyes soften as he gazes at the photo of him and Katsuki. It was one he took on top of Mt. Fuji when they hiked up there last year. A rare, bright smile graces Katsuki’s face. A similar one shines on Eijirou’s face, as well. He still remembers how hard his cheeks hurt. Eijirou feels a similar ache as he smiles at the happiest day of his life, so far at least.
His door creaks open, and Eijirou’s smile turns sheepish as Katsuki enters. He wasted too much time loitering around instead of clearing everything out. Katsuki just sighs like he expected this, which he probably did, and helps him.
He ignores the large frame as he wraps up and boxes the smaller ones, featuring more pictures of them and a few of their friends. Eijirou picks up the hiking picture and reaches for some bubble wrap to secure it. Katsuki finally mentions it:
“How long did you stare at that? It’s late enough as it is.”
Eijirou chuckles and points out, “I’m not the one who took an evening patrol.”
Katsuki rolls his eyes and snatches the picture out of his hand, packing it away. They stack some boxes to carry down. Eijirou looks around fondly one more time at the place he spent building up for four years. It may have been a cramped little place, but it was his. Now though…
“I could have just moved here if you didn’t want to leave,” Katsuki stated, catching his expression.
Eijirou knows he would have and still would if Eijirou asked. He shakes his head and smiles reassuringly. “It’s fine. Besides, your agency is way nicer anyway.”
Eijirou walks out, and Katsuki follows. As they exit the building and head to Katsuki’s car, Katsuki scoffs, and sarcastically says, “I’m sure it has nothing to do with the Korean BBQ joint across the street.”
“Of course not!” Eijirou cheerfully lies.
The boxes are placed safely into the back seat. Katsuki drives them over to drop Eijirou’s stuff off at their agency. Happiness and anticipation fill him at the thought. By now, Eijirou knows he’s ready for it. He has enough experience running his own to be on equal footing with his partner.
Eijirou thinks about that picture. Partners in more ways than one. After Katsuki parks and faces him, Eijirou leans over to firmly kiss him. He tries to put all his overflowing emotions into it. After making out for a while, Katsuki eventually pulls back, a peaceful expression on his face. He opens his door and smiles softly back at Eijirou.
“Come on. Let’s get this shit moved in.” His smile shifts into a teasing smirk. “If it doesn’t take too long, we can maybe go get some barbecue.”
Eijirou rushes out of the car, slamming his door shut. Katsuki yells at him for that, but he ignores it as he grabs all the boxes out of the back, taking a bit more care when shutting the door. He stumbles towards where he thinks the entrance is as he tries to balance the teetering tower. Katsuki scolds him some more, but he does lift off enough boxes to clear Eijirou’s view. Eijirou starts to thank him when Katsuki challenges him to a race, already getting a running start, the bastard.
Now Eijirou yells at him, running to catch up. Adrenaline and serotonin pump through him as he chases after his cackling fiancé, almost closing in. Their feet thud on the stairs, keeping pace with his thumping heart. They both enter the door to Eijirou’s new office at the same time, shoulders bumping and legs tangling. They crash to the floor and lay there panting.
Katsuki starts loudly cursing, little explosions sparkling in the air around them. Eijirou wheezes and laughs, only stopping occasionally to suck in some air. Katsuki looks over at his scrunched up, giggling face and can’t help but join in. Their laughter fills the room. Eijirou hopes every day is like this.
