   Summary

   In the aftermath of her elder sister's funeral, Alyssa Velaryon witnesses an event that will forever shape her loyalties. When her brother is murdered in their halls, rumors of who was behind it only fuel her rage. Sent to Dragonstone to broker for her niece's fostering, the impossible happens. Anger bubbles over, a dragon that matches her own fury is claimed, and the young woman takes her future into her own hands upon crash landing just outside of Oldtown.

   Ormund Hightower offers her a deal. A chance to live beyond of what is expected by her family, allowing her to practice her faith without the questions or crude comments, and to keep her standing within society as the wife of a well established lord. In return, she will give him heirs and her dragon's might when the time comes to back his cousin's son's claim to the throne. When she makes her own demands, his interest is piqued.

   What neither expects is for their own schemes and manipulations of one another to align, for their own goals and desires to be suprisingly similar, and for others outside of themselves to reap unexpected benefits.
