Chapter Text
The news made Regect feel like drowning.
Ze. Getting married next month.
It shouldn't have been making Regect worried. So why is he worried anyways? Well, Regect has always kept a secret. He likes Ze. He wishes to be with Ze forever. To spend his rejected life being with him. To die together. With Ze.
And it was inevitable. The way Ze seemed... Happy with the new person. Not logging on as often. Always talking about this "love of his life" and other shit Regect didn't want to hear.
It felt like a stab— no, multiple, hundreds, if not thousands of stabs to his heart. As if his stomach was being tied to a knot as his lung collapses, and his throat fails him.
Regect could've just exited out of Ze's PC to the real world. But he didn't. Because what if Ze wasn't there? Or what if Ze didn't want him there? It was painful to think about. Regect hated this all. Hated that it's real and he can't prevent it from happening.
At night in the real world, Regect came to Moe. Vulnerable and fragile, he let out all the pent up emotions that he kept. How it wasn't fair, how he should've done something before this all happened, and other things that blurred from his memory.
It felt like spilling his guts out. But surely Moe wouldn't judge him, right? She wouldn't, of course she wouldn't. She's the sweetest woman Regect knows. And Regect was glad he could rely on Moe.
"I just— I can't believe it too, Moe. I- I'm sorry, I shouldn't be saying stuff like this to you, Moe. You have enough problems and—" Regect started to ramble while golden tears fell out of his now both visible eyes when he was cut off by Moe's worried horn.
"Regect, you don't have to be sorry. Friends support each other, right? Especially best friends! What are you being sorry for?! It's okay, I understand. It's hard to process this. I'm sure it's gonna be okay," Moe signed, holding his shoulders when he tried to look away from what she was signing.
"Nothing's going to be okay, alright?! It's in a month, Moe. A month! I can't do anything but stay silent until eventually he's taken by someone else! Nothing's going to be okay, for God's sake!" Regect panicked, covering his invisible face with his claws as he groaned. "Sorry, Moe. I shouldn't have lashed out at you like that. I'm just... Tired and stressed, okay? I didn't mean it..." Regect apologized.
Moe honked her forgiving horn, before signing "It's okay, I know this is taking a big toll on you. But for the sake of me and Ze, can you try calming down and relax for a second? I'm pretty sure what you need is to stop overthinking it."
Regect sighed as he removed his claws from his invisible face. "Yeah, yeah. I'll... I'll try to. For you. And for Ze. I'll try to calm down." Regect muttered hesitantly, as if he's doubting what had slipped off his tongue. Moe, being the observant type of person, honked her angry horn at him.
"Regect! Just trust in me, okay? You have me! There's nothing to be worried about. You need to stop thinking about it! It's not good for you! I don't want your mental health to decline!" Moe scolded, giving Regect time to think about it.
Regect's tears kept flowing. He was pretty sure Moe's bed was stained with gold tears by now from how much he'd been crying. The thing is, Regect is trying his best to not think about it. But it just keeps getting back to him. It's a shadow in his mind that refuses to dissapear.
"Look, Moe. I'm trying my best, I am. But it won't go away. It won't let me even sleep, for fuck's sake! It drains me, makes me tired everyday. Even though I'm an entity that barely needs sleep, it drains me so badly, Moe. Everything just.. Hurts. I keep trying to sleep but I can't, which it makes me more restless. I'm trying my best, Moe. I really am. But I can't, I can't." Regect choked out. The tears that were starting to decrease rushed out again, this time twice the amount.
Moe, understanding his situation better now, decided not to speak and instead moved closer to pat his back. Regect, knees pulled close to his chest, face hidden, tail curling behind him, didn't react. Not yet. He still needed time. He still needed a bit more comfort to actually stop the tears from flowing like a broken dam. Everything in his life has been going down like a river. And he hates it. He hates this all. He hates what he's doing.
Eventually, Moe went to search for something in her drawer. "What— What're you s-searching, Moe?" Regect asked, stuttering slightly while sniffling. Moe only honked her reassurance horn. Dang, did she have tons of different horns for different answers. Both Regect and Ze doesn't know how she fits them all in her pocket. They don't want to question it anyways, they all have their own little quirks.
As Moe kept digging through piles and piles of circus entertainment tools, she finally found it as her eyes lit up and she grabbed what she was finding for like it was made of glass. Or, you could say, fine china. She kept holding onto it for a few moments without moving, as if she was amazed she had even found it.
Well, Regect was curious. And if you know him well, he's always impatient. So he tried standing up and take a look, but Moe scrambled to keep him seated. Now, he's sitting on her bed. Not at the floor anymore. "It's a surprise!" Moe signed. Regect rolled his eyes but still waited as she moved around for other stuff that he wanted to see what it was, but didn't bother to.
Instead, Regect decided to finally take in Moe's room. Circus tools here and there. Books on the shelves along with her trinkets. A bisexual pride flag on the wall (Moe's canonically bi guys don't attack me), and a few picture frames. Two with pictures, and one empty. Regect remembered those pictures.
The first one was the trio in front of their old house, the one Ze destroyed after being stuck in that hell hole in the ground. Regect remembered when he was the one to bandage up Ze's wounds on his hand. At that moment, it also gave Regect the opportunity to admire Ze's arm. Thank god his face was invisible fully at the moment, so Ze didn't see him admiring his scars.
And oh, seeing Ze's arm like that? So open and muscular? It made Regect drool and think about stuff. And none of them were innocent. 'He must be darrrrnnn big..' Regect thought when he tried to focus on bandaging the wounds on Ze's hands. 'I wonder if he'd fit in me...' Regect shook his head to get rid of that thought. Oh, that made him turned on.
The second picture was when the trio went camping. Moe took the photo with the most deadpan look when peeking out of her tent to see Regect staring at Ze's tent.
Wait... Moe found him doing that?!
Apparently, what Regect didn't know, was Moe found him outside. In the middle of the dead night. 'Gosh, just confess already you homosexual.' Moe thought before climbing into bed.
Regect in that moment, was just making sure Ze was asleep. Because he didn't need someone telling him he was being loud. Loud doing what, you ask? Ragebaiting little kids on Roblox, because he's an unemployed sad ass unc.
The third picture frame was empty for some reason. But he didn't care enough to ask why. He was just waiting for Moe to finish what she's doing. He didn't even notice she's now sitting on her chair doing something on her desk with what she found.
Regect lay flat on Moe's bed, staring into nothing in particular. Maybe staring into the abyss nobody else could see. Maybe he's hallucinating something intruiging. Nonetheless, he's actually just bored. He has the attention span of fruit flies, the animal with the shortest attention span recorded.
As he stared, and stared, and stared....
HONK!!
That made Regect startled. He jumped and immediately calmed down, muttering a few 'sorry's while Moe giggled to herself. She had something behind her back. Something she didn't show yet. "Come on, Moe. Just tell me what that is."
Moe honked and slowly revealed what she's been hiding this whole entire time.
A... Flower bouquet?
Regect, confused, looked at Moe with a questioning look. Moe signed "Look closer, idiot!"
Regect walked closer and realized...
It wasn't just flowers.
The flowers were in fact, pipe cleaner flowers. A few bedazzled for some reason, usual Moe. But not just those, it was filled with other stuff.
Trinkets.
Lots and lots of trinkets.
From blue and white, to black and gold. And Regect immediately caught onto what those were representing. Ze and Regect. With a simple plastic gold ring in the middle. Regect's eyes went wide and he looked away as he blushed. A yellowish golden tint appearing on where his face would be. Noticing both of his eyes were visible, he immediately hid them.
But too late. Moe already saw it and started honking her excited horn. Signing rapidly over and over, "Come on! It's the best gift I've ever made for you!" But it was too hard to understand what she was signing as her hands moved faster than a plane's jet engine.
"Wha— Moe!! Not faaaaaaaiiiiiirrrr...!" Regect whined, hiding his already invisible face. Moe just laughed and kept honking her horn.
And so the mood was temporarily lifted. Yet only for today, it was better than seeing him cry all day, every day. Moe thought.
