Out of the Closet

Summary:

Elias has something important to tell the both of you. It’s a surprise, but you and Lucifer take to it like a duck to water, and come out of it stronger than before.

Work Text:

Lucifer nuzzled his way further into your chest, making you laugh softly and giggle as he started pressing kisses against your shirt. He flashed you a grin, and playfully nipped at the fabric with a suggestive look on his face. You leaned down, pressing a kiss to his lips as he started lightly nudging you back against your bed.

Before you could really go any further, thankfully before you tugged on his horns to get him really fired up, there was a knock on your door that had you both stiffening up. Lucifer broke the kiss and glanced up, a mix of annoyance and curiosity.

“Mom? Dad? Can I come in…?”

“Elias?” You called out, sitting up as you and Lucifer immediately struggled to look more relaxed and not like you were just about ready to jump each other’s bones. “Uh, sure honey, come in.”

Elias slipped inside, ducking a little bit to avoid his horns and wings from bumping into the doorframe. Even with how difficult it was sometimes to walk out with all of his demon traits out, risking knocking something over with a wing or getting his tail stuck in a door, Elias always seemed to prefer being like that, and really you were fine with anything that made him comfortable…

And you could already tell he was not completely comfortable, that he was nervous. His tail was twitching up a storm, and that immediately sent your motherly protective instincts into overdrive.

“What’s wrong?” You asked immediately.

Elias shook his head reassuringly. “Nothing’s wrong! I mean, I-I don't think anything is wrong, I just…” His shoulders slumped slightly. “I just… I have something I need to talk to both of you about.”

Lucifer and you were immediately at attention, not that you weren’t before, and Lucifer patted the bed.

“Come here.” He said.

Elias slowly slunk forwards, and sat himself down between both of you on the bed. Lucifer put a hand on his shoulder, and you took his hand in your own to give it a squeeze.

“You know you can talk to your father and I about anything.”

Lucifer nodded. “Yeah. You can talk to us. No matter what, we’re here for you.”

Elias nodded, flashing you both a faint smile before he sighed, and straightened slightly, though he kept his eyes focused on his lap.

“Sometimes, I… I don’t really feel like I’m really a guy.” He said quietly. “Sometimes I feel more like a girl, and other times, not really anything at all. It’s just… It’s confusing, but I… I don’t know if I’m explaining this right.” He sighed, frustrated.

To say the confession caught both of you by surprise wouldn’t be that far off, and Lucifer and you both shared a look over Elias’s bowed head. The phrasing he used… It was a bit scrambled, but anyone who was starting to figure themselves out wasn’t likely to know all the right words. Thankfully, you actually did kind of understand what he was hinting at feeling, and you squeezed his hand.

“Are you trying to tell us that you’re genderfluid?”

“Genderfluid?” He asked, and Lucifer blinked as he slowly started putting the pieces together.

You nodded. “Genderfluid is… Your concept of what gender you identify with shifts over time. You might feel like a guy for a few months, and then you might feel more like a girl, only to go back to feeling like a guy. Or maybe you don’t feel like either and just feel more neutral.” You smiled. “It’s not common, but it’s not strange either. There’s no reason for you to feel nervous or ashamed about it.”

“I’m not ashamed, though.” Elias said, seemingly a bit more relaxed now. “I’m just… Confused on how to hold myself sometimes, I guess.”

You cocked your head thoughtfully, and after a moment gave his hand another little squeeze.

“Do you want us to call you something different? When you’re feeling more feminine? Or when you’re feeling more neutral?” You suggested.

Lucifer nodded in agreement, but Elias smiled a little and shook his head.
“Not really… I mean, pronouns and stuff don’t really matter that much to me. He, she, they, eh… I don’t really care that much. Either way, I’m still me…”

You smiled. “As long as you’re sure. We want you to feel comfortable.”

“Yeah.” Lucifer nodded. “And hey, I can teach you a few shapeshifting tricks to feel more comfortable in that department.” He offered.

Elias perked up. “Really? You can?”

“Yes he can.” You chuckled. “As long as you don’t explain too much, love.”

Lucifer flushed bright gold as you flashed him a look, and smiled with a cheeky look.

“Riiigghttt.”

Elias chuckled, and spread both his arms over you both and squeezed you tight in a hug.

“Thanks mom and dad.”

“No problem, honey.”
“Yeah, you know we love you kiddo.”

Elias started adjusting to being more fluid with his gender. After Lucifer taught him how to shapeshift, he started making it more of a normal thing to swap between a male and female form on a whim, though he tended to stick more with being a man. You were just glad your son had a way to feel comfortable in his own skin, since you knew a lot of other people in his place didn’t have magic to make themselves feel at ease…

Of course, being Lucifer’s son, he wasn’t going to let his new shapeshifting skills pass without having a little fun with them…

Alastor hummed slightly as he meandered into the kitchen, intent on grabbing another cup of coffee before truly starting the day. He was very seldom the only one around the kitchen at the hour, so he wasn’t too surprised to find another sinner in the kitchen.

“Excuse me, my dear.” He smiled, with all the polite charm his mother had taught him to use at the tall blonde-haired woman that was at the counter.

However, when the woman turned around, beaming at him, Alastor choked on his breath so hard he nearly felt like he died again.

“Elias!?!” He sputtered, radio static screeching through his words.

Elias merely continued to smile at him, and leaned back against the countertop in a way that subtly showed off his more feminine form at the moment.

“Actually, I prefer Ellie like this. More feminine to match.”

Alastor blinked, then blinked again as he tried to verbalize something to say, to wrap his old head around what was in front of him at the moment.

At that moment, Shadow, his darling wife, walked in, and she casually flashed Elias - Ellie - a smile as she reached for her mug and a kettle to start boiling water for her tea in.
“Ah, hello Ellie. Feeling more feminine today?” She asked.

Ellie grinned. “Yup! How do I look?” She asked, gesturing to herself.

“Drop dead gorgeous.” Shadow cooed.
“Aw, thanks auntie.”

“Am I the only one who doesn’t find this the least bit normal?!” Alastor asked, feeling like his brain was properly malfunctioning as he seemed to be the only one who was shocked by any of this.

Shadow flashed him a soft, wry look. “We’re in Hell, dear, nothing is normal down here.”

Alastor bit down the usual retort on the tip of his tongue and bucked up, forcing a look of regained composure on his person as he looked at Elias- Ellie.

He cleared his throat. “You look lovely, Ellie.” He complimented, and promptly disappeared through the nearest shadows to escape the awkward situation as far behind him as he could.

Elias smiled, and waited about three seconds until Alastor disappeared from the room, before Lucifer nearly fell to the floor laughing from where he had been leaning against the wall outside the doorway.

“You cracked Bellhop!” Lucifer wheezed. “Aw fuck, I’ve never seen him lose composure before! He didn’t know what to do!”

Elias giggled, eventually breaking and laughing just as hard as his dad was. It was really funny to see uncle Alastor so confused and out of sorts.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go confuse more people.” He flashed his dad a smirk and sauntered off into the main lobby of the hotel to do just that.

“Go get’em girl.” Lucifer cheered.
