Work Text:
Some of the Crowley-Fell’s favorite evenings passed in their home, hosting all manner of friends for whatever reason.
Tonight was a particular favorite- a game night, attended by young Adam, Joshua, and Warlock, as well as Anathema and Newt from the university, then Nina and Maggie, fellow Whickber Street shopkeepers Asa had come to know while working with Derek. Everyone was remarkably competitive, and it always led to a wonderful evening.
Anathema always over exaggerated her movements during charades, though Nina and Maggie seemed able to read each other’s minds. The younger men cackled as they bested Anthony in yet another game of monopoly, adding another mark on a running list of wins and losses (Adam- 14, Warlock- 3, Joshua, 7, Asa- 2, Anthony, 0). Poor Newt hardly stood a chance when Asa whipped out a stack of cryptic crosswords and an egg timer, earning him a sympathetic kiss on the cheek from Anathema. Pictionary left Warlock a winner, a chocolate-iced biscuit his envied reward.
As the night wore on, bottle upon bottle of liquor was drained, making the final game, Uno, a rather spectacular drunken affair.
Asa sat far too primly and far too upright in his squashy armchair, Anthony bent and curled around him in a way that would hurt his knees tomorrow but offered the best view of their shared hand of cards tonight.
Cards piled up, dramatic fingers pointing and mouths laughing and pouting and forming up accusatory shouts as Joshua shyly laid down another “Draw 4” card and Adam collapsed dramatically, refusing to collect the sixteen cards the rules insisted he claim. Maggie clung to Nina’s arm, shouting “Uno! Uno!” despite their own hand having five cards remaining, confusing Newt and delighting Anathema to no end.
Was it any wonder game night was their favorite?
