Long Awaited Arrival

Summary:

You’d been pregnant for what felt like forever by now, and it’s finally time to bring the newest Morningstar into the world, much to everyone’s exuberance.

Work Text:

Lucifer held firm to his promise of treating you like a queen during your pregnancy. Morning sickness? He was there to hold your hair and soothe you until you were done, and carried you back to bed to rest after helping you clean up. Aches and pains? He knew exactly where to rub or massage, and had you in a puddle in a matter of minutes no matter how bad it had felt a few seconds ago. Cravings? He had no qualms about rushing out to cook for you in the middle of the night or fly to another ring to grab any kind of food he wished (Satan still wasn’t happy with him waking him and his girlfriend up in the middle of the night for her mouth watering sinnamon rolls). Mood swings? He knew exactly what to say or do to comfort you and soothe you, no matter what state you had worked yourself up into beforehand.

He slowly slid his hand down to your swollen stomach, smiling when he felt a little kick against his hand.

“Shhh, don’t wake your mommy.” He whispered softly.

“Too late…” You grumbled, and Lucifer hoisted himself up so he could see your adorably grumpy face.

“Sorry.” He said, not sorry at all (actually maybe a little bit), and gently rubbed your belly. “How long have you been awake?”

“A while.” You admitted, wiggling slightly as you rolled onto your back. “I can’t get comfy.” You whined quietly.

Lucifer clucked his tongue, looking thoughtful for a second before he perked up.

“Do you want my sweater?”

You nodded, and wordlessly stuck your arms up.

He chuckled, and after summoning the sweater from where it was laying over the back of a chair, he gently tugged the fluffy duck-printed sweater over your head. Your eyes fluttered slightly as you buried your face in the soft fabric, eyes closing as the strong scent of apples and woodsmoke filled your nose.

“Better?” He asked.

“Mhm.” You nodded, and yawned as a pang of sleep seemed to hit you.

You dozed off peacefully after that, at least for another hour or so, before you grumpily woke up again and started to fidget around. Now it was to another round of kicking that Lucifer was (this time) not responsible for. It had you curling up in a little ball and whining, although you were fairly quick to feel Lucifer’s wings wrap around you for added comfort.

“She’s kicking a lot today, isn’t she?” Lucifer said softly, sympathetically rubbing your stomach in a soothing way.

You were having a bet on what you were having. Lucifer wanted another girl so bad, but you were betting it was a boy just out of spite.

“Yeah, he is.” You mumbled, smiling slightly as Lucifer poked his tongue out, though he frowned when you winced again and clenched your claws into his.

It had started yesterday afternoon, but you had been getting more and more uncomfortable as the hours ticked on. The baby kept kicking, your aches were getting harder to soothe, and every so often you felt a twinge that felt really uncomfortable, bordering on pain. And it was only getting worse and more frequent.

Lucifer cocked his head at you thoughtfully, then his eyes widened.

“Do you think it’s time?” He asked, his tail waggling like a puppy dog’s.

You pursed your lips, then after a moment’s thought shook your head.

“I don’t think so. I mean I’m uncomfortable, but I’ve had days like this in the past. It’s probably nothing.” You waved off, then struggled to carefully sit up. “I’m not going to be sleeping anytime soon… Let’s try to start the day.” You sighed.

You spent most of the day walking around, waddling around more like, which Lucifer found insanely cute, checking in on things and helping where you could. Lucifer was never too far behind, although he was mindful to give you at least a little bit of space (you had quite literally hissed at him once for not giving you enough when you hit a bad mood swing, and he had never run from a room so fast in his life. Even he knew it was bad to piss off a hormonal pregnant lady). Thankfully, your day, despite having little twinges of pain and discomfort, seemed to be going well enough.

You were just taking a little breather by the door to the kitchen, watching Lucifer have a bit of a back and forth with Alastor, when a really sharp stab of pain hit you really low in the gut just as your baby gave a really hard kick. You felt your heart start to race as instinct told you exactly what that meant.

“Lu. It’s time.”

Both Alastor and Lucifer turned their heads, and you saw both of them stiffen when they saw you hanging onto the wall for support as you struggled to keep your legs under you.

“Time?” He blinked, and then he practically jolted with excitement as he processed. “Oh it’s time! Finally!” He laughed, and literally swooped you into his arms, summoning a portal with a flourish as he half-turned to Alastor. “Bambi! Go tell Charlie and Vaggie to meet us at the hospital! I need to get her there now!”

Alastor, for once, didn’t try to argue or ragebait him in any way (although you did note a slight annoyed look at the nickname), and gave a curt nod before he slunk off through his shadows to do just that. Lucifer then rushed you through the portal and into the hospital.

Needless to say, the King of Hell rushing through the hospital with his very pregnant wife got more than a few eyes. It also got you into a room immediately, which you were grateful for, since you were in so much pain you were seriously at risk of spitting a fireball at someone.

Lucifer, for his part, was practically vibrating with excitement, although it was hampered by seeing you in so much pain as you got ready to deliver.

He squeezed your hand tightly as you fought through more contractions, sympathy in his eyes as he tried to help coax you through the final stretch.

“Come on, sweetheart, just a little bit more. You’re so close!” He encouraged.

You whined, pressing your head back against the pillow.

He leaned in and nuzzled close to your ear.

“I know you can do this. I believe in you.” He murmured. “Just one more push. I know it hurts, but you just need to make one more.”

You grit your teeth and sunk your claws into the bed (and his hand), and gave out one last push before you collapsed back into the bed, completely exhausted. Your reward for all your hard work was the sound of a shrill cry and a gurgle, and Lucifer practically smothering your face with kisses.

“You did it! You did it, I’m so proud of you.” He murmured, pressing close to you for a moment before his head snapped up at the approach of a nurse.

The nurse smiled, a baphomet by the looks of it, and gestured to the little one she had in her arms.

“Congratulations, your highness. It’s a boy.”

“A boy?” Lucifer’s wide eyes tracked the little blanketed bundle as it was lowered into your arms, little tears threatening to overflow.

You let out a breathy laugh. “I win.”

“We both win.” He leaned over, and cooed at the little one that immediately tried reaching up towards his face.

Your son looked so much like Lucifer, it was almost unfair, and yet you wouldn’t have changed a thing about it. Sunshine blonde hair, apple-splotched cheeks… Hopefully the horns nubbing the top of his head were yours, since he also had Lu’s adorable little hoofed feet that were already tangling up in the blanket.

“Look at him…” You breathed, lightly touching his face.

“I know.” Lucifer beamed hugely as his eyes fluttered open, showing the breathtaking baby blues he had.

“Dad?” Lucifer’s head whipped up at the sound of Charlie’s voice, and grinned hugely at her and Vaggie bouncing eagerly in the doorway.

Lucifer’s eyes softened, and he beckoned them inside.

“Come meet your little brother.”

Charlie zipped inside and right up to the bed (everyone else who had been waiting with her filed in a lot more calmer and quieter), her hand covering her mouth as she finally laid eyes on her new brother.

“He’s so adorable, oh dad!”

“Congratulations, you two.” Vaggie smiled as she perched on the edge of the bed, cocking her head to glance at him as he let out a coo at seeing Charlie. “What’s his name?”

“Elias.” You smiled. “Little Elias.”

Lucifer nodded eagerly, and then his expression turned more gentle as he met your eyes.

“Can I…?” He asked sheepishly, and made grabby motions with his hands.

You giggled. “You don’t need to ask.” You murmured, and lightly passed Elias over to Lucifer, who was almost immediately leaned in on by Vaggie and Charlie both, as well as Angel and Vaggie’s former exorcist friend.

You found yourself almost immediately on edge after Elias left your arms, but you quickly soothed yourself as you sunk back against the pillows, watching as your son got very well acquainted with part of his extended family. Even Alastor spared a slightly interested glance at the newborn as he peered over the tops of everyone’s heads.

You glanced over at Shadow, the only truly calm soul in that whole room, and caught her eye.

“I can’t believe that you did that twice.”

She chuckled, and shook her head mirthfully before she flashed you a soft smile.

“Wasn’t it worth it, though?”

You glanced over at Lucifer, who was holding Elias like he was the most precious thing in the entire universe, and you had no doubt in that moment that he was. He looked like he was close to tears, and Charlie wasn’t that far off.

You smiled gently.

“Completely worth it.”
