Work Text:
You were hiding a secret. you haven't told anyone about it. However it was part of your identity. a part of who you were. you were sick and tired of being called the wrong gender especially by someone you considered to be your best friend, Ryuzaki, or L. But would anyone even understand or believe you?
like usual, you and L were working late on the Kira case while everyone was asleep in their rooms. After some time had passed you went for it. "I'm a boy." looking at L, bracing for impact, for something to go wrong only for L to not look at all surprised or even looking away from the computer screen said "I suspected as much.", your eyes widen but to be fair. this was L you were talking to.
"what do you mean?" You questioned anyway. raising a eyebrow and tilting your head. He said slightly jokingly "I'm a detective, I know everything.:" you chuckle before saying "yeah, I guess you're right." resting his thumb on his lip. "the real reason is, I have been observing you, It becomes really obvious once you pay attention." You laugh awkwardly causing L to turn to you and give you a reassuring smile. "I fully support you." You smile still really nervous, scratching your arm. L went back to his usual frown. probably because you seemed to be still really nervous. You were not sure if L was lying or not.
L decides this time to continue facing you, you really need his support right now. "Now what is your name?" You grin, your doubts automatically washing away. so you say your chosen name excitedly. He couldn't help but smile again. "Cool name, It suits you." he tilts his head slightly, putting more sugar in his coffee, you wonder why he has yet to die of diabetes. After taking a sip of his sugar coffee, his smile fades as if remembering something.
"Be very careful telling this to people, especially with these Kiras running around, you never know what biases they may have." L said with seriousness. "I have been studying this type of thing for a while now, while I am not trans myself, I understand why someone might be, there's no reason to be against it and if anyone here gives you a hard time, they are fired." You chuckle. He once again smiles then turns to his usual expression "You are free to express yourself but please be careful, I don't want anything bad to happen to you."
