Summary
Sometimes there were these moments where Francesca felt simply overwhelmed. In a couple hundred years, people would use words such as “overstimulation” or “sensory nightmare” to describe such phenomena. Though, in her period of time, Francesca did not have any words or names readily available to describe what she felt. The most fitting word she could use was itch, or perhaps that feeling one gets when they ignore an itch: something that builds under one’s skin, an urge that demands to be satisfied, lest it fester.

With Michaela away on estate matters, Francesca is overwhelmed and needs a break from her duties. When she’s feeling this overstimulated by her usual dresses, Francesca has developed a solution that the people of her time would deem rather unconventional: dress in men’s clothing. It’s more comfortable, it’s freeing, and she can hide away in the castle library for a day until she feels refreshed.
Good thing Michaela isn’t expected to return home for another week. Or is she?
