Work Text:
Dean's heart shatters into pieces as he screams his husband's name, watching him fall to the ground, dead.
Dean cries as he falls to his knees next to his mate, placing his hands on Cas's beautiful face.
"I love you so much, Cas. I'm never gonna stop," he vows through the tears, leaning down to peck his once-alive Angel's lips, which are not as warm as they usually are.
Dean cries for the life he wanted to live with Cas, the life they were starting to build together.
They finally got married on top of their mating, which happened right before all of the Mark of Cain shit.
But now Cas is dead, and Dean's happily ever after has died with him.
Dean doesn't want to be on this Earth anymore if his Angel isn't here.
As Dean cries for the life he lost, he hears loud crying that sounds like it's coming from a baby inside the lake house...fuck!
The Nephilim!
Dean looks at his husband once more before rising to his feet and following the sounds of the baby's cries.
The baby is calling out to him.
Dean finally makes it upstairs, where Kelly lies dead on the bed.
Dean's heart breaks for her because she never got to meet her child.
Then Dean's eyes lock onto the little bundle of joy at the foot of the bed, whose limbs are flailing everywhere and who's screaming out for someone to hear him.
Dean's Omega yells to him, "That's our pup! Our baby! Protect him with your life!"
So Dean runs for the tiny little blonde baby who's calling out for him, lifting him into his arms, cradling him, bouncing him slightly, cooing to him. "It's okay, baby boy, it's okay."
The baby's cries eventually, finally slow down.
Dean can't help but smile tearfully at the baby.
"Yeah, you're okay. You're okay."
Dean then looks all around the walls that Kelly painted, seeing that the name Jack is painted on the wall as well.
Dean looks down at the newborn. "Hi, Jack. I'm your Mama, Dean. And the beautiful woman who gave birth to you is Kelly, your Mom, who sadly can't be here for you, but I will. I promise."
Dean means it with all of his heart.
"A-And you also have an angel always watching over you."
Jack makes a cute baby sound.
Dean grins, kissing Jack's forehead. "Yeah, that's right, baby. His name is Cas, and he's your Daddy, but he can't be here for you either. That's why I'm here, Jack. To be here for you forever."
Jack coos adorably, then he starts crying again, Dean bouncing him and kissing all over his little face to help calm him down.
"Dean, what are you doing?" Sam calls, walking into the room.
Dean looks up at his baby brother. "Hey, Sammy."
Sam walks closer, seeing Dean hold the Nephilim in his arms. "What are you doing with him, Dean?"
"I'm taking care of him, Sammy. Poor guy wouldn't stop crying. But he's doing okay now that I've got him."
Sam's brows furrow as he stares at his brother and the baby in disbelief.
He's never seen Dean like this—super protective over a baby.
"Dean, why are you protecting him?"
"Because he just needs someone, Sammy. All of the people he had are gone. I'm all he's got."
Sam takes another step closer. "But Dean, h-he's a—"
Dean nods. "I know, Sam. But he's just a baby! He's an innocent little life that can't harm anyone. He's my baby, and I'm going to raise him to be good and to help people."
Sam sighs, a soft smile appearing on his face, then he sees Kelly lying on the bed, sadness pinging at his heart.
"Okay, Dean," Sam agrees with a nod. He can't bear to take away Dean's happiness right now because Cas is dead and Mom is in the Bad Place with freaking Lucifer.
Jack is all that Dean's got right now—besides Sam, but that's a given.
The brothers make their way downstairs, Dean having to continuously sway Jack in his arms to try and calm the newborn.
Dean knows that Jack is probably hungry, cold, and tired.
Dean's ready to sleep too, if he's being honest.
But he needs to run to a store and buy some basic baby stuff for Jack—clothes, formula, bottles, diapers, and baby wipes.
Dean takes Jack outside and walks with him to Baby, grabbing a spare jacket to lay the baby on and wrap him up in while he goes to the store to purchase the things Jack needs.
Sam said he'll still be at the lake house when Dean gets back, so Dean did what he needed to do to help his little baby boy.
People look at him strangely as he shops around, but he pays them no mind and gets what Jack needs, kissing the newborn over and over to keep him calm so he doesn't cry and annoy people.
After Dean purchases nearly $70 worth of baby stuff for Jack, also using some of the baby supplies he found in the lake house Kelly had bought for Jack, Dean places everything in the back floorboards of Baby, climbing into the back seat with Jack, putting a diaper on him, then putting him in a cute little blue onesie that reads: My little angel.
Dean couldn't resist buying it, okay?
Then, once Jack is all comfortable in his outfit, Dean makes a bottle of formula—he remembers images of having to do it for Sammy way back when, his maternal instincts kicking in.
Jack drinks that bottle down like he wasn't just born a few hours ago and has been doing it forever.
Dean can't help but chuckle in amusement, watching his baby feed.
After Jack drinks down the bottle, Dean places one of the cheap towels he just bought over his shoulder and very delicately burps the newborn as he slides out of the backseat of Baby, leaning back against her as he holds his little angel, Jack now sleeping against his chest, head resting on his shoulder.
Dean places the baby on his jacket in the front seat next to him as he drives back to Sammy.
He'll have to do some research and order a good-quality baby seat from Amazon or somewhere online so Jack can ride safely in the Impala if Dean needs to drive somewhere.
Once they're back at the lake house, Dean carries Jack in his arms to see where Sammy is and, oh, he's standing over Cas's body.
Cas is laid out on the dining table with a sheet covering his entire body.
Sam is praying over him.
Dean instantly tears up, causing Jack to squirm in his arms.
Dean kisses Jack's face and gently sways him in his arms. "Shh, it's okay, baby. Mama's here."
The sun is rising, and Dean knows that he and Sammy need to burn Cas's and Kelly's bodies, then make their way back home to the bunker.
Jack needs some good sleep anyway in a real bed instead of in Dean's arms.
"Sammy," Dean calls, catching his brother's attention. "Can I talk to him?"
Sam nods and walks over to Dean, taking Jack into his arms.
"Now, Jack, this is your giant uncle Sammy. He may be big, but he's harmless," Dean tells his baby boy, kissing his little head before walking over to his dead mate's body.
Sam takes Jack outside to give Dean complete privacy, talking to the little newborn about things he definitely doesn't understand to put him to sleep.
As Sam steps outside, Dean walks over to his husband and pulls the sheet back, tears immediately falling from his eyes and streaming down his cheeks.
"H-Hey, baby," Dean greets through tears, sniffling. "I, uh, miss you like crazy already, and I don't want to live my life without you, but I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I found a reason to stay." Dean takes a breath, cupping Cas's face in his hands, stroking the dead angel's cheeks with his thumbs. "I'm going to raise Jack to be a really good kid. I'm gonna help him with his angel powers and show him how to use them for good. It's what you and Kelly would want and what I want for him. I love him so much already. And I love you too, angel. So fucking much," Dean says through sobs. "Life ain't gonna be the same without you, but I'll figure it out. We'll see each other again, Angel. I know that for damn sure. And I know you'll be watching over us. I love you, Castiel, more than you'll ever know."
Dean then leans down to kiss Cas's forehead, looking at his husband for a moment, wipes the tears off his face, slides Cas's wedding ring off his finger—Dean actually had it made from an old part of Baby that he had to replace—then slides it on his ring finger on his right hand, and finally Dean covers his mate back up with the sheet, tying parts of the curtain around his body for the hunter burial.
Dean isn't ready to say goodbye, but he has to because there's no way Cas can come back from this.
He'll always carry his angel in his heart and on his fingers with their rings—Cas had the ring made for Dean and somehow put his grace in it, so a part of him is always with Dean.
Dean loves his husband and mate so much.
When Dean steps outside, he finds Sam sitting against the hood of Baby, blabbing softly about something, Jack passed out asleep in his arms.
Dean feels a smile spread across his face at the sight.
Sam is helping Jack sleep by talking about some nerdy shit.
Sam stops when he sees Dean approaching, his brows raising in question. "You good?"
Dean shrugs. "I don't know if I ever will be good again. But I'm okay."
Sam nods, standing up, stepping towards Dean, and then hands him Jack.
"Is it time?" Sam asks as Dean takes the baby Nephilim.
Dean nods, softly bouncing a sleeping Jack in his arms. "Yeah. It's time."
Sam nods curtly, then heads into the house to grab Kelly's body from upstairs because she's light enough for just Sam to carry her, but not Cas; they'll have to both carry him.
When Dean walks around the lake house, he notices that Sam has wood piled up in the way the two have become too familiar with, made for two bodies, on the side yard.
Dean wraps his baby up in his jacket again and places the newborn on the front seat of Baby once Sam has placed Kelly's wrapped-up body on the woodpile; then, once Cas is placed next to her, he picks Jack up out of the car, turning the baby's head away so he doesn't see what is happening.
He's definitely going to keep Jack out of the hunter life until he's much older and has complete control over his Nephilim powers—whatever they'll look like.
Dean doesn't care what they are; he's always going to love Jack, no matter what. He can feel that in his partially restored heart.
Sam hands Dean the lighter, Dean holding Jack against his hip with one arm, then he lights it, and tosses it into the wood pile after Sam covered it with lighter fluid, making sure Jack doesn't see this.
"Love you, Castiel," Dean whispers to himself as he watches the love of his life's body turn into a pile of ashes.
Once the fire is out, Sam and Dean make their way back to the bunker, Sam driving Baby, Dean sitting next to him with baby Jack in his arms.
When they arrive back at the bunker, Dean feeds Jack before he carries Jack with him to his room to pass right out to sleep, flashing Sammy a tired smile along the way.
Over the next few weeks, Dean researches and purchases things so he can take care of his pup and give him everything he needs.
Dean buys more clothes, more diapers, a car seat, and a baby carrier so he can walk around with Jack attached to his chest so he can always have Jack close while he gets things done around the bunker.
Dean bought Jack a bassinet so he can have something comfortable for him to sleep in.
He also got a baby monitor so he can always make sure Jack is okay when he gets some things done around the bunker—when he doesn't carry Jack around with him—sprinting as fast as he can to his bedroom to comfort a crying Jack when his cries come through the baby monitor.
Dean has even started to set up a room for Jack.
It's the room right across the hall from Dean's since Sammy took one further down the hallway—plus Dean wants to keep his pup close at all times.
Dean completely empties that bedroom and then paints the room a pretty pale blue color, nailing down carpet on the floor so it's more comfortable for the baby boy once he starts crawling and walking.
Dean is currently feeding little Jack lunch in his bedroom, sitting on his twin bed, an old Western playing on his laptop that rests at the foot of the bed.
That's when Sam walks in carrying his computer in his hands.
"I found us a case," Sam says.
Dean looks up at his little brother. "I'm done hunting Sammy. For a long time. I've got more important things to worry about: my son."
Sam's mouth falls open, speechless, clearing his throat before saying, "O-Okay..."
"It's too dangerous to take him on hunts, and I can't just leave him here! So I stay here with him, Sammy. But you have to call to check in," Dean explains.
Sam nods, shutting his computer. "I can do that."
Dean grins, setting the now empty milk bottle on his nightstand, burping baby Jack over his shoulder. "Good. And make sure to call if you ever need help with research and lore and all that crap."
Sam snorts out a little laugh, turning to make his way out of Dean's room. "Done. See you in a few days, Dean."
"See ya, Sammy! Be safe!"
"I will, jerk!"
"You better, bitch!" Then Dean looks down at Jack as Sam's footsteps fade away. "Don't repeat that word, baby....At least until you're in high school, okay?"
Jack coos adorably, letting out a little burp.
Dean grins, kissing his baby's head, letting Jack fall asleep against him, relaxing against the headboard, watching the movie on his laptop, making sure the volume is low so it doesn't wake his little Angel from his slumber.
Dean stays in bed until the movie is over, then he lays his pup in his bassinet so he can get some good sleep while Dean does some laundry as well as work on some more of Jack's room.
Today Dean is building Jack's dresser and changing table, putting in a recliner Dean bought for cheap that he can use to rock Jack to sleep and to feed him.
The room still looks pretty bare, but it's a start.
Dean is slowly building his little Angel a space to call his own.
*****
Sam comes back to the bunker five days later, feeling tired and sore from the hunt, looking around the bunker to figure out where his brother is.
He does hear Jack's laugh from afar and follows the sound, ending up in the bedroom across from Dean's room.
"Hey, Dean!" Sam greets, walking into what is now Jack's room, met with the sight of Dean sitting on the carpet with one-month-old Jack sitting in his lap, giggling at the faces Dean is making at him.
Dean tilts his head up and beams at Sam. "Heya, Sammy! Glad you're home safe. Miss us?"
Sam snorts and rolls his eyes. "Sure. Whatever you need to tell yourself."
Dean picks up Jack so Sam has a good view of him. "Are you sure you didn't miss this adorable little face?"
Sam chuckles, bending down to say hello to baby Jack. "Well, of course I missed him."
Jack coos, letting Uncle Sam hold him for a moment before he's ready to be held by Mama again.
"I'm, uh, gonna make us dinner, Dean, after I take a two-hour nap."
Dean nods. "Better not be that healthy crap you love so much."
Sam rolls his eyes, rising back to his feet. "Don't worry, I have my protein noodles, and you have your regular noodles."
Dean sighs in relief. "Thank God."
Sam shakes his head at his ridiculous older brother and heads out of Jack's bedroom.
Even though Jack is just a little baby and can't do much, Dean always loves to make him smile and laugh, and keep him happy.
Jack deserves happiness and all things good in the world.
Jack gets pretty tired after all of that laughing and giggling, so Dean puts him to bed and puts up some fun, colorful posters he thrifted—yes, he has learned what that is through his research for good baby supplies—to make the room seem a little less empty.
Once those are up, Dean hangs a sign that he made with wood, wood letters, paint, and wood glue that reads: Jack's Cave.
Dean found a spare room that he's making his Dean Cave, where he can drink and watch movies on a flat-screen TV—it's still a work in progress because Dean has been spending his money on his son because Jack is more important.
Dean is hammering the sign onto the door when he hears Jack's cries through the baby monitor that's clipped to a belt loop on his jeans.
Dean instantly sets the hammer down and rushes inside his room to take care of Jack, who needs a diaper change asap.
Dean changes Jack in Jack's room on his changing table, then he cradles the little Nephilim in his arms as he makes sure the sign on Jack's door is straight, tapping in two small nails on the bottom corners so the sign doesn't move when the door swings open and closed.
Dean feels so happy with how his pup's room is set up and filled with color so it'll feel like a warm, happy, safe place to Jack.
Dean looks at his work and smiles, wondering what Cas would have to say about it, his eyes misting over at the thought of his Angel who can't be here with them.
Jack starts squirming and squealing when Dean starts crying.
"Shh, baby, shh, it's okay. I'm okay," Dean soothes, pressing kiss after kiss into Jack's blonde hair—what little there is anyway.
Jack calms down after a little while, staring up at Dean with wide, curious eyes.
"I'm okay, baby. Just thinking about your Daddy, Cas, and how I wish he was here with us."
Jack makes an adorable babbling sound, his eyes feeling heavy, falling asleep against his Mama's comfy chest.
Dean smiles, his heart feeling full with the immense love he has for his baby boy—parts of it are still shattered because Cas is gone, but having Jack helps a lot.
Dean wanders around the bunker, gently swaying the newborn in his arms, eventually ending up outside for some fresh air, his brain lighting up with an idea when he sees a flat patch of grass near the main door.
A secure and safe place for Jack to run around and play.
So Dean builds yet another thing for his baby to enjoy while also being safe in a fenced-in yard where Dean puts up a porch swing, where he can swing for fun or rock Jack if he's crying or sleepy.
The bunker is really starting to feel like home now because it has given Dean more than enough space to make this place home for his little pup.
Dean's so glad he quit hunting. He just wishes Cas were here too.
*****
Dean is putting up the fence gate for Jack's little play area in the yard today.
Dean officially started on this project ten days ago, a day after Sammy left to help Jody and Donna with a few cases.
Sam calls Dean every day to check in and get updates because even though Dean doesn't hunt anymore, he still likes to hear what's going down.
Plus, he's been getting to chat with Jody and Donna; he's missed them a lot.
They also really want to meet Jack someday.
Dean definitely can't say no to that.
Dean has nearly three-month-old Jack laid out in a playpen he purchased last week in the middle of the fenced-in yard as he installs the gate so Jack can remain close and Dean can make sure he's safe.
Dean is a little—okay, more than a little—overprotective of his son.
As he should be because of the fucked up world and all of the fucked up people and monsters out there.
There have been too many people Dean has lost; he refuses to lose his son too.
Jack is ready for some milk once Dean has successfully installed the fence gate.
*****
Jack is five months old now and is such a bright and happy baby.
Dean has been loving the stay-at-home mom life...except lately his chest has been aching profusely.
Dean has no clue why the fuck his chest is hurting, but he pushes through and focuses on his little angel.
A week later, Dean's nipples start leaking milk...
Dean quickly realizes what's going on and why his chest was hurting so much and why he literally has breasts now.
His body is allowing him to feed his pup.
So Dean never has to buy baby formula again.
Which is great because it'll save Dean money—not that it matters too much because of Charlie's practically unlimited credit cards.
She was the best.
Dean misses his little sister so very much, as well as his husband, who he tells little Jack stories about every day, so at least he can know his Daddy...he'll just never meet him.
Sammy continues doing hunts, always calling Dean with updates, and occasionally asking for some lore from the books at the bunker library.
Sam and Dean are still working as a team; Dean just helps from afar while he takes care of his son, keeping him safe, and making sure he knows that he's always going to be loved.
Dean is loving his new lifestyle.
*****
Dean is currently feeding six-month-old Jack from the new outdoor porch swing Dean just installed last week.
Dean is slowly rocking back and forth while Jack feeds from his breasts.
Jack has the most adorable face because he has such chubby cheeks with the cutest smile, bright blue eyes, and curly dirty blonde hair.
Jack has put on more weight this past month now that he's feeding from Dean multiple times a day instead of the formula.
Not to mention Dean has put on some weight—as well as larger breasts from how much Jack feeds and how much milk is in them—from not hunting anymore, softening at the hips, having a little pouch on his belly, and having a slightly thicker face.
Dean at first didn't know how to feel about his new look, but he's grown to love it because he's no longer constantly drinking beer—he stopped as soon as he realized he was lactating—starving himself from not eating on hunts for days, and he's not so fucking exhausted all the time.
He's finally allowing himself to rest and eat whatever he wants—to a point because of the diet he's started so his breastmilk remains nutritious for Jack—letting his guard down a little, and just enjoying Mom life for a long while...even if Cas isn't here to enjoy it with him.
He misses his angel more and more every day.
But talking about him to Jack always helps, even if it makes him sad and causes him to cry. He's happy he's keeping his Angel's legacy alive.
Dean has also learned that Jack has this, like, sixth sense for detecting emotions. It's probably the Nephilim in him or something.
When Dean is crying, Jack screams and cries for him, like he's begging Dean to stop.
There have been no signs of Angel powers or anything, but he's only seven months old; he's still just an infant.
Though these past seven months have gone by so quickly, Dean's pup is growing up so fast.
Which is why Dean is even happier about quitting hunting, so he can be here for everything with his little angel.
*****
When Jack is nine months old, he starts showing signs of his Nephilim powers.
Like whenever he is having a crying fit, his eyes light up a golden color, and the lights start flickering.
And when he's really happy, the lights flicker like crazy.
It's so cute too because Jack always goes wide-eyed when he sees the lights flickering, and it never fails to make Dean laugh and smile.
Dean loves his little angel like crazy.
He really wishes Castiel was here to watch their pup grow up, but unfortunately, it won't happen.
Cas is dead, gone forever.
Tears well up in Dean's eyes.
Then Jack starts to cry out loudly, limbs flailing everywhere.
Dean quickly wipes his eyes and lifts Jack from his crib, kissing all over his face to calm him down.
"Shh, Jack. It's okay. Mama's okay. I promise. I just miss your Daddy is all."
Jack eventually calms down, tightly fisting Dean's shirt in his tiny hands as Dean carries Jack to his bedroom, to his bed where he's made a nest, a safe place for Jack to be and where Dean can protect him.
Dean will do anything he can to keep his little angel safe; he's not losing anyone else important in his life. He refuses to.
*****
By the time Jack is ten months old, he starts making a lot of babbling sounds, but no actual words have been formed yet.
Dean finds it absolutely adorable, though, and can't get enough.
His little angel is so freaking smart.
Dean is currently playing with him outside in the little fenced-in yard, making Jack smile and giggle as they play around.
Eventually, Jack gets hungry and starts making grabby hands in the direction of Dean's breasts.
Dean laughs as he lifts Jack into his arms, lifting his shirt up enough for Jack, letting the pup latch on and get his fill.
Dean eventually gets up to sit on the porch swing while Jack finishes feeding.
Once Jack is full and Dean has pulled his shirt back down over his breasts, he holds Jack close to him, kissing his wild blonde hair.
"I really wish your Daddy was here; he'd love you just as much as I do," Dean says solemnly. "You've lost so much already." Kelly. "And deserve the world, baby. Cas would definitely be able to give you that better than me."
"Cas!" Jack babbles with a big grin, his eyes lighting up gold.
Dean gasps, happy tears immediately filling his eyes, kissing Jack all over his adorable face. "Yeah, that's right, little angel. That's your Daddy."
Jack giggles, looking up at Dean preciously.
"You're so smart," Dean coos, kissing Jack's chubby cheeks. "I love you so much."
Jack makes some adorable blabbing sounds when Dean does that, letting his Mama shower him with love and kisses.
Dean still can't believe that Jack said his first word.
His baby is growing up so fast.
*****
Castiel doesn't know how he got here because the first thing he knew was that he was talking to the Empty, who looked like Meg, oddly enough, and then he was cast out because the Empty wanted to sleep.
So now he is looking for a pay phone to call Dean.
He missed his husband dearly, and he hopes Dean is okay.
He doesn't know what he'd do without his hunter.
*****
Dean is playing with Jack in his playpen in the Dean Cave when his phone rings in the distance...he left it in the kitchen...but he's too busy with his son to go get it.
If it's important enough, they'll call again.
They don't, so Dean doesn't think about it again and focuses back on Jack.
As Dean is doing tummy time with Jack, Sam runs into the room, leaning against the doorway, his eyes wide.
"Dean, I have to go out."
Dean looks up at his baby brother. "Okay. Need me for anything or...?"
Sam shakes his head. "I'll be back in like two hours. I got to run an errand and pick up something."
Dean nods. "Drive safe, Sammy."
"Will do."
Then Sam's gone, running to the garage.
Dean chuckles and shakes his head at his ridiculous little brother.
Sammy is so weird.
But that's his Sammy.
*****
Dean is putting Jack down in his crib for a nap when Sam comes back, because Dean hears footsteps echoing through the bunker after he exits Jack's room with the baby monitor in his hand.
Dean heads into his own bedroom so he can do some laundry and take a quick shower while Jack is napping, but as he's about to go do that, there's a knock at his door.
Sammy must need him for something.
"Come in," Dean calls, but not too loudly so Jack doesn't hear it from across the hall and wake up from his nap.
Dean is putting his dirty laundry in the laundry basket from his hamper when his door opens, an all-too-familiar scent filling his nose that he hasn't smelled in so long, causing him to drop the basket in his hands and quickly turn around.
"Hello, Dean," his husband greets, standing in the doorway of their room, looking the same as he did ten months ago...since he died.
"Cas," Dean exhales, taking a step forward, looking at the Alpha with wide eyes. "Is that really you?"
Castiel nods, looking down at himself for a moment before looking back up at his Omega. "Yeah, Dean, it's me."
Tears quickly well up in Dean's eyes as he runs forward and throws his arms around Cas for a tight embrace.
"I missed you so much, Angel."
Castiel quickly hugs him back. "I missed you too, my beloved, so much."
Dean cries happy tears in the crook of his mate's neck, inhaling his scent. "I thought I'd never see you again, Cas."
"I know. But I'm here, and I'm not leaving you again, I promise."
Dean pulls away, his hands holding the lapels of Castiel's trench coat. "You better not. I barely handled it now, and I know damn well I cannot do it again."
Castiel smiles, getting a good look at his mate, noticing that he looks different.
His face is more filled out and he looks so much softer...plus Cas doesn't remember Dean having noticeable boobs.
Plus Dean's scent has changed; he has a milk scent to his normal smell.
Cas's brows furrow as he tilts his head to the side curiously.
"Dean, you're...different."
The Omega blushes. "Y-Yeah... I, uh, don't hunt anymore."
Cas is taken aback. "How come?"
Dean chuckles, leading Cas out of his bedroom and to Jack's room across the hall. "Why don't I show you?" He says with a smile. "But we have to be quiet."
Cas nods, unsure of what's going on, but then he sees a sign on the door of the room they're about to enter that reads Jack's Cave.
Dean took Jack in and has been raising him. That's why he looks like a mother.
Castiel can't help the smile that comes on his face or the tears that well up in his eyes.
Then Dean opens the door, leading Castiel to a crib in what is clearly a nursery Dean built for him.
Castiel has the best mate in existence.
Castiel's heart swells when he sees the infant sleeping in his crib.
"He's perfect," Cas whispers.
Dean kisses his cheek. "He is, but he needs rest. You can see him later; he'll be very happy to finally meet you. I talk about you a lot to him."
"Really?" The angel asks when they leave Jack's room and head back into Dean's—their—room.
It's their room again because Cas is alive.
Dean nods with a light chuckle. "Yeah, Angel. Your name, Cas, was his first word."
"Has he shown signs of powers?" Cas quickly asks.
"Some. His eyes glow, and lights flicker," Dean replies, slightly confused. "Why do you ask?"
"Because I think it's what woke me up and then pissed off an entity so much they sent me back to Earth."
Dean gasps. "Y-You mean Jack helped bring you back to me?"
Cas nods. "Yes, beloved."
Dean tears up. "This is the best day of my life."
Castiel chuckles, closing the distance between them to join their lips for a kiss, their arms quickly wrapping around each other to keep the other close.
"Hmmm," Dean moans against the angel's mouth as they make out.
As Cas is leading him to their bed, Dean pulls away with a gasp.
"Hang on, baby, I have something I need to give to you," Dean rasps, sliding Castiel's wedding ring off his right hand.
Cas sees what it is that Dean has and holds up his left hand.
"I grabbed it off of your body be...before we burned your body so I could keep it and eventually give it to Jack, but it's yours for a little while longer."
Cas chuckles as Dean slides it back on his ring finger, then he pulls Dean into the bed with him to make love to him after so much time apart.
*****
After the two of them took a quick shower and got dressed, after their round of mind-blowing sex, Dean decided it was time to wake Jack from his nap, Cas following right behind him to finally meet their son.
Dean wakes up Jack from his slumber, kissing all over his baby's face, making him giggle as Dean carries him to the changing table to change it diaper before handing him off to Cas.
Once Jack is all changed and in a cute blue onesie, Dean walks over to his husband and passes his son over to him, telling Jack, "Baby, look, it's Daddy."
Jack's blue eyes bulge out at the sight of Cas, his eyes turning gold, the ceiling lights flickering.
Dean chuckles, placing a hand on Jack's head. "I know, baby, it's so exciting. Daddy's here.
Jack reaches up for Castiel's face, touching his cheeks with his soft, tiny baby hands, making Cas cry a few happy tears.
"Hi, Jack, I'm sorry that I haven't been here with you, but I'm here now, and I'm not going anywhere."
Jack babbles excitedly at that, clapping his hands, cheering, "Mama!"
Dean gasps, his eyes misting over, leaning down to kiss Jack's forehead. "I'm right here, baby."
Cas's brows furrow. "Is that the first time he's said that?"
Dean nods with a sniffle. "Yeah, it is. He only said your name a week ago."
"Wow. He's so smart."
Dean smiles, tears in his emerald eyes. "Yeah, he is. He's ours; how could he be anything but perfect?"
Cas smiles at his hunter, cradling their pup against his chest. "I love you, Dean."
Dean rests his head on Cas's shoulder, looking down at their son.
"I love you too, Angel. So much. And I love you, our little angel."
Jack makes an adorable cooing sound, looking up at his parents fondly.
