    [COMPLETED WORK]

Dazai Osamu cannot die. He’s tried—six times, ten times, a hundred times—until two strange creatures hitch a ride in his subconscious, granting him the power to siphon away human ambition. It’s a trade-off he’s fine with: he eats their grand, dangerous dreams, and in return, they survive.

Safe. Dull. Alive. It’s an airtight method.

Right up until Nakahara Chuuya moves into the apartment next door. Chuuya is a broke, furious artist who paints until his fingers bleed and screams at corrupt politicians in the street. He is also completely, impossibly resistant to Dazai’s dream-eaters.

Driven mad by the one anomaly in his cursed existence, Dazai decides to do it manually: force his way into Chuuya’s life, ruin his stubborn resolve, and force him to settle down. He expects a quick surrender.

He doesn't expect Chuuya to look at a living corpse like Dazai and offer him a seat.

(In which Dazai tries to save a mortal from his own burning heart, only to realize too late that moths are always drawn to the flame.)
