Little Light

Summary:

One would think that raising a baby with royal blood would be with a bit more decorum… Yeah, not with these goofballs.

Work Text:

“Come on, Elias.” Lucifer cooed. “Say daddy! Come on!”

“Lucifer.” You chided playfully. “He’ll talk when he’s ready. Besides, what if he wants to say Mama?” You giggled as Lucifer shot you a look.

“No, it’s going to be daddy!” Lucifer declared, and leaned back over Elias sitting on the lobby’s carpet.

“Come on, say Daddy for daddy, pretty please.” Lucifer cooed.

You laughed, mirthfully shaking your head as Charlie chimed in and started mimicking words for him to try saying. To be fair, you heard encouragement like this was something that could help him speak, since Elias was getting close to uttering his first words based off the gurgles and noises he had been making more lately.

“Come on, Elias, you can do it.” Charlie encouraged, clapping her hands to get his attention.

“Charlie, he’ll talk when he’s ready.” Vaggie leaned over the back of the couch, smiling as Elias seemed to perk up at her voice being added to the mix.

You opened your mouth to agree with Vaggie, but you stopped when an adorably little focused look crossed Elias’s face, and he started making an honest attempt at what you thought was a word.

“Mmm.” He huffed out a breath.

Lucifer sucked in a breath.

“That’s it, you can do it!”

“Come on Elias!”

Elias turned his eyes towards Charlie, and flashed a really big smile.
“Sis!”

Charlie let out a happy shriek and immediately scooped him up in her arms, over the moon as Elias started giggling and cooing. Meanwhile, Lucifer clutched at his chest dramatically and flopped onto the floor, halfway between disappointed and a blubbering emotional mess.

“So close!” He whined.

You just laughed. “Not close at all!”

“Shush! Lemme be dramatic!”

“Fine fine.” You mused, and then lowered yourself to the floor so you could lightly ruffle Elias’s floppy hair. “Good job Elias.”

He flashed you the biggest, brightest smile that made your heart nearly stop.

Lucifer grinned brightly as Elias started giggling, reaching up to grab at the starry sky he was flying through.

“Aw, you like that?” He laughed as Elias cooed, and dug one little hand tighter into his shirt while the other tried grappling the wind.

Lucifer loved taking Elias out on flights. He loved showing him the world from up high, and it really let both of them have some bonding time away from the usual chaos in the hotel. And Hell in general. Elias loved every second of it, especially when they went at night.

Lucifer braced himself as he approached one of the open balconies and carefully landed, keeping Elias tucked safely in his arms. Elias made a sad noise as they headed back inside, and pouted up at him.

“Oh don’t give me that look. It’s getting late, mister. We gotta get you to bed.” He lightly tickled his sides, which drew little giggles out of him and erased the little pout on his face.

However, Lucifer noticed that Elias grew quiet again, and he had a little look of concentration on face that made Lucifer stop mid-stride.

What is he…?

Lucifer went completely stiff and his jaw dropped as Elias sneezed, and out popped a little pair of feathered wings. The feathers were downy and fluffy, but the colors underneath looked a lot like the fiery wings you manifested whenever you got really fired up, golden and orange and fiery reds with a few splotches of pearly whites…

As young as he was, Elias had already shown his little demon traits. Whenever he got angry or grumpy, his tail and horns popped out, but Lucifer had never seen the wings before. He hadn’t even thought his more angelic blood might pop out in his kids, since Charlie had never shown anything like that.

“Fly!” Elias piped up.

Excitement raced through Lucifer’s veins as he hugged him tightly, wings wrapped around him tightly as he practically danced in place, before he zipped downstairs as fast as his wings could carry him towards the suite you all stayed in.

You nearly jumped out of your seat as Lucifer burst into your bedroom in a mess of feathers.

“Honey look!” Lucifer cheered, holding Elias out to you with a huge grin. “Look look!”

It only took a second to notice the feathery additions to your son’s back, and your jaw dropped.

“Are those my…?”

“Yup!” He beamed, practically bouncing. “I can’t wait to teach him how to fly!”

The momentary awe was overcome by nerves as Lucifer yammered on and on about how he couldn’t wait to throw your precious baby into the air like he was a natural born duck. Sure, you had grown to love flying with Lucifer, a pastime you knew your son enjoyed just as much, but you were still a nervous flier. The idea of your son, your baby boy, being so high up in the air…

You’d never tell Lucifer no, not when Elias brought him so much joy and you knew he’d never put him in a situation where he’d be liable to get hurt, but…

“Just promise me one thing.” You said, after he paused to take in a breath.

“Sure sure.” He nodded eagerly, lightly rocking your son in an effort to calm both of them down. “Name it.”

“Promise me you’ll teach him over something soft.”

Lucifer blinked. “Why?”

“In case he falls.”

Lucifer’s expression softened as he finally picked up on your worry, and wrapped a wing around you. “Oh honey, I won’t let him fall. I promise.”

“Are you sure?” You quirked a brow. “You fell twice before.”

“Twice?” He blinked. He remembered the first fall vividly, but twice?

“Mhm.” You smiled, and leaned into him. “You fell for me.”

Lucifer’s confused look melted into a soft, loving look, and he leaned in to press a series of sugary sweet kisses along your cheek and lips.

Lucifer hummed as he tread through the hallways of the hotel, intent on making a nice cup of hot cocoa and curling up in bed with his sketchpad over doing anything more productive.

That was before you snagged his hand as you rounded the corner, and immediately put your finger to his lips to shush him.

“Shhh.”

“What?” He whispered quietly, eyes wide as you gently withdrew your finger (after he gifted it a cheeky parting kiss) away from his mouth.

You smiled. “Come on, and remember, hold in the urge to squeal, okay?

He nodded, really curious now, but he followed you as you started leading him down the stairs and towards the main floor of the hotel, and then towards the little hallway off the main one that normally led to the conference, utility, and office spaces.

Vaggie waved at them as they passed, and smiled before she tended to the next guest. But now as they neared where Charlie’s office was, Lucifer could see the door was cracked open, and he could even hear something coming from inside…

Inside Charlie’s office, Charlie and a teenage Elias were dancing around the room like little kids, singing along with each other to their heart’s content. Spontaneous music numbers weren’t uncommon among the hotel, especially with Charlie, but Elias had started developing the habit of singing along with her whenever she started, and Charlie always turned it into a duet for them.

“I’m grateful you’re my brother/sister more than anything~”

“More than anything~”

Lucifer felt his eyes sting at the corners as he lightly pulled away, heavily resisting the urge to go in there and squeeze both of them in as tight a hug as they could take.

You leaned over and kissed his cheeks when you noticed, and lightly stepped away with him so you didn’t interrupt the two currently ramping up another song.

“Are you okay?” You murmured.

He nodded. “I was just… I’m so relieved that they’re so close…” He admitted, and he leaned into you as he hugged you tightly. “I’m so happy they love each other so much.”

You smiled and squeezed him back.

“Me too.”

You silently shifted further into the couch, and silently opened your bleary eyes as you tried to properly wake up from your little snooze.

You had fallen asleep on the couch in the lobby, which wasn’t too out of the ordinary even now, your sketchpad somewhere on your lap and various pencils scattered around you. Except now, you fought the urge to smile as you watched Elias silently scoop up your pencils and pad and set them off on a nearby table gently, mindful of not making too much noise. He snagged a blanket off the adjacent couch and turned back towards you, only to freeze up like a deer in the headlights when he noticed you looking at him.

He turned a bit pink and flashed you an apologetic look, sheepishly pulling back.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“You didn’t.” You stretched lengthwise along the couch before relaxing. “How long was I asleep?”

“About an hour.” He shrugged slightly. “I was going to carry you back to your room, but I didn’t want to risk waking you up.”

You cocked your head at him, smiling as you really looked at him. Elias reminded you so much of Lucifer, and you were glad he took after him so much. The world needed more people like him in it, even if it didn’t realize it yet…

Elias cocked his head at you and blinked.

“What?”

“Nothing, just…” You shook your head gently. “You remind me so much of your father.”

“How?”

“You have his heart.” You smiled, and reached out to cup his cheek. Elias gently leaned into it, and rested his hand on top of yours. “Never lose it.”

“I won’t.” He murmured.

“Promise?”

“I promise, mom.”

An hour or so later, Lucifer headed down the staircase of the hotel on his way to the lobby to get you for dinner, but stopped short as he got a clear view into the lobby from the stairs.

You were asleep on the couch, your favorite spot, wrapped up in a soft blanket, and Elias was curled up on the floor next to you, leaning against the couch near your waist, snoring away quietly.

Lucifer felt his heart skip several beats in his chest, and felt the warmest he had felt in… Ever.

He loved you both so much, and he was so glad he got a second chance with you.
