Work Text:
hello
making a formal request to see your face and maybe get a kiss. or a hug, if possible
thank you.
sincerely yours,
caelus
Dan Heng squints at the new email in his inbox. It's been a long day of work in the Archives, and honestly he's not sure this is real. He's checked the address three times to make sure it isnt some sort of strange phishing request (despite not even having a link to steal his information from) because Caelus would never send him an email. He'd blow up his phone with texts, or call him, or just break in.
His phone blinks up at him with fifteen unread messages. Ah. Maybe Caelus had texted him first.
Caelus
may this journey lead us starward

Dan Heng leans down to kiss his boyfriend on the forehead. "Request granted."
"Mmmm. I need to make requests more often then."
Caelus's bed is much softer than Dan Heng usually prefers (which is to say, it's soft at all). It's hard for him to sleep like this, but laying together on it feels like heaven when he gets to keep Caelus in his arms. Caelus has spent so much time trying to make it as comfortable as possible that he gets surrounded by pillows and blankets as soon as he lays down.
"You never told me what you were working on," Caelus murmurs into Dan Heng's chest. "Missed you a ton while you were gone."
"We had breakfast together this morning, Caelus."
"Too long," he complaints, and Dan Heng stifles a laugh. It's no secret that the two of them have been far… clingier, he'll say, since Amphoreus. Centuries of separation means it's hard for them to bear being apart for too long right now. He's sure they'll get over it eventually, he's just not sure if he wants to.
"I've been working on updating our logs from Amphoreus recently. Much of what we managed to retrieve from the simulation needs scannng and transcribing, and I managed to get through a sizable portion of the backlog today. For much of the rest, portions are unreadable, and I'll need to either find some form of assistance to translate or exclude the missing sections from the records for the time being. It will take a while, but I appreciate having something to do."
He'd recognized the task for what it was from the start: a request to simply talk. Caelus had most likely missed the sound of his voice, and it's clear that was the case, because he can see his boyfriend nodding off as he speaks. Caelus had joked before that Dan Heng talking about the Data Bank was the easiest way to "knock him out" for a good night of rest, and Dan Heng wouldn't be shocked if a good night had been sorely needed by them all recently.
It brings a smile to his face. What a privilege, to be able to bring another person this much comfort and be comforted in return.
The night is dark and the bed is warm. A long day of straining his eyes against the light of his screen has made him tired. He's happy to drift off right there, and he sleeps through the night with no nightmares.
