Work Text:

"Seriously, where are you guys taking me?"

Zoey didn't respond, giggling in equal parts excitement and nervousness. Mira took it upon herself to speak, "It's a surprise, Rumi, I promise you'll like it."

"I hope, at least!" Zoey said, earning herself a half-hearted swat from Mira.

Rumi followed their lead without further questions, smiling to herself. She didn't feel nervous to be with them anymore, to let them guide her anywhere, even while blinded by a cloth around her eyes. She knew now, more certainly than ever, no secret could break them. There were only the pleasant kind of secrets—planning surprise dates, or surprising her with a day off when she had been working too long.

She squeezed both their hands intertwined with hers, getting a squeeze back without delay.

Mira paused, bringing Rumi and Zoey to a stop with her. She reached behind Rumi, gently untying the blindfold that covered her eyes. Beside her, Rumi could feel Zoey nearly vibrating from excitement.

The cloth fell away. Rumi blinked quickly, eyes adjusting to the return of light. "This is..."

The Spirit Tree bloomed brighter than ever before, a rainbow of colors glowing in the Honmoon roots. Rumi stepped closer, feeling its energy swoop around her, strengthening their bond. She has visited this clearing so many times in the years since it turned iridescent, just to see how the Honmoon accepted her as she was.

Now, the tree was decorated with soft fairy lights—pastel pink, purple, and blue, the three colors shining across and above their tree. Butterflies buzzed in the meadow, wings shining as they rested atop flowers. In the middle of the clearing was a wide blanket covering the grass, baskets of snacks waiting for them.

It was the perfect setting to spend their 7th anniversary, away from the public and in a place they knew better than anyone ever could.

She turned back to her girlfriends, only to gasp in shock.

Both of them were on their knees, nervous energy vibrating off them. They both extended an arm towards Rumi, and in their palms, the offering of a forever bond—iridescent rings and diamonds, electrifying and beautiful. Rumi couldn't even focus on the intricacies of it, so shocked she was by this turn of events.

"Ryu Rumi—" Mira started.

"Yes!" Rumi shouted before she could even ask. "Yes, yes, yes, a million times—"

She was interrupted by Zoey tackling her into a hug, leaving Mira to catch the rings as they tumbled onto the grass, laughing in ecstacy.

Later, they sprawled on the picnic blanket under the fairy lights, soft chatter fading into a peaceful silence. Rumi closed her eyes as Zoey played with her hair, Mira's hand intertwined with hers. Years ago, she would never have imagined this as her life, merely because she didn't think they'd ever look at the same way once they saw her patterns—but how wrong she was. Not only did they accept her, they wanted her—just the way she was, angry and scared and wanting a little too much. She didn't feel scared anymore, never again.

"I'm glad you said yes, but I did spend several hours on a speech," Mira said, interrupting the peace.

Zoey raised a hand sheepishly. "And maybe a song...?"

Rumi laughed out loud, eyes scrunched up in a smile. Her eyes fell close, and so she didn't see the adoring look her girls gave her. "You didn't have to do that—my heart was yours years ago."
