Scene 17, Speckled Paint

Summary:

Optimus points out that Bee’s paint is speckled.

Bumblebee connects the dots.

Notes:

Yes I'm aware that actual sun damaged paint on cars is ugly but ignore it for the plot okay?

Suspension of belief and all that.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Optimus stared at Bumblebee’s plating in the light, it was shiny and beautiful.

Something in particular caught his optics though.

“Your paint is speckled.”

Bee turned to him confused.

“It is?”

“Yes, it is.”

He stepped closer to inspect it.

“Are you feeling alright?”

“I feel fine.”

Bee tilted his helm in thought, wondering why his paint might look this way.

He didn't feel ill; if anything, he felt great from how much he had been out cruising and racing under the sun on Earth.

He remembered immediately, Sunstreaker and other bots had complained about it before.

“The sun!”

“The sun?”

Bee nodded as he inspected his own plating.

“Sunstreaker mentioned it, Earth's sun damaged his paint job after too long under it.”

He tapped his arm plate.

“Guess it damaged mine too.”

He stared at the tiny sun-bleached mark on his plating.

Optimus hummed.

“As long as you are not ill or injured.”

Bee nodded in response, tilting his helm in thought before speaking again.

“Hand me a marker.”

Optimus grabbed a water marker near him, something easy to wash off.

Bee took it, popped off the cap, and started marking his plating.

“See!”

He showed off his arm to Optimus.

“They're constellations”

Optimus gently took his arm and looked over it.

Bee had connected various spots with lines to make Earth's constellations.

One constellation caught his optic in particular, as it was the largest one Bee connected.

“Orion?”

He asked.

Bee nodded.

“Only makes sense for the one who discovered the stars on me to get the biggest spot.”

He grinned.

Optimus.

No.

Orion smiled gently back.
