at the local precinct
It’s been a long day for Phoenix Wright. He has just gotten into a new murder case regarding the murder of Crow Sant, a baker who was brutally shoved into a bread slicer. Phoenix had gone to the precinct to pester Gumshoe into revealing more information. The lawyer really needed that info because he had to face Edgeworth in court tomorrow..
After getting enough hints out of the poor detective (which took approximately two whole minutes to make him speak) and talking to his defendant, Mada Leine, the newly hired coworker of the place who had unfortunately been found guilty because she had to work that day, was finally able to go home and go rest.
“Ugh- you’ve got to be kidding me..” Phoenix thought as he walked outside underneath the rooftop of the building. It was raining cats and dogs outside, after like- two whole weeks of sunshine! Ofcourse he didn’t bring an umbrella with him that day! Just great.. what does he do now?
Phoenix was pondering if he would would get less wet if he ran as fast as he could, when he suddenly saw a certain prosecutor walking a couple of feet near him.
“Oh, Edgeworth. Didn’t know you were here today”
‘Well, I have to prepare for a case tomorrow, as you know. Of course I’m going to be at the precinct’
He looked as grumpy as always- classic Edgeworth, crossing his arms and tapping with one of his fingers on his arm, glaring at the other (Though, the glare was kinda cute-) “NO, stop thinking Phoenix!”
“Hah- okay, stupid question, I know”, the lawyer said, rubbing the back of his neck with a sheepishly grin on his face.
“By the way, have you forgotten your umbrella too today?”, Wright almost can’t believe it. The over prepared for everything-prosecutor forgot such a simple thing?
‘I haven’t exactly forgotten it,’ the other man sighed, ‘but it looks like someone has taken mine whilst I was questioning a witness’ he said, suspiciously glaring at the other man.
“Hey!- I wasn’t the one who took it! Otherwise I wouldn’t be standing here either!”
‘I didn’t say anything’
“That look did though!”
And just like that, they started bickering again. A classic debate of a defence attorney and a prosecutor over the stupidest things imaginable (acting as if they don’t enjoy it). It was almost 8 pm when one of them finally checked the time.
‘Hm.. It’s getting really late, Wright. We should probably go home now.’
“But it’s still raining so much.”
‘I know, but I certainly need to get home on time for some.. important business’
“Is this about the new steel samurai special episode?”
‘Ngh! How did you?!-‘
“Maya might be in Kurain village right now, but that doesn’t stop her from talking my ear off about it on the phone”
‘I- uh- well, the important part here is that I need to find a way to get to the parking lot as soon as possible.’ Edgeworth retorted, turning his head away. Although Wright can still see the blush that rose off on his cheeks.
The defence attorney genuinely wanted this moment to last forever. Just him and Edgeworth, bickering and chatting and just being able to be themselves around each other, without a murder case between them.
Still, he knew the other man didn’t want to miss something that was so special to him, so he thought for about 3 whole seconds and got a very impulsive idea.
“You know what? Fuck it all, let’s just go home!” Phoenix grabbed the prosecutor wrist and ran straight into the rain. It was cold and wet, yet he felt as warm and joyful as ever.
‘Wright!- what the hell do you think your doing?!’ Miles yelled at him, shocked at the sudden movement.
“I’m not letting you stand here forever, Edgeworth” he smiled, dazzling as bright as the sun (that wasn’t there at the moment).
It felt like they were nine years old again, running hand in hand through the woods and into the flower fields, what Miles wouldn’t do to get to experience those moments again.
But ofcourse Phoenix had to be his unlucky self (or lucky, he doesn’t really know) and tripped over a large rock on the ground and plummeted right on his back, letting Edgeworth fall with him. They ended up on top of each other in the pouring rain.
“Agh!- what the heck?! Oh, I’m going to sue that rock immediately! Edgeworth, let’s switch places. I’m going to be the prosecutor from now on and put this filthy thing in jail!” Phoenix protested. His deep blue eyes sparkling in the rain as he spoke, his suit completely soaked and his spiky hair al over the place.
Miles just couldn’t contain himself and laughed. Even though Phoenix had become a lawyer, saving people’s lives, he still was the same vivid kid from third grade.
‘Pfff- I could definitely see you cross-examine a rock, Wright’, Edgeworth gushed between breaths of laughter.
They both laughed while Edgeworth put a strand of the Phoenix’s hair back in place, slightly brushing his hand against the man’s cheek. They both stared at each other for a moment- only a couple of inches apart- before Edgeworth got up, looking slightly flustered.
‘We probably should get going though. Nevertheless, I suppose it wouldn’t be fair of me to leave you here having to bike all the way back home, so you can come with me if you want. Besides, it would be best to dry your clothes at my place, we both know you lack the common sense to do that, right?’ He smirked as they got in the flashy red car.
“That was like- one time! How was I supposed to know I was drying them on Celsius instead of Fahrenheit?!”
‘You literally wore detective gumshoe’s giant scruffy old coat in court.’
“Better than just a plain old t-shirt right? But yeah, It was a very big coat..”
‘Indeed, I remember. You looked like an oversized baby arguing about a serious murder case. It was kind of cute..’
Wait- did Phoenix just hear that right? Edgeworth thought he looked.. cute?
‘Brute! It was very brute of you to wear something so unprofessional in court!’ The other man stammered, trying to look like his menacing self (not that it worked though). Phoenix just smirked at the failed attempt of concealing his little mistake and looked out of the window, trying his hardest to make his own face not blush extremely hard.
After a while, they shortly arrived at Edgeworth’s place.
It was a nice house in a suburb area. He probably payed this with the money that von Karma or his father left when they died, but Phoenix was smart enough to not ask about that right now.
‘I have some clothes for you here. Just go to the bathroom- the right door underneath the stairs- to change. I’ll be in my room’, Edgeworth handed the clothes to Phoenix and left to get his own.
The clothes felt very soft and smelled like lavender and vanilla. It was a simple black t-shirt with a pair of burgundy sweatpants. Phoenix quickly changed out of his wet suit while being extremely glad he didn’t need to wear one of those weird cravats. The clothes were very cozy and fitted just right. Maybe he should go to Edgeworth’s place more often..
After giving his soaked attire to the other man- who was also now wearing more relaxed clothes- they both went to sit on the expensive crimson couch.
Just then, Phoenix saw an adorable little fluff ball come up to them.
“Wait- you have a dog?!”
‘Her name is Pess, she’s a bright little one, alright.’ Edgeworth smiled, clearly happy to see her again after such a longday.
“That’s so cool! Who’s a good girl, huh?” Phoenix exclaimed while petting the little pup.
Pess started to lick Phoenix’s nose when he picked her up.
‘I think she likes you.’
“Hah- yeah, I’ve always been an animal person, you know? I was maybe thinking about adopting a cat pretty soon”
‘Oh, really?’
“It’s been a bit lonely without Maya or Pearls around sometimes, plus I’ve been eyeing this brown cat at the animal shelter for quite while now.
..she reminds me a lot of Mia, very calm and friendly, so I wanted to have her by my side, like she was by my side when I needed her the most..”
‘Thats.. wonderful Wright..’, Miles smiled, ‘I’ll have to visit sometime to meet her.’
“That would be great”, Phoenix laughed brightly back.
“So~ what’s so special about this new episode, huh?” The attorney finally asked.
‘It’s the final episode of the trilogy of the series’, Edgeworth explained, ‘we will finally get to learn if the steel samurai is prepared to reveal his whole identity to the world just to save the evil magistrate’
He went on about the whole redemption arc of the evil magistrate, who apparently had a tragic backstory that forced him into poverty, he had to steal and fight just to survive. And even though he was brute and cold, they got glimpses of the man actually having a kind heart, robbing the big companies to give money to the people who really needed it. The steel samurai was the only one who could save him.
Phoenix thought Miles looked adorable, talking so passionately about this kid’s show.
The clock strikes 9 o’clock when the prosecutor quickly turned the tv on.
Wright did have to admit, it was actually really good. The episode was an hour long -three times longer than normal- and it featured very emotional scenes. After a lot of pleading and shouting and big samurai kicks, the hero finally took off his mask, saving all of Neo old Tokio and giving the evil magistrate a chance of fully becoming a better person. Even Phoenix felt a couple of tears forming in his eyes when the credits rolled.
He wanted to ask what Edgeworth thought about it, when he suddenly felt a soft weight on his shoulder and saw that his friend had fallen asleep. He looked so calm and peaceful there, as if all of his problems were washed away. The lawyer smiled at the sight and turned the tv off, also dosing of into the night.
September 18th, ????
????
Phoenix slowly opened his eyes. He could see he’s not in his bedroom, but he couldn’t clearly remember where he exactly was. The early morning sunlight peaked through the windows, making the white and black walls with the golden crests more visible. The attorney’s laying down flat on a soft sofa when he feels something on his chest.
“Huh.. huh? huh?? huh??? Huh????”
‘Hmpf-..shut up, Wright. S’til to early’ Edgeworth (who was still half asleep) murmured, burying his head deeper into the man’s chest.
Phoenix felt his cheeks burn up. Why is the Miles Edgeworth up against his chest like that?? Is he being used as some sort of human heater or something?! Edgeworth hugged him a little tighter as he mumbled something about an updated autopsy report. He was probably too tired to think about the situation they were both in right now, otherwise the man would’ve moved away already (Not that Phoenix wanted him to move away anytime soon). He looked so dreamy right now, with his closed eyes and slightly ruffled hair, hugging Wright as if he would fly away into space.
He just couldn’t help himself but to glisten his fingers through the other’s hair. It felt so soft and fluffy that Phoenix could just melt away.
After suddenly realising what he was doing, Wright quickly pulled his hand away.
‘Mh-no.. don’t stop..’
“.. do you want me to keep going?”
‘Please..’
Wright resumed what he was doing by scratching the man’s head again. He could hear him soughing in approval as his shoulders untensed.
‘I love you, Phoenix’
“OKAY SOMETHING’S WRONG” Phoenix thought. Ofcourse he always wanted to hear that from the man he has been in love with for years, but he never expected to actually hear it!
But before he could say anything back, he heard light snoring against his chest. Damn it.
September 18th 7:46am
Edgeworth’s place
Phoenix opened his eyes for the second time that day. It was a lot brighter outside then the first time. He could hear the birds singing outside while the morning sun flashed into his eyes.
“..was all of that a dream?” Phoenix thought to himself. He still remembers the way Edgeworth was laying against his chest, saying he loved him.. Phoenix felt slightly disappointed at the fact that everything might of been in his head, when he suddenly saw a couple of silver hair strands on his hand and on his black t-shirt.
“Gotcha, Miles! Can’t gaslight me into thinking it never happend”
‘Oh- you’re awake. It was about time you finally did’, the prosecutor said, already in his signature burgundy attire, ‘I made sure your suit is completely dry, so you’ll be good for today’
Phoenix thanked him as he went to put the outfit on, yet he still felt like he needed to know the answer to a lot of questions he (rightfully) had.
“.. did you.. mean it?”
‘That your suit is still perfectly fine for how cheap it is? I don’t believe it either, to be honest.’
“No- that you loved me’
Edgeworth abruptly turned away. His face making a scowling that looked like he wanted to fly away to Europe for forever. He might’ve faked his death again if not for Phoenix’s hopeful shining eyes, staring into his soul. The man kept on gazing at him, until he finally sighed.
‘You know I don’t say unnecessary things, Wright.’
That was enough for Phoenix to completely light up. He went over to the other man and impulsively kissed him right on the mouth.
‘Agh!- I’m not ready for that yet, Phoenix!’ The other man jolted, his face almost as red as his suit.
“Right, right- sorry! I’m just very excited you feel the same way, I guess”, the attorney sheepishly smiled at his- uh.. nevermind.
“..Do you maybe want to go out for dinner after our trial today?”, Wright nervously asked.
Edgeworth smiled (this has to be a record by now): ‘I think I’d like that.’
‘Now, let’s go to court. Luckily I have a spare umbrella we can use’, the man finally stated, grabbing Phoenix’s hand while converting him to his car. Phoenix thought he might die from all of this cuteness.
September 18th, 9:32am
The courthouse
“Heya, pals! Wow, looks like you’ve made it here at exactly the same time!” Gumshoe exclaimed, as eagar as ever.
‘Good morning, detective. Because of some.. irregular circumstances- hey! Is that my umbrella?!’
