BANG!
Parrot shoots up with freight, and springs above the covers faster than he can come to the realization that he isn't being attacked.
"Fuuuckkk…"
Parrot lets out a deep sigh of relief as he feels his adrenaline shoot down once he sees a brief bright flash of light outside the window. He tightens the hand clutching his forehead as the nausea from the whiplash crashes into him. Gradually, Parrot feels his senses return to him: he's in Wifies house, lying in their shared bed, safe, snugly, and warm.
It wasn't all that uncommon for Parrot to opt to sleep at Wifies place instead of his own, or vice versa. In fact, ever since Parrot had freed him from the chunkban it's like they've hardly been apart. Not that Parrot minds at all, quite the contrary in fact, he hadn't realized just how acclimated he got to having Wifies around until he was gone. A small pit in his chest forms thinking about it. He wonders if Wifies had missed him just as much; Parrots never been inside a chunkban before, but it doesn't seem like the kind of place he'd like to be trapped in. Cold, desolate, dark… The thought of it sends a brief chill down his spine.
Parrot frowns, he hopes he's been able to provide Wifies the warmth that was ripped away from him in during his time in the chunkban.
Before he can let his thoughts lead him any further another loud bang and the revaluation of a hand gripping his wrist interrupts him. Shit. Wifies. Parrot turns to look at his friend, squinting and rapidly blinking his eyes so his eyes can adjust to the dark.
"Parrot…" Wifies painfully whines with a voice indicating he's been up for longer than what Parrot would like.
The dog-boy nudges his head against Parrots wrists and attempts to dig impossibly deeper into the bed. From what his squinted eyes can see, Wifies has one hand gripping his wrists and the other covering one of his ears. Right — Wifies never did well with thunderstorms. Back before the chunkban, he remembers Wifies sniffing out storms hours before it even showed signs of arrival. But now Parrot could tell a storm was coming before Wifies even opened his mouth to warn him; his ears and nose would twitch uncomfortably, his tail would tuck, and his muscles would stiffen. He never did well with storms. Parrot couldn't blame him, he didn't either. A storm created flight risks, and Parrot did unwell with being restricted to only the ground. Not being able to escape into the skies made his feather stand on edge, just the thought of it makes his wings twitch a little.
Although, at least if he was careful enough, he wouldn't be in any physical pain, the same cannot be said for his friend however. Thunderstorms specifically made Wifies keel over, clutching his head. The thick booms of thunder were too much for a dogs sensitive ears, and Parrot doesn't think they make ear plugs for hybrids.
"Wifies..?" Parrot gently runs his fingers through his hair, "You alright?"
The lack of vision enhances his hearing because he can hear Wifies grit his teeth. Through the bed sheets Parrot hears his muffled voice "The sound is getting to my head.." Though he swiftly follows up with: "It's fine..."
Obviously, it's not fine. Parrot swallows his sigh and bites the inside of his cheek. A strike of lightning allows him see Wifies curled up body twitch underneath the covers. Using his free hand, that being the one Wifies currently isn't gripping so hard Parrot can feel it go numb from the lack of circulation, he opens up his inventory, which briefly flash bangs him. He whips his head in the opposite direction then slowly turns around to the open inventory, squinting his way past the bright light he rummages through for a stained purple bundle filled with ice. Parrot quickly realizes that the only maintained part of his inventory is his hot bar — Shit, I should've at least just dumped everything in a chest before passing out. The random wood, dirt, and mob droppings remind him of the adventure him and Wifies went on yesterday. The two of them returned exhausted, and basically passed out once hitting the bed.
"Sorry if I woke you…" Wifies murmurs, taking Parrot out of his thoughts.
"What? No bro, the loud ass thunder woke me up."
Wifies simply lets out a hum in agreement. Even if Wifies purposefully woke him up, he'd trust it was for a good reason. It's then that Parrot manages to find a small purple bundle filled with stacks of cut up ice blocks—Finally. He takes the bundle out of his inventory with too much delicacy for what it's worth and sets it down on his lap.
"I have the ice" Parrot gently speaks, taking his free hand to comb through his hair again.
"mmm.." Is the response he gets. Parrot then hears his friend slowly shift his body so he's laying on his back. The hand that was gripping his wrist slips away and Parrot has the urge to pick it up and shake the blood circulation back into place but swallows it because his heart drops at the idea of making Wifies feel any sort of guilt, especially while he's in agonizing pain.
Parrot gently sets the cold bundle down onto the dog-boys forehead, and he can imagine the relief that brings him.
Wifies breathes a deep sigh of relief, "Bro, that's feels /so/ nice."
Parrot giggles a bit. "I'm glad, bro."
Parrot then shifts his body downwards, next to Wifies and under the blankets of the bed. The two of them stay like that for awhile— A comfortable silence which makes Parrot smile. He's not sure when Wifies drifts back to sleep, and he's not sure of how much time has passed; but he can tell Wifies isn't in pain anymore by the fact that his pained whining and twitching has stopped. Keeping note of the bundle, Parrot wraps his arm around his torso and lays his head just above his shoulder. The muscle in the head wing he's lying on right now will be numb once he wakes up, but Parrot finds himself uncaring.
The distant boom in the background makes Parrot remember its storming. Thankfully, it only makes Wifies ears twitch. Parrot sighs in content, and feels his eyes get heavier.
—He fights it, its so rare that him and Wifies get to spend time together in such a relaxed state. He wants to cherish it while can.
Parrot hopes that there's a next time for this. A next time where him and his best friend don't have to worry about solving a deadly puzzle, don't have to worry about being separated, of about chunk bans, or anything really.
Parrot succumbs to sleep.
